Biggest Loser 8 Fall Challenge -- for losers and maintainers!

weigh yourself on your scale? Daily? Weekly?

Thanks!

iluvtig :)

I go through cycles where I only weigh once a week, to the opposite and weigh daily. I do always only weigh myself in the morning before breakfast.

Everybody finds different routines work for them.
Your weight can fluctuate from day to day; I notice changes the morning after eating salty food.
If weighing daily makes you feel motivated, then go for it; but if you find yourself feeling discouraged by the day-to-day swings, then go with weekly
:goodvibes

I weigh myself every morning after working out. It makes me feel good to see that what I'm doing is working. I remember when I used to weigh myself and get frustrated! Not anymore! If its says something I don't like I just work harder that day.
Kind of funny story from last night. I was IMing redwalker and I was saying I had a munchy. I was thinking I wanted POPCORN but instead typed ICE CREAM! Didn't realize it until after I had typed it. I then went to the freezer and took out the ice cream and immediately put it back in the freezer and popped a 100 calorie bag of popcorn and shared it with DH.

Happy Thursday everyone!

NOthing much to share from me... I just wanted to hop on and say HI! I've been keeping up with reading here. I loved reading all of the responses to this week's GREAT QOTD! First, it helps me learn so much about all of my friends here! Second, it is AMAZING what some of you folks have overcome.... both over the course of your lives and in your daily living! I am truly inspired.... both by the big dramatic stories, and by the little tid-bits of daily life. I have been struggling with my motivation these past 12 days or so and I love coming here to get a BOOST! ..................P

Thursday QOTD: Lucky You! You have won either a personal trainer or personal chef for the next week! Which do you choose and why?

I'm apologizing in advance again -- it's going to be one of those days. I'm on a tight work deadline, and I probably won't get to post much -- I'll try to get to some replies as I can, so please don't be upset if I don't get to you right away...

I'm going to go with the personal trainer. I could really use a jumpstart to get me moving, and I probably don't work out as hard as I should. That would give me a great baseline so I would know the effort I should be putting out! :thumbsup2

Maria :upsidedow

Good morning all! :goodvibes

Please be sure and PM those weigh in numbers to LuvBaloo and COW numbers to donac tomorrow. May your numbers be all that you hoped for and, if not,, keep trying, it will be your turn soon. :thumbsup2

I already have reached the 15 (18.3 actually) so I'm hoping to reach 20 by the end of the week and then I'll put the new ribbon up. I'm at 3.4 for the week so far. Having a great week so far! Going to have my blood tests redone tomorrow to see if my LDL has dropped which I expect it has.
I do have my little slips but I tell myself that if I eat that piece of chocolate that I have to do extra work to get it off!

I was pretty sure that you were ready for a new ribbon. I am right behind you chasing my 20 lb ribbon. If I don't make it this week, I will next unless my scale numbers do a number on me. Good luck on your bloodtests today. I hope you dazzle your doctor with all your efforts. :cool2:

weigh yourself on your scale? Daily? Weekly?

Thanks! iluvtig :)

You have to figure out what works best for you. I weigh myself every morning. It's a habit ingrained since I was a kid. The big trick is to not let those daily fluctuations get you down when they go the wrong way. The number on the scale is not who you are but somedays it is hard to convince yourself that is the case. :scared:

I'm missing a walk tomorrow. I'm going out with a BFF and we're going to get something to eat and then going to go see New Moon :cloud9:

Maybe you can get in one or two short walks today before or after your movie.

I think for me it is accepting and seeing that I am really a changed person. To trust in myself and the way I look. That it is really me in that store window walking by, that I can fit into sized jeans I never thought I would be able to. I started my journey back in 2005..it was slow, very slow. 2007 Jan. I really made the commitment to turn my life around and 10mons later I was down 52 pounds. I have since then redefined myself, how I look at food(McDonalds-NOT FOOD), how I dress(not mommy-look, I like the athletic look) and how I think about being a healthier me(see how I am not using the word skinny-doesn't sound as good). The BIGGEST mental Accomplishment is when I did the 1/2 Marathon in Lowell MA last Oct. It was awesome, seeing that my body could do that, that I could do it. Reaching that finish line was more than finishing that race to me, it was a defining moment that proved to myself that I was Strong enough, determined enough, healthy enough( I do have 2 slipped discs and a foot drop) to finish that 13.3 miles. When I crossed the finish line, I left that old me in the dust. I hang my metal in my kitchen, and I look at it everyday as a reminder that I can and will do anything I want, and now wear anything as well. Being in a healthy physical condition has its' perks, no back pain and skinny jeans.

I love all these stories about how you all overcome adversity and keep moving toward your goals. It has really helped me stay the course all year when otherwise I would have given up long ago.

Happy Thursday to you, pjlla! :flower3: Sorry to hear your motivation isn't what you want it to be lately. You've come so far and done so well, I know that you won't give up now. You can do it, I know you can! :cheer2:

Thursday QOTD: Lucky You! You have won either a personal trainer or personal chef for the next week! Which do you choose and why?

Hmmm, I think I will go with the personal chef. I really would like someone else to do the planning and the shopping and the preparing for a change. I could use the trainer, too, but of the two I think the chef appeals to me more -- maybe it's because I have to go to the grocery store before work this morning to pick up something for the next night or two until I do the next big planning/shopping session on Saturday.

Maria, hope that your busy days goes by quickly!

Have a great day all!

Thursday QOTD: Lucky You! You have won either a personal trainer or personal chef for the next week! Which do you choose and why?

I'm going to say PERSONAL TRAINER. I do HATE to cook.... but I can manage it. And I don't really desire any big, fancy meals. But I constantly struggle with the exercise portion of things.... both with motivation and being sure that I am doing the right exercise(s) at the right times and at the right intensity. I suppose I could spend a bit of $$ and hire PT occasionally at the Y... but I'm too cheap! Would it be Bob or Jillian or the PT of my choosing?.....P

I love the Holiday!
It has inspired us to rent a cottage in the UK for Christmas next year. We usually go to WDW but maybe this way we can go to Paris instead. We'll see, I need to save my pennies.

Good to see you again, Buffy! :thumbsup2

Glad to be back! It has been a crazy few weeks around here and I'm looking forward to getting back to me time.

WED QOTD: No real mental accomplishments until last night. I was talking to a friend who just had lap band surgery. We talked about her support group and how you have to be selfish (which I'm not) in order to have success. It was a bit of an A-HA moment for me. I am like I am because I put everyones needs before my own.
The members of our PTO are also doing Weight Watchers together so we are doing points, exercising, and doing food journal together.

Thurs QOTD:
I would pick personal chef. I can do the work out thing on my own but we as a family are in a serious food rut. We have the same things all the time now.
I also want to learn first hand about portion control, substitutions, etc. I learned a lot from that one episode of Biggest Loser where they were talking about use 1/2 the usual serving of pasta and make the rest up in veggies.

pjlla - Who would you pick? Bob, Jillian, or another trainer?
I think I would pick Jill, she kicks butt and I need that. I love Bob and if you had asked me 3 years ago I would have picked him too but Jill is more my speed now. Bob is very get into your mind a spirit, quiet calm etc, but Jill is more of a kick the crud out of your anger, frustration and failures.

SERIOUSLY?? Christmas in PARIS!! WHAT A DREAM!! I'm envious that you are even planning this!

I wish I had seen that particular BL episode. I did read some talk here about it after it aired, but I never saw it. I would like to learn more about substitutions, but I think I've finally got the portion thing fairly under control

I think I would say Jillian also.... Bob is WONDERFUL, but perhaps a bit too warm and fuzzy for me as far as a PT would go. I wouldn't want JM to yell at me until I cried or threw up.... but I could use the extra motivation she might give me...........P

if you go to NBC.com you can watch the full episodes online. I'm not sure what episode it was but I think the chef was Curtis Stone.

Thursday QOTD: Lucky You! You have won either a personal trainer or personal chef for the next week! Which do you choose and why?

My first impulse was for the trainer, but like pjlla says, I don't think I want to be pushed until I puke...I'll cry, no problem, but I have no need to be sick in the gym!

And if the chef were going to be Rocco or that hottie australian....tough choice.

I think I'd still go with the trainer. It would be awesome to kick things up a notch!

redwalker - I went to school near Lowell - we often went to plays at the theater there and one of my best friends lived there! I didn't know there was a half marathon there! Hmmm.

maria & lisa Thanks for your comments and support!

Thursday QOTD: Lucky You! You have won either a personal trainer or personal chef for the next week! Which do you choose and why?
Personal chef for sure. Having healthy meals with lots of fruits and veggies would be a dream. I can never find enough time to prepare meals. We have a lot of quick foods - bring breakfast & lunch to work, get home at 6pm and try to make something healthy. We're not struggling, but it's definitely a challenge. I know I would eat better if someone else was preparing.

Waiting for Monday to do the blood tests. Slow start this morning with the girls and if I wait until Monday then I can stop and do errands afterwards on my way home before going to work if I have any clients. We don't open until 11 on Mondays. I have 1 or 2 clients tomorrow so I was getting the stones set up and taking the sheets back this morning.

QOTD: I would take the chef as I love to cook and would love to learn new recipes and techniques. We tend to be picky eaters so if we all watched and learned from the chef maybe it would improve our eating habits.

Just finished 2 miles on the elliptical. Late start today. Will come back after picking up DD2 and do the 3 mile WATP and then try and do 2 more miles on the elliptical at the beginning of Survivor tonight. Not sure what's on the menu tonight yet. Might do fish and fries. DH had Chinese so he won't be very hungry.

Ok, I'm finally back. I had to step away for a bit. I had the flu, 8th grade stuff ramped up, DD3 had the flu, DS8 has a massive ear infection, and DH finally got a new job! But it's 100% travel. He will be gone every week until we go on vacation then he's off to Germany for a few weeks in January.

Dwarf - Sleepy. Had to get up early and take DH to the airport.

Favorite Holiday movie - Miracle on 34th Street (both versions but I like the original more), The Holiday, and Mickey's Once Upon a Christmas.

:welcome: Back! Oh my goodness, you certainly have had plenty going on! Congratulations on dh's new job! I can see why you're Sleepy. Miracle on 34th Street is definitely a classic!

Tuesday QOTD: Tonight "Merry Madagascar" premieres on NBC -- I think its the first holiday special of the season. What holiday special, movie, etc. do you most look forward to from year's past?
Definitely the Muppet Family Christmas & Muppet Christmas Carol. There are a lot of Christmas specials we like though, so I'll have to find time for them all. ;)

Ah, who doesn't love the Muppets?! It's not Christmas without Miss Piggie in a red velvet dress! :santa:

I love the Holiday! I got an Itunes gift card from my birthday and that was the only movie I downloaded with it! I watch it over and over again!

I'm not sure I've see The Holiday -- How great would it be if I have a new movie because you guys are so awesome?! :goodvibes

The workshop went well except for some mistakes on a worksheet. I got a lot of nice complements and the evaluations were good.

Tuesday QOTD: Tonight "Merry Madagascar" premieres on NBC -- I think its the first holiday special of the season. What holiday special, movie, etc. do you most look forward to from year's past?

I love the Grinch but I also love to watch Bing Crosby's "Holiday Inn" and "White Christmas" I remember watching "White Christmas" as a child with our neighbors coming over and having a party while we watched it.

Dona -- You are one of those educators we all hope our children will encounter, not only do you teach the kids, you teach the other instructors  I like White Christmas, but my memories are of not ever seeing the whole thing until a few years ago -- I could never stay awake for the whole movie! Hmm. Now that I think about it, I think my Mom planned it that way

Thanks Worfiedoodles:goodvibes

The dreams just keep getting stranger though. Last night no grandma, but instead some kind of medication I'd never heard of that had a side effect of human combustion?:confused3 What's with that?!:lmao:

Ok, someone's been watching "Heroes" too often :rotfl: I'm so glad you are remembering these dreams. Who knows what you are figuring out as you sleep? I bet your mind is working overtime on something. :thumbsup2

Probably do some more during BL! I love the makeover episode! Enjoy the show tonight! Hoping for a big loss this week!

I agree, the makeover episode is awesome! I'm so glad they all got the "star" treatment. It was certainly well-deserved!

Doing the single digit dance today! Only 9 more days til we head for WDW! You'll never guess what I did this morning. I had my alarm set for 5:30 and I woke up at 4:55 to go to the bathroom. I figured it was pointless to try to go back to sleep at that point, so I went downstairs and did Wii Fit yoga!

QOTD: My favorite classic holiday movie is It's a Wonderful Life, but I also like the Santa Clause movies with Tim Allen.

I'm down to 6 days now! I wish I could focus a little more, but it's time to really get serious about the packing, etc., and I'm finding it very hard to care about working out and weight loss... ::yes:: I love the Santa Claus movies, too! One Christmas Eve we did a theme around them -- we did a Santa puzzle, had Santa cookies and snacks, and watched all 3 movies. Very popular at my house.

We are recording Merry Madagascar tonight. When I was little we really looked forward to the various Christmas specials because, of course, back then you had one shot to watch. Heck, we even had to get up to change the channels! :lmao: Now we have them on DVD but we usually don't watch them until about now.

I love the movie Love Actually -- I can watch it anytime. I have to confess I don't mind watching Vince Vaughn dancing in Fred Claus either. ;)

I remember being the designated channel changer! Heck, I remember when there were only 5 channels, and one of those was PBS! :happytv:

LOVED Madagascar! It was hilarious! DH and I enjoyed some lite popcorn. 5 cups of popcorn was 110 calories! It tasted so good!

It was very cute! I loved the reindeer/penguin interaction! :rotfl2:

Too bad 50sjayne is off celebrating her 20th anniversary -- she would be chiming in since she loves that movie, too.

I wondered where she'd been all week! My dh said I should post a QOTD asking about your favorite Motorhead song to workout to -- I think she might have had an answer! :music:

We watched Merry Madagascar here - I was just excited to get in the holiday spirit with a TV special! I've never actually scene the Madagascar movies.

The Madagascar movies are cute (ok, I admit I haven't seen the 2nd one), but the first one was definitely worth a Netflix. :)

My day has gone as predicted, but I think there's about to be light at the end of the tunnel -- I am looking forward to one of my favorite shows tonight -- Greys. I have a little crush on Dr. Owen Hunt -- ok, my dh also has red hair and blue eyes, but somehow it doesn't quite look the same ;)

Maria :upsidedow

I would love a personal trainer! I want to do some sort of Boot Camp thing-y and see what I can really do if I try.
My sis has a personal trainer and she is getting so fit. She lost 27 lbs this year and now is working very hard to get toned! She does this while I am still working (because we carpool and she finishes 2 hours before me)
I am so envious of her (I gained her 27lbs:lmao:), but I really support her efforts and I'm proud of her.

My 2 DDs did some of the 3 mile WATP with me. DD2 was so cute in her little workout leotard. Just hoping to get 2 more miles done tonight after supper and do my crunches and ab work!

Listening to Christmas music on the radio and unloading the dishwasher. I'm definitely getting in the spirit now!

Aaarrgh! I had this huge post answering everyone on the last page, and it is just gone!

I don't have the heart or time to redo -- so let me just quickly say Thank You for all your fabulous posts! You guys Rock!

It has been a pleasure to be your coach this week, and I've loved reading all your awesome replies!

Let's finish this week strong, and look for some fabulous losses!

Maria :upsidedow

SERIOUSLY?? Christmas in PARIS!! WHAT A DREAM!! I'm envious that you are even planning this!

At this point it's a dream but we found this magazine at Barnes and Noble called Britain and it had cottages in it that you can rent. So that's our goal for next year, we'll see. I also want to add an office and a bathroom on the house so I need to see which is more important, lol.

With this new job we are back in the market to move to Europe so we want to spend some time there to see if I like it. DH travels there extensively and loves it.

Thursday QOTD: Lucky You! You have won either a personal trainer or personal chef for the next week! Which do you choose and why?

I'd go with the trainer, as getting exercise is my weakness.
But I did do stepping the last 2 evenings, and I did 45min this morning, since I'm home, and DD isn't needing to be cuddled all the time today. I'll get some in tonight too.

Off to have a little nap and then do some reading with DD before we go get her sister from daycare. :goodvibes

Good evening everyone. I am so glad that it is Thursday night. I have one more thing to do before I go to yoga and then I think I can finally relax for the week. Just one more day of work to go and then it is quiet time around here. I hope DH goes camping I could use the peace and quiet.

Now on to the COW

COW 8 was attempted by 9 people and I think it is so few since we are just getting back to COWS after a week away. I hope I get a few more this week.

Even though we only had 9 I still want to congratulate those 9who worked on COW8. Here are the winners.
