Biggest Loser 8 Fall Challenge -- for losers and maintainers!

Well, if you look at my weight from when I first weighed in - then I'm a maintainer. But, if I look at my weight since coming back from vacation and gaining 4 lbs - then I've lost 3 of those!! So, although I don't make the loser board (because I didn't weigh-in during vacation). I'm really excited about my progress this week and am determined to be really back with the losers next week!:cheer2:

Thanks for all the well wishes and prayers for my Dad - he's doing okay today. Still hoping he gets to go home on Sunday.

I gotta turn this around! Another week posting a gain. I had a couple not-so-good days, but I went to the gym 6 out of 7 days and did some strength training and some cardio. Just doesn't seem right! :confused3 I'm aiming for a loss next week for the first time since this challenge started.

luvbaloo and shewelch - thanks for posting tho pictures - I love them! :goodvibes

I was up further North this week. It was a horrible week for food. Can I have bonus points on veggies though? Food there is really really expensive. I always ordered a side salad :) Last night I order a healthy Arctic Char Special and the salald. I forgot to tell the lady at the cash about the salad so she rang it in after....it was $7.50 for a tiny salad. I looked at her in shock and then said to my traveling partner at least I was healthy. Considering it was the last day I shouldn't have been to surprised but this was the most telling.

I haven't been on lately, & it is really tough, but fun, catching up here!!

Last week I lost .2, this week maintained. It has been REALLY tough keeping any semblance of on track, except for walking which the husky requires.

I still have hives, but am thankful blood & biopsies were fine. There could be many worse things, but they sure are irritating. Then Thurs my DSis in FL went for her mammo(had BC 4+ yrs ago) and had 3 call backs. She is having 2 biopsies on her 'good' side done on Tuesday. Last time she had a 2cm lump on her rib cage just below the left breast. Apparently now the 1 'dot' they saw 6 mo ago is now 2 areas of microcalcifications. As the Radiologist told her 'we HOPE that it isn't cancer'. So, I'm not going to FL next week (and DD has to finish her scholarship packets, etc) but may end up going if the biopsies show cancer to help w/ her granddaughters she babysits, lend some moral support, run interference, etc until the DNieces who are both teachers can arrange other care for the kiddos. Time will tell.

If you've read this & haven't joined the exercise challenge, come on over!! Even if you pledge 30 min a week, it will help you!!

Off to read more....

BTW, I LOVE the costume pics!! I haven't dressed up in years, but my Yorkies do! This year, since we have the Husky, it will be a threesome. 3 lb Max will be a sailor, Mia will be a mermaid & the Husky will be a Shark. DD is making a small boat for the little ones to sit in. Last year Mia was a pirate wench & Max was Captain Jack complete w/ dreadlocks. Year before Max was a Wizard & Mia a Princess. Yes, I'm Crazy!!!! But they actually keep me sane!

Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!!

I'm the same also. Hoping some of my Oct challenges kick this thing in the butt. I did finish W2D3 of the Cto5K though and actually went an hour rather than the 20 minutes. I walked at a slow pace for a good 20 minutes while I talked to my mom on the phone but I was still walking none the less.

10/1 QOTD: Do you plan to dress up for Halloween? If your fairy godmother showed up on the 31st and was prepared to transform you for the evening, what would your costume be?

I absolutely plan to dress up for Halloween! I actually have to have two costumes; one for the evening (I'm going as the maid from Rocky Horror Picture Show, since we have tickets to go to the show), and one for during the day (I'm a teacher and somehow don't think Rocky Horror maid is appropriate). I have ALWAYS wanted to be a pirate, since I was little, but so many other people are pirates... Maybe I will this year anyway. And I also have a poodle skirt I would love to fit into again. When in doubt, I pull out one of my many sets of ears from Disneyland and go as that character. I also have Tinkerbell wings I haven't used yet... I would just love to be smaller so I can fit some of those really cute costumes, like a flapper or Juliet or the cool pirate princess ones...
Maybe next year? This year I'll work with what I've got!

Bad last couple of days. I went to a conference all yesterday and today, and my willpower went STRAIGHT out the window. And I was doing so well before. Sigh. That's okay, though - right back on track tomorrow!:yay:

That's fantastic. Congratulations. :thumbsup2

Okay - you two. Here I go. I know we don't know each other. I have no idea how long your journey has been. So forgive me if this comes off at all patronizing. I don't mean it to be.

I've been doing this for quite awhile (slow loss - years ) and am around 70 pounds down (I was never on a scale in the beginning - so I only know at least 70).

And a couple of things that I've learned.

TIgger!!!!! Stop with the only. Only? :lmao:;) This is a journey and there are weeks where you or many of us would kill for a 1.8. 1.8 in one week is fantastic. Really great. So congratulations.

Just sending :thumbsup2 to you both.

I know. I had a good week last week so that's why it was an only:) I had lost 30 pounds earlier this year and gained back 13 since April so I'm thinking about that goal and wishing it would come sooner. I can't do my ellipitical as it bothers my knee and that really helped me get it off easier. I've been doing the WATP religiously and the free step on the Wii Fit and when time walking 3-5 miles during the day. Going to continue to work out this weekend. I took last weekend off so gained back 2 pounds. SO really thinking about it I did lose 3.8 which was the same as last week. I have lost almost 10 of the 13 so I need to focus on that! I'll stop complaining unless of course I gain :rotfl:

Have a great weekend! It's raining here. Guess I'll have more time for indoor workouts today. Skipping DD1s soccer game so DD2 and I don't have to get soaked. Also had a b'day party postponed due to the weather so staying in. Can't wait to see Toy Story 1 and 2 next Sunday. Can't go this weekend as DH is on call:(

I am down .4 this week. I am not moving as fast as some people but I have been down every week and that is what I was hoping for.

Keep up the good work everyone. I am off to see Toy Story 1 and 2 this morning. Can't wait.

It is a nasty, rainy day for us, too. I tried to convince dh to go take ds to the movies, he doesn't want to leave the house. After my workout ds and I are going to get out the indoor Halloween decorations and bake cookies and brownies. I am not eating the offenders. I bought my own low-cal cookies, so I know I have a treat, just not theirs.

I had a great loss for me this week -- I finally made a big milestone, and I know it's all downhill from here. I get to fly at Thanksgiving, and I am determined I am going to slide easily in and out of that row -- and then have no trouble with the ride seats. We're going to Universal, and I intend to be a Mom without a care about fitting into anything while we're there!

Plus, I think I found my waist! On the bummer side, I also seem to need a smaller bra (sorry dh). I've lost about 20 lbs since January, and I think I need to face up to it and buy a bra that fits...

Maria :upsidedow

Thanks for the welcome :goodvibes

I am down 1.6 this week...nice way to start off. :thumbsup2Way to go for those showing a loss this week. If you had a gain or maintained, you got this...you can do this :cheer2:

Loved the costume pics...too cute!

This week, I want to take part in the COW for sure. I think that will help me pick up so good habits!

For those of you with a Wii Fit (I just got one as well), what do you do on it...like what is your favorite way to workout with it? I want to start using mine.

Fixing to head out for a walk...it is a nice cool morning here and I need to get moving:banana:

Have a wonderful weekend!! We CAN do this!

Dona, I hear ya on not moving so fast. Being down every week is a huge accomplishment, though and you'll get there that way!

Maria - congratulations on your great loss and milestone! I didn't know you'd be in Orlando over Thanksgiving! Congratulations on finding your waist! - It is so fun when you can actually SEE results. I seem to have misplaced my waist again, I'm afraid. My hips and bust ar shrinking as fast as my middle, it seems, and I'm afraid I'm going from voluptuous to straight as a board. :sad2: So I hear ya on the smaller bra, believe me! Don't forget to buy a new sports bra or two as well - I never notice the need as soon there, but it makes a difference, for sure.

It is cold and misty here as well today. I am going to head out for a gentle 2 mile run. I took the last 2 days off - rest and Renaissance Festival, and have the 10 mile race tomorrow morning. I just want to remind my legs about running one more time before the race! Then off to the expo to get my number. Pretty exciting! I still don't quite know what I'm going to wear tomorrow. I hear the rain is upposed to clear off, though!

I have lost almost 10 of the 13 so I need to focus on that! (

Isn't that a great feeling? Good for you Tracey. :woohoo:

I too am working on a gain in my journey so I know that feeling. It's such a relief to face it and move on. Such a relief.

What a lovely post Maria. :flower3: Good for you.

I like some of the yoga and strength exercises but my favorite is the step and free step. I try to do 30 minutes each day!

I agree its to early. I was planning to schedule a flu shot in the next week or so. Now I have to wait. I had the H1N1 symptoms (based on a news article). Sore throat, chills, fever. Now I have the persistent cough & runny nose symptoms.

 to everyone who has been feeling sick. I hope that everyone gets to feeling better soon. I will do our flu shots next week. They will do the H1N1 through DS' school.

Well I'm even Steven this week, that's fine I'll take it and try to find less caloric ways to eat veggies this week. ;)
We went to take a late night walk last night and was looking for a coat for my son and found one he hasn't worn in years so that is encouraging. We had a talk about him losing some weight and came up with some good ideas including him suggesting he swim once a week at least. Awesome.

It's great that your son is following your example of a healthy lifestyle! :goodvibes

Great pep talk, lisaviolet! :thumbsup2

I had a very nice loss this week! :thumbsup2 Hope a lot of the rest of you did too, but even if you didn't lets keep on keeping on and it will come off! It's deffinitely a journey and we can do it!

Sarah

Congrats on the nice loss! You are doing great this challenge! :)

Hooray for big milestones! :cheer2: Congratulations!

It is cool and rainy here, too. Had to cancel our annual trip to the pumpkin patch with our guest. :upsidedow Will go drive around a bit and DS had a birthday party this afternoon. Rainy weather makes for good napping weather! :lmao:

Please remember to PM your weight and COW numbers if you haven't already done so!

Our coach will be checking in soon. In the meantime, here is a bonus QOTD since it sounds like a lot of us are having a taste of fall weather:

How does your exercise routine change when the weather gets colder?

We have a lot of weather that is not condusive to outside workouts. That is when the DVDs or the Wii Fit really get put to use. I am going to clean out my attic storage and get a treadmill so I can use that, too.

I do most of my exercising inside so it doesn't change much. The room I work out in is the finished basement so it tends to be cool which is good for me once I'm really sweating. Now that I've found the WATP videos I will be all set! And I'll be getting the Wii Fit Plus on Monday. I wish I could get it tomorrow but my mom and I are going up to NH on Monday for the day and going to Best Buy! Can't wait!

How does your exercise routine change when the weather gets colder?

I live in Minnesota and I LOVE it when the weather gets colder!! I just wear slightly different clothes (running tights, jacket, fleece headband, gloves) and head on out. Unless there is ice, blizzard raging or high winds, I enjoy sweating a little less and love to work out in the colder temps. I even did a race in -2º one year. I typically draw the line somewhere between teens and single digits, but this was a race! When I got to the finish, my eyelashes were coated in ice:

When the sidewalks aren't clear in the winter, I do grudgingly revert to treadmill workouts. My treadmill is such a stinker - I don't think its ideas of speed and distance are at all related to actual speed or distance, so it always takes some adjusting. This winter, I plan to incorporate more cross training. Maybe add a spin class or some swimming.
