Biggest Loser 8 Fall Challenge -- for losers and maintainers!

Good morning, all! :goodvibes

Congratulations to all our superstars and especially our weekly biggest loser, sskem96! :cool1: And another big congratulation to all our superstars half way through the challenge, especially dreamlinda for having a loss every week and our biggest loser, TammyAlphabet!

I'm impressed that we are about to top 300 pounds lost as a group and are more than half way to our group goal of losing 500 pounds! :thumbsup2

Thank you, LuvBaloo, for being our weightkeeper, donac for being our COWkeeper and worfiedoodles for running our pamper yourself activities this week!

Today's QOTD:

Are you at the point in life where you THOUGHT you'd be by this age? Not just weight, but financially, family-wise, educationally, etc.

I am where I thought I would be at this stage of my life but it just has taken me a little longer to get here than I thought. I didn't started grad school until I was 29. Got married at 33 and had my DS three days before I turned 39! :yay: Being an older mom gives you the ability to be a little more patient and appreciative of where you are but you sure do wish sometimes that you had more energy. :cool2:

Financially we are on track. It would be nice if the economy would pick up more. I have a stressful job but it pays well and most importantly gives me a lot of flexibility to do things with DS while he is younger. I've worked all my life and have lots of working years left. We have a beautiful home, a beautiful office building and two cars that are paid for. Our real estate is essentially our retirement plan and should be paid off about the time DS starts college.

Colleen27 is right, no one envisions themselves staring down 50 and being almost 100 pounds overweight. But I am working on that and for the first time in years and years I will be starting 2010 weighing less than I weighed when 2009 began and that is an accomplishment to celebrate! :cool1:

Except for my weight, I am right where I had hoped to be at this stage of my life.

This was a great question, pjlla!

Wednesday's QOTD:

What do you do to keep the "Disney Magic" alive in your house on a daily basis?

Good question! I love to have the Disney Magic alive in my heart every single day. I make it a point to wear Mickey Mouse earrings every day. They are pretty subtle so most people don't notice. I try to have at least two Disney trips in the planning stages at any time -- thank you DVC! My cell phone ring tone is "Yo!Ho! Yo!Ho! A Pirate's Life for me." I have a Disney office at work -- lamps and lots of artwork. My dream is to have a picture of each Disney castle in my office from a visit to each park -- someday! :cloud9: I listen to streaming Disney music on my computer at work -- Disradio or Mouseworldradio. And, of course, I come see my Disfriends every day. :goodvibes

Have a great day, all!

Wednesday's QOTD:

What do you do to keep the "Disney Magic" alive in your house on a daily basis?

I have a little bit of Disney through out my entire house. I have Disney World Pictures in my bedroom, the mickey cutting board in my kitchen and a Disney animation cell in my dinning room. On my last trip I got the Disney measuring cups and spoons, so I can cook with Disney too. Everyday I wear my small Mickey ring, so I have Disney with me, where ever I go! :goodvibes

I am having a good day today. The parts of the BL I saw last night, really inspired me!!! I am trying really hard to have a healthy day!!! I set my exercise clothes out on my bed, so when I am done with work I will go home and do a walk at home dvd.

I hope everyone has a Magical Day!pixiedust:

Today's QOTD:

Are you at the point in life where you THOUGHT you'd be by this age? Not just weight, but financially, family-wise, educationally, etc.
I loved reading and getting to know everyone a little better as you answered this question. Very thought provoking.

I am in a good place right now, but not like i had thought when I was younger. I spent most of my 20s in a dead-end relationship, and at 31 finally left it for good. After my dad died, I guess I found the strength to do that, and realized that life is too short, and I need to go after what I want out of life. I dated a lot in my 30s, but never found the one I was supposed to marry, and during the year 2000 I soul searched and decided to have a child on my own. Having a family/children was very important to me. I got pregnant with my son after only 2 tries of artificial insemination in march and he was born 12/4/01. I am thrilled to be a mom, and am truly blessed.
Financially, I have always been a planner. I lived home til I was 25, and then saved over the course of a year, and bought a condo, which I sold after 13 years when Michael was 2 and bought a house. I am an RN, was an LPN first for 3 years, and have been working at the same hospital 3 miles away for 24 years. I changed to endoscopy for different hours when michael started kindergarten, and now I have weekends and holidays off with minimal days on call. I have a little savings, but right now, I want to work as little as possible to make ends meet, and will catch up when he is older, and doesn't need me around as much. Vacation time is very important to me, and as far as making ends meet, that also includes taking vacations-especially to wdw!!
So my plans/wishes I had made growing up have definitely changed, but I am very happy with my life the way it is now.

Thanks Pam for that question. I really made me think of how blessed I really am today. I just went to my ww meeting, and I left early because they were talking about the holidays, and how hard it can be, and I couldn't stop crying, knowing how hard this year will be. I am blessed, and I had my mom til she was 77 years, and thinking back we have so many wonderful memories, but it's so hard to plan for the holidays knowing she won't be there. My son is amazing, and if he were here, he would remind me that she will be here, watching over us, and in our hearts. So, I know that.

Thanks for listening. I'm on an emotional roller coaster this week. I'm so happy and thrilled we're going to wdw on sunday, and then I'll crash down with a thought or memory with my mom. Now, I got to get to work, and after work we'll put away all the halloween stuff, and get the house clean. I love to come home after vacation to a clean house.

A big congratulations to all the big losers this week!!!!! Love reading the mid ways stats too. :cool1::cool1:

Shannon, you are the best!!!!!:flower3:

Nice job on the positive attitude about the weight!! I am excited to have a SECOND year in a row ending the year LOWER than I started it!! Thanks for reminding me to be excited about that!

Glad that BL inspired you. I wish I could watch the whole thing, but DD and I watch DWTS at 9 pm., so unless I go to the un-used playroom by myself, I can't watch the whole thing. Oh well. I didn't exercise this morning because of feeling a bit icky still, so I may also be doing a WATP video tonight. I'll think of you while I am doing it.

I didn't realize what an amazing and strong person you are!! I mean, I knew you were terrific and all, but to go ahead and have a baby, all by yourself, because you knew it was the right thing to do... I'm impressed. And I'm glad I was able to remind you and others of the blessings they truly have in their lives. I suppose it is a nice lead-up to Thanksgiving!

Got to go wrangle these crazy 1st graders... snack time is over!!................P

:hug:This has been a hard week for me too...I wonder if Halloween triggered it, the start of the holiday season or something? My mom was almost 77 when she passed away - for some reason it's important for me to say that, she was 1 month away from her 77th birthday. I don't even feel like "doing" Christmas this year - in my head, my mom and dh's mom are both gone so what's the point? I know that's silly but that's the though that's in there.

I'm glad you're going to the Happiest Place on Earth soon! Enjoy your time and new memories.

Wednesday's QOTD:

What do you do to keep the "Disney Magic" alive in your house on a daily basis?

We have a toaster that plays the Mickey Mouse March when the toast is done...I love that darn thing! It also seems that I'm always scrapbooking a Disney trip, very fun, :) or planning one. Right now our planning is for 10/2010 when my cousin and her family are joining us from Scotland!

Wednesday's QOTD: What do you do to keep the "Disney Magic" alive in your house on a daily basis?
On a daily basis...hmm...we have photos and some mementos from past WDW trips around our house, including several things from Art of Disney (that store is dangerous!). DD sleeps with her stuffed Nemo and uses it like a pillow. I like to listen to the DIS podcast at work. I like checking in with the DIS boards. We're always watching some Playhouse Disney on the weekends. This question has me thinking maybe we should listen to more Disney music around the house too.

Wednesday's QOTD:
Disney is everywhere in our house! Our downstairs bathroom is a tribute to The Little Mermaid and Finding Nemo. Our digital frame has all of our photos from our most recent trip! We watch Disney movies all the time. DH and I are on the Disboards a lot so we talk about it a lot! We spend a lot of time discussing our next trip. I wear my Mickey head earrings every day!

Having a great day and week. Down 3.4 lbs already this week. Did 2 miles on the elliptical already today and the 2 mile WATP. Getting in a cycle of doing this everyday. I will do 3 miles on the elliptical tonight. We are going out to dinner at the 99. I was checking their nutritional facts online. NOT VERY NUTRITIONAL! I finally found something in my calorie range: chicken tenders and steak tips. I'll skip the french fries. Still about 720 calories but I'm saving my calories for tonight as much as possible. Had my daily soda so I will be drinking water at supper!
Made our chili and chocolate chip coffee cake for the cook off at Dh's work. Wish us luck. I had to make a 2nd coffee cake as I messed up the first one.

Hope everyone has a super day!:cool1:

Wednesday's QOTD: What do you do to keep the "Disney Magic" alive in your house on a daily basis?

In my family room is a currio cabinet that has my salt and pepper shakers, and a beautiful villian snow globe . We have little touches through out the house. At school I have the villians poster above the door.

I agree with mikamah for the great Tuesday question. It makes me thankful for all I have. It has also given me great insight to the strong and wonderful women who are using this to get healthy.

had a slight run in with some carmel corn the other night...

Sarah

Missed this--lol!

Today's QOTD:

Are you at the point in life where you THOUGHT you'd be by this age? Not just weight, but financially, family-wise, educationally, etc.

Never really had any big plans.Around 18 or so I decided to either marry Bowie or Paul Mcartney- with Paul taken, emphasized on Bowie. (lol) When that didn't pan out decided on just a rich man-- not necessarily to be rich, just so I didn't have to do much...well married a poor man, but one that has always held a job for the almost 20 years we've been together lol.

Congrats to all the losers this week and over the first half of this challenge.

Taking my two cats to the vet yesterday was a trip. It took me over 20 minutes to get them intheir carrying cases. One weighs 8 pounds the other weighs 17 pounds. The bigger one had to be sedated to get some things done (she was screaming like a crazy when they tried to do something to her that needed to be done) so when she came home she dissappeared. Dh found her in the basement lying on a blanket.
Sounds like you have a good vet. I love it when they don't take a kitty seriously- and get a little scarred in the process....took Harvey in to get his blood tested when he was tiny-- I warned them he was feral and bites but one girl was mushing all over him (he is outstandingly cute)and got herself bit pretty hard.

Wednesday's QOTD:

What do you do to keep the "Disney Magic" alive in your house on a daily basis?

Well, it's mostly me sharing the tidbits of info--news about Disneyland with everyone and the occasional new you tube video of a revamped ride or new fireworks show.

We have a toaster that plays the Mickey Mouse March when the toast is done...I love that darn thing! It also seems that I'm always scrapbooking a Disney trip, very fun, :) or planning one. Right now our planning is for 10/2010 when my cousin and her family are joining us from Scotland!

How cool is that?

Wednesday's QOTD:

What do you do to keep the "Disney Magic" alive in your house on a daily basis?

Um...not much! I come on the DIS constantly is what I do! I don't have any disney products around the house other than movies.

P.S. That musical toaster sounds like a blast! I have never seen anything like that before!

I had that same toaster!!... but it broke within 6 months of buying it and it went to the dump...:sad2: I was very sad and will continue to look for another one! It made me smile every timme I used it.

I'd love to see a picture of your bathroom! DD would like to redecorate her bathroom some time soon and she would like a "sea" theme. I've come up with lots of different ideas and color combos, but she doesn't seem sold on any of them. But she LOVES Nemo and Ariel (even though she is 14!), so maybe she would like that!

Good job finding something to eat at the 99. We love that restaurant, but never go anymore because it was just so difficult to eat healthy there! There was a very tasty teriyaki chicken breast with rice that I used to get, but I don't recall the points on it. But I LOVE the margaritas at the 99... they are the best ones around!

Well... my crazy 1st graders have settled down to watch a movie. I had five out sick and another one went home midday. Another is not looking well, but apparently he just returned today after being out sick... maybe he isn't completely over it yet.

I called home and DH said DS is feeling better and is fever free for the moment, so that is good. I got a text from DD at school (not sure where she was texting, as it is against school rules), but she said she felt lousy but thought she'd make it through the day. She was contemplating going to swim practice tonight, but I think that will be out of the question if she still feels lousy at 4pm. That means I won't be getting to the YMCA tonight for a workout, so it looks like I will DEFINITELY have a date with Leslie Sansone to Walk Away The Pounds!! :rotfl:

Tonight is leftover night at my house. When I packed up the leftovers last night I realized that the fridge was FULL. We usually keep good control over leftovers, so it must just be that I haven't paid good attention. So tonight will be ....

pulled pork (enough for two)

pasta and sauce (and a few meatballs)

a bit of chili

the remainder of a yummy loaf of cinnamon raisin bread

a bit of couscous

and whatever else I uncover in there!!

With salad and some hot veggies on the side we should be all set.

If I don't have to go to the Y tonight, I will plan on sitting at my scrapbook table for a few hours after my workout. That is definitely my "me" time!! ........................P

Tuesday's QOTD:

Are you at the point in life where you THOUGHT you'd be by this age? Not just weight, but financially, family-wise, educationally, etc.

Hmm. Well, going back to what I thought in my youth, not exactly. I definitely weigh much more than I thought I ever would. Financially, we're doing much better than I expected. I thought I would have 3 kids and be a SAHM. We have one and I work full-time, but it fits our family perfectly. I do have the Masters degree I expected, but I'm not using it like I thought I would. I expected to be working as a museum curator, instead I'm a grants professional. I used to think I wanted to run my own non-profit, I decided about 10 years ago I didn't want all the evening and weekend commitments that come with it, I wanted to really enjoy my time with our family. I never thought I wanted to live in the Northeast, but I love Boston. I always wanted to travel, and when we started taking trips I assumed we would get, I don't know, one or two really good vacations in our lives -- I really believed we'd go to WDW once, cruise once, etc. We've been to Orlando multiple times, and cruised the Eastern and Western Caribbean, Mexican Riviera, and to Bermuda, not to mention a short Bahamas cruise on the Disney Wonder. We have been very blessed. A lot of people are talking about their spouses -- I will say that when I dreamed of my future Mr., I never thought I'd marry a redhead! I also never thought I'd do one Half Marathon, let alone be training for my 3rd. I found my inner athlete, and I'm grateful I finally enjoy a fitness activity. The only area of my life where I feel I need real improvement is my weight -- indeed, I am very blessed! :flower3:

Wednesday's QOTD:

What do you do to keep the "Disney Magic" alive in your house on a daily basis?

Ssshhh. I try not to mention "Disney Magic"! My dh finds all things Disney abhorrent, so I don't throw it in his face. I save all my Disney love for the DIS!

Maria :upsidedow

pjlla: I'd love to see a picture of your bathroom! DD would like to redecorate her bathroom some time soon and she would like a "sea" theme. I've come up with lots of different ideas and color combos, but she doesn't seem sold on any of them. But she LOVES Nemo and Ariel (even though she is 14!), so maybe she would like that!

We painted it blue with a darker blue around the door and window frames. Then we took the lithographs from Nemo and Mermaid DVDs we had bought and put those around the wall. The bathroom was so drab before. It was a last minute thing and my parents mainly use it when they are visiting. I got some hand towels with octopus on them and put a few little knick knacks in there. Still haven't put a curtain up but have blinds. It definitely brightened up the room!

I only have 1 or 2 drinks a week and like to wait until at least Friday so it doesn't hurt my weigh in on Friday! LOL!

I've been good all day, saving up my calories, but I will also do the elliptical afterwards. Of course, there is a coupon for a free appetizer and we love their gold fever wings! I may eat 2 or 3.

We have a toaster that plays the Mickey Mouse March when the toast is done...I love that darn thing!

I used to have that toaster, and it toasted Mickey's face into the bread. DH didn't like it when I got up earlier than him and made toast. For some reason he didn't want to be woken up by the toaster :lmao:

Wednesday's QOTD: What do you do to keep the "Disney Magic" alive in your house on a daily basis?

I have Thomas Kincade Disney Castle print in the dining area, and Disney Precious Moments figures in the living room, and my basement foyer has Disney pictures. And of course we regularly watch Mickey Mouse Clubhouse!:goodvibes

I bought 4 little sandwich Mickey plates at our last visit and we use them every day. I really wondered about getting them and now I'm so glad I did!:wizard:

Also Sis bought me a Birthday Mickey that came with a beautiful large bouquet of flowers. They were in our room when we got back from my bday dinner at Boma. Every once in a while I press the button and it plays Happy Birthday. This always makes my sister laugh (I tend to do it at night or morning):rotfl:

I don't have the Thomas Kincade but the David Doss print with the sand pales. My friends gave it to me as a birthday present. My sister gave me one of the Flower and Garden SHow from him that he signed. I also got to meet him in Epcot one time that I was there. His are a lot of beach scenes and since I live at the shore it is perfect for the house.

I just google that to check it out. It looks very nice!:goodvibes

Back from dinner! Had the chicken tenders and steak tips at 99. We did get an appetizer combo. I had one potato skin and 3 or 4 chipotle fever wings. I had 2 large glasses of water. Going to do 2-3 miles on the elliptical so hopefully that will counteract the food I ate. Didn't eat much earlier in the day so I should be ok. Would love to reach 5 pounds for the week by Friday morning! After gaining last week I'm focused to do REALLY well this week!
