Biggest Loser 8 Fall Challenge -- for losers and maintainers!

9/29 QOTD: It's important to find new ways to make our foods flavorful and interesting without adding a lot of calories. One of the best ways to do this is with herbs and spices. Do you have a favorite herb, spice or other seasoning?

I like adding fresh garlic :thumbsup2 I also like cilantro :thumbsup2
I don't add salt to anything except french fries and edamame.

:grouphug: Mikamah, sorry to hear about another loss in your family. You are a strong person to handle these losses so well.:grouphug:

ShortyNBug - have you tried using fresh garlic or minced garlic instead of garlic salt?

I didn't get last results finished last night. If work goes smoothly I'll get to them at lunch time, otherwise, it'll be this evening. I'm happy to say the reminder post brought in some more weigh ins!:thumbsup2

Woops! Here is how it happened: I was up late last night and decided to post the QOTD before I went to bed. And so I looked at my watch which said 9/29 and thought "oh, but this is for tomorrow" so changed the date to 9/30! Little did I know that it was already tomorrow!

I wondered about this myself. Funny.

Totally understandable., corinnak, hope that your day is less hectic today.

Well all...I am back.
My wedding reception was last weekend, so the stress and time commitment from that is over and I can focus. For those who don't know, my husband and I got married September 25, 2008, Disneymooned April 2009 and had our reception last weekend. We are actually thinking about sneaking back to Disney again this year with our wedding present money and the buy 4 get 3 promotion. I am still in the decompress mode this week and will do my first weigh in on Friday. I don't want to know what it will look like!

My company went out of business in May and between stress, depression and boredom, a year's worth of weigh loss went out the window in a matter of a few weeks! :sad2: I am still unemployed, so the stress is still high there, but I started grad school a few weeks ago, so I don't have time to be depressed or bored! I am in an accelerated full time program and still looking for a job, so I am more than busy!

As for the QOTD- I use a lot of Whole Foods organic blends. I love their Mediterranean on tilapia!

My cousin lost her battle with lung cancer on saturday, and the wake is tonight, and funeral tomorrow. Her sister died 6 weeks ago, and an old friend of mine died 2 weeks ago. They were all in their 50s, and it is a very overwhelming time for me right now.

I am so sorry! I lost a relative to bone cancer over the summer. One day he was fine, then he fell in the bathroom and within a few weeks was dead. It was so sudden. I cant imagine losing so many in such a short period of time. :sad1:

Good morning. It's been a stressful week for me. My cousin lost her battle with lung cancer on saturday, and the wake is tonight, and funeral tomorrow. Her sister died 6 weeks ago, and an old friend of mine died 2 weeks ago. They were all in their 50s, and it is a very overwhelming time for me right now. When my friend died, I had just restarted ww, and I did really well staying in control and not comforting myself with food. On sunday morning, I baked brownies, and 5 batches of cookies. I guess it was stress baking. I brought some over to my aunt, and the rest to work, but did eat lots too. Not beating myself up at all. trying to take it one day at a time. My goal for the rest of the week is to get through tomorrow, and get back on track thursday. Pjlla- your words in june keep coming back to me- I can't control what has happened, but i can control how I react to it. Reading through the thread really does help to inspire me, and to motivate me to get back on track. I'll pack a good lunch for work today, and I'll try to do the wii free step as I watch the bl tonight.

Bill- thanks for posting the pics. I only took some of michael on the train. I wish I had taken more. Next time.

For the qotds- my hair is my favorite part of me. I have a nice cut, and I color it myself but I'm lucky to have thick hair.

Not very adventurous with the spices, but tend to add salsa to lots of foods to spice them up. Love newman's pineapple salsa.

Have a good day everyone.

SO sorry for your losses. Take care of yourself!

QOTD: Do you have a favorite herb, spice, or other seasoning?

I found a dry BBQ seasoning that you just shake on kind of like seasoned salt. I think it's by McCormick. Of course I'm out of it right now so I can't remember exactly! We tend to cook a lot of chicken and pork chops on the grill, and I like the BBQ seasoning on it. DD12 is allergic to cinnamon, so we aren't able to use that at all anymore. Pretty much have to avoid breakfast buffets because of it too.:sad1:

I'm getting ready to do my Pilates on my new exercise mat. Hopefully my bruised tailbone will appreciate the $30 I spent on the dang thing! Things are going good so far weight wise this week. DD10 :cake: gets to pick whatever she wants for dinner tonight since it's her b-day, and it will be carry-out since we won't get home from all the kids' activities til around 8. I'm really hoping she picks something I can eat too without feeling guilty!

Does anyone else have the problem with it posting double? Can I delete one? I onlt hit the post quick reply button once so I'm not sure why it randomly happens to me. Sorry.

oops....you didn't lose your mind, I deleted your duplicate post. i try to do that when i'm reading through and notice one. I don't think you can delete a double, sometimes when that happens I've seen the 2nd of the two edited to say 'duplicte' rather than seeing the 2nd post in it's entirety.

i'm doing HORRIBLE today.....i'm home alone, it's dreary out and i'm just not motivated to do anything! i did get a 2.5 mile walk in this morning, but it all went downhill from there.

 Kathy...my prayers with you and your friends and family

I am sooo excited!! I just started a "Biggest Loser" contest at my workplace going to 10 weeks! We did this in the early Spring and it REALLY helped with my weight loss. I think the timing is PERFECT as it will end the day before I leave for WDW (coincidence? I think not :lmao:)

Anyway, it begins on Monday, I joined a brand new 24 hour Fitness that is literally a block from my house, Biggest Loser is on tonight and I'm MOTIVATED to kick start my weight loss again! Starting at a new gym and having new challenges REALLY helps me, and I can't wait!!

I also got my entire family on the "healthy bandwagon" this weekend. We go on family walks (1-2 miles) every night and I have committed to working out (including swimming now..yippee) at least 4X per week. DH told me he would get my $20 in Disney Dollars for every week I work out at least 4X per week. This would be total "free mommy money" for my trip and, yes, that too motivates me :lovestruc

Just had to share!

As far as the QOTD...I pretty much add garlic salt and jalapeno to everything I make. I gives it a kick and makes almost everything taste better.

ohMom - I hope your day has improved! :flower3:

work got too crazy to get the results tallied up, so I'll be doing it tonight while watching BL:happytv:! Sorry for the delay :guilty:, they will be posted tonight :thumbsup2

Mon. QOTD: What part of your body do you like right now? What can you do to nurture or show off that part of your body this week?

My face. I have been able to see a difference lately and I like it. I'm wearing my ruby necklace I got 75% off at Target awhile back today in honor I guess ;-) Trying to wear more makeup for work too- I just normally use concealer and powder.

I seriously need to work on my middle. It has too much flab and makes me feel uncomfortable. I am looking forward to getting it toned and awesome

Yeah I was feeling your pain trying on the bra--my waist is definitely loose-- the stretch marks don't look good with less fat under them. Ugh.

Is Catherine's a plus size store? I had never heard of it. I am in the same boat with the new bra - I don't know whether to cheer or cry!

Yeah, seems I havent gone down a cup size but wear a 34 better than 36 now. I think some of my other ones were just kind of stretched out too. And Catherines is a plus sized store yep.

Yes, yes it surely is! You make the fall sound so wonderful!
Doesn't everyone here though? I envy some of you with more pronounced seasons. Although everyone likes fall here too. I'd like it better if it were drier. I remember finding one of our kitties- well husband found her-- at his work in pouring down rain on Halloween almost starved to death. She was sitting in front of the pop machine they have in their smoking are outside for the warmth. She is a mystery really- she is so extremely affectionate (mostly to me) but very skittery. She must have just been dumped there because that is where we got 3 other kittens that were very feral. Coming back to the subject though, it had been raining for most of Oct. that month and he said some other people had seen her running around there for weeks. He always would put food by the dumpster for the cats- leftover sandwiches etc. She must have been existing on just this.
I remember feeling so sorry for her because it had rained so much and her just running around hungry and scared. She also had a huge hole in her foot--seriously, the vet squirted alcohol and it went right through. I'm sure I have a pic of her somewhere on the computer but she's just a shorthaired black cat-- kind of a stocky build. Another one who I'd love to get on kitty biggest loser.

QOTD: Do you have a favorite herb, spice, or other seasoning?
I am a garlic fiend. Seriously- I have a Johnny's Garlic that I use like a salt shaker. There's also a Johnny's seasoning salt that is the Bomb.
Oh also-- I don't think I answered the part about how you could encourage the family to be more active over the weekend? Well, my son and I went for a good walk Friday night I think. I wish I'd got another in but I was tired Sunday and spent my whole night watching tv after work lol-- didn't realize the new Fox lineup was all new.
Sat was my fun day getting my glasses, lol. I spent 4 hours+ at a Goodwill outlet up there and seriously it was 4 hours of maniacally sorting through bins packed with clothes(and other misc.). My arms were actually tired the next day. Found some great clothes in sizes that will fit me now though for practically nothing,(everything was $1.39 a lb.) a big electric blanket for the cats in the garage, and a very cool plastic christmas candle light up thingie (which weighed nothing lol) among other things.
I also visited Honeywood winery which was great-- they had marked down all their gourmet food stuff to $1 each- I got a bunch of stuff for making gift bags. I went there to buy a six pack on their wine since it is Awesome wine and you get 20% off if you do, but ended up just getting one bottle of triple berry since I already have a lot of wine and got such a good deal on all the food stuff.
I also ate at Burgerville..hey I had to get my veggies in right. Sweet potato fries helped me with that...lol. :rolleyes1
I am so happy to get my glasses though! They did a great job and they aren't too awfully thick--my prescription is a substantial one and it would have cost an extra 30$ to get the thin lenses (not a lot after I thought about it- shoot) but I only wear them in the morning and sometimes in the evening if my contacts are bugging me at all. The deal was 2 pairs of glasses for $69.95 including eye exam and they gave me one for reading and one for distance-- right on. My eye doctor always has said I needed a pair for reading really. I was expecting professor Trelawney glasses-- but they are fine.

Happy B.D. to your DD! :cool1: Can you eat just 1/2 or even 3/4 of what is picked if it's not too good for you? You have to be able to indulge once in awhile or things are not going to be doable long term.

Susan, I always like to see your kitty pictures and hear your kitty stories. All your kitties are always on the bed, or playing, or with a human. They are all so lucky to find a good home with you.

Congratulations to all the COW participants for week 2! :cool1::banana::cool1:

I've missed a couple of days on the two servings of veggies COW. :sad2: I think mikamah should get an honorable mention for the COW this week because she inspired the WISHers at the Dismeet to each their vegetables! :thumbsup2

And a big thank you to donac and LuvBaloo, our COW keeper and weightkeeper for all their hard work keeping track of our numbers! :goodvibes

Things continue to be crazy around here. I worked a over 30 hours this weekend- that was in 2 and a half days, and that was just at Worlds of Fun. My restraint training is finally over, so I actually have time to get things done. My principal also talked to my para and I'm hoping that things will go better.

How very sad. I'm sorry for your losses.

Great QOTD! I LOVE spicy food, so I LOVE spices... We use a lot of cilantro, but the one we are continuously restocking is cumin. The spicier the spice, the better. For more mild foods, I also use a vegetable spice which is great. That, garlic, curry, and chili pepper round out my "must use" section. Also - and kind of odd - I do not eat onions (hate them!), but I do use onion powder and onion salt sometimes. If anyone knows can recommend any hot and spicy sauces or spices, I'd love to here them! We usually have about 4 -5 varieties of hot sauce in the fridge at any time, but a lot of them have sugar and stuff, wich I am trying to get away from.

I've been having a pretty good week. I've started keeping track of WW points and have been writing everything down.

Yesterday I went to the gym and did Body Pump, and today I went and walked/ran 2 miles. I walk 1/10th mile, run 2, walk 1, run 2.

I'm feeling blllllahhhhhhh this week as my monthly visitor is here (sorry for you men). I always feel so fat at this time of the month!

Congrats to Redwalker for her perfect COW score. She has been my major motivation since Christmas! We were college roommates freshman year 21 years ago! She's an awesome friend and walking buddy!

I walked 5 miles at the track tonight while DH and DD1 were at soccer practice. 1/2 mile of that was jogging. I was good all day food and water wise! I feel great about it. Don't know if I'll get that much in tomorrow but I enjoyed my day and workout time today. I was up 2 pounds as of this morning from last week which really motivated me to stay focused today!

Here's to a good day for everyone tomorrow!

Way to go with walking 5 miles tonight! I need to be more active while at the soccer fields with my DD1- I should be able to make that change being the coach and all.. LOL!

Thanks for being so supportive to everyone...

Let's rock that Fabulous at 40 thing!!! :woohoo: :cool1:
