Looks like it will be a mega thread based on the poll results but don't worry, if we get a lot of participants and it gets too cumbersome, we may split off and then merge later.

I will post the new thread later this week -- don't want to take away from our summer challenge.

I definately like the reminders Shannon - sometimes we all need a little friendly reminder :)

I do like the larger thread, but know that do get cumbersome. I'll be happy with whatever everyone decides.

I'm so excited for this new challenge to start :)

As you can see below I still have the 7.1 logo. I did good during and for sometime after the challenge. But ... summer activities took its toll on my weight loss plans. Thanks to Lisah0711 for posting on the DIS Unplugged boards. Because of that I'm joining the fall event. I would have voted for the 1 large group thread.
 
Its great to see so much interest expressed. Lisah0711 will be posting an official sign up thread soon. In the meantime, everybody is welcom to pop into the summer challenge thread which is in its last week :goodvibes

No problem, mainegal, I've never watched BL either and I've been running the summer challenge! But if you are looking for incentive, accountability and motivation, we are here for you. Or you can just join and report your weight -- you will find we are a pretty flexible group! I hope that you will decide to join us! :goodvibes

I never watched it before this either but I really liked it after I decided to watch it because of this thread. Don't worry it's not discussed much here-- there's a separate thread for the show on the dis boards somewhere. I think. Maybe I could try to lose 15 more pounds- then I could say I lost 40 pounds, that sounds really cool.
 
Just a question...we are starting the challange the Friday before the Show starts? And Running Friday - Friday, as our week? Any reason we are not running Tuesday - Tuesday? Doesn't really matter just wondering...

We've been running Friday to Friday for all of our challenges in 2009 so we just kept it the way it was. Results are usually posted on Tuesday. I thought it was to give the weightkeeper time to compile the results but maybe it was a tie in to the show?!? :confused3

The challenge does start the Friday before the show starts 9/11 for starting weight. First weigh in is after the show starts. I still don't know when the show ends so if anyone does, inquiring minds would like to know. ;)

Susan, glad to hear that you will be joining us. I think saying you've lost 25 pounds sounds pretty darn cool too! :cheer2: I thought of you last week when I saw a very friendly DCA kitty. Didn't see little Miss Ginger but it was so hot most kitties were in hiding. :cat: I'm glad to hear that Daisy is doing so well.

I'm signed up for the Podcast Cruise in December 2010 on the Wonder as well. This would be a good place to start/continue your quest "to get in shape." You'll be able to bring back tips to the Podcast Cruise thread as well.

For those people that do not stop by the DIS Unplugged podcast page a group of ~700 (at this point) DIS/DIS Unplugged/wdwinfo.com people are signed up to sail on the Disney Wonder in December 2010 (I think the 12th). All are welcome to join if you were thinking of cruising with Disney. It'll be my first time.

I will make a note that you are signing up so don't worry if you don't before your trip.

We are in the last few days of our summer challenge. Our summer group stuck through thick and thin even after the challenge was extended. Several people are feeling nostalgic that our challenge is coming to an end. I just don't want to do anything that will take away from that challenge before it is over. Probably on Friday, 9/4, I will put up the BL8 thread -- that gives us all a week to get signed up and chat a little before our starting weigh in.

BilltM, I am glad to see that you are returning. A Disney Cruise sounds like fun, especially with a bunch of Dis'ers. I will post again on the podcast thread as well as on the cruise boards and community boards when I put the BL8 up. I think that you will find some familiar faces from the BL 7.1 team and your green teammates. :)

Thanks-- last time I saw 135 was about 21 years ago after my daughter was born I lost all the baby gain and was in size 8's it seems kind of scary shooting for that to me but as of a year ago I couldn't dream of getting to 160 and I'm at 150 so why not. I'll go through plus's and minus's maybe to really make up my mind about it. I've seen recent pics of the Whitewater snacks calico--(Ginger that's cute) so I know she's good ;-)
Daisy broke my glasses a few nights ago lol. We figured out how exactly she did it with a little sleuthing (they were broke neatly in half) She was shooting for a beanie kitty on the top shelf in my bedroom, knocked it down (we thought she had planted said kitty there to frame him) and knocked down a Harry Potter prisoner of Azkaban hardback which fell onto the ceramic bowl I keep my glasses in- broke the glasses but not the bowl which is really pretty I'm glad.
It's ok though I needed new glasses anyway these were about 5 years old at least. I have contacts and just wear glasses around the house and we are going to drive up to Keizer to America's Best eyeglasses--$69.95 for 2 pairs eye exam included. I also want to go to the dinner theater there (in Salem) and see either Star Trek which I haven't seen yet or Up again- so it's all cool.
Oh hey-- yeah I'm reading the books finally now, can't remember who started reading them--Luv baloo? but I am LOVING them. Have a full on crush on Alan Rickman now also lol as we are re-watching the movies as I finish. I just finished Goblet of Fire and my son says I have to read 2 small books before I read the next. Think I'll dig out Sense and Sensibility until I can watch the next movie lol.
 
Well I just did the plus and minus thing and think the plus really outweighs the minus. It's going to create more work daily as far as scouting for bargains go with food, and being vigilant with food storage (using the foodsaver religiously so it seems) I think it is cheaper to eat unhealthily than not unfortunately in this country but there are ways, including doing more cooking from scratch. I will hone up my rusty baking skills I think stuff like banana bread and zucchini bread- home made applesauce etc. All doable. The back pain has come back although not as bad and often as before, mostly because I have stopped doing my exercises. I have stopped exercise almost completely latey-- no excuse. Some of the minuse's were possible loose skin, looking older because of less fat under the skin, losing a lot of really great clothes and difficulty in maintaining. Thinking about it though I know how resilient skin is and usually that hanging skin thing is more related to fast weight loss. The looking older thing-- well-- I guess I can just stay extrememly hydrated lol and I have invested in some pretty great moisturizers that I need to use...
As far as clothes go I know also that it is easier to find the smaller sizes at thrift shops and on the mark down rack-- and that's actually fun. I also think further weight loss will be a good influence on my son who is obese and husband who eats terribly and his idea of exercise is an occasional walk with me and the kid with a cigarette hanging out of him mouth lol (think Sonny in Grease)
So in conclusion I am going to shoot for it. I think that as long as we go to Disneyland once a year that will be great motivation to keep the weight off for me. I want to be the next Jared of Disneyland! Not quite the same I guess as I don't eat the park food lol.

I'm really starting to feel the affects of the extra weight now though...tired all the time, etc. Also really concerned about health issues that run on both sides of my family, such as, diabetes, high blood pressure & heart disease. I know I need to get a handle on my weight and exercise or I to might be facing these issues.

My problem is staying motivated......I'll do good for a while (exercise & eating right, give up the soda) and start seeing results and then one day if I decide to let it slide, it just goes down hill from there. So if someone will please take me under their wing and hold me accountable I will greatly appreciate it and I promise I won't get mad :laughing:.

I used to have a walking partner here at work but she retired and now I have no one to walk with. Just not so much fun walking alone. Guess maybe I need to invest in an IPOD or MP3 player and walk anyway.

My long term goal is 60 pounds off.
