Biggest Loser 8 Fall Challenge -- for losers and maintainers!

Yeah, I was going to start Wk 2 on Wednesday as well. I usually run with my dog, who is good at the beginning but then actually slows me down near the end, so I decided to leave her at home last night when I went. Turns out I was going easier with her, so I am going to do ONE more day on week 1, just so I feel more confident.

Anyway, for the QOTD: Um, I love my eyes, because they are all different colours, and I will show them off by getting enough sleep so they aren't dwarfed by the huge dark circles that continuously frame them! I also like my feet (weird, right?), but the weather man told me that sandals are unlikely this week. And - this is weird - but I actually like my chest a lot. I find when I wear v-neck shirts (nothing too low) I look slimmer and you can see my collar bones (a little) and the area right under them. That's the part I mean. So I will choose my outfits for work accordingly this week. :)

Crazy busy week for me this week. I have a dinner meeting (yikes! wish me luck) in about an hour, and then I am running around to prepare for a weekend conference starting on Thursday. Sigh. Must.eat.healthy...

I've been trying to read the thread updates each day, but I'm behind in posting my QOTDs. DD#2's birthday is tomorrow, so she had a friend stay over Fri. night, DD#1 had a friend over Sat. night, and we had a birthday party at a gymnastics place Sun, so I haven't had much time for playing on the computer!

Thursday QOTD: What is your favorite healthy dessert?
I don't know about healthy, but for a yummy lo-cal chocolate fix I like a sugar free chocolate pudding cup with fat free cool whip on top. Only 1 pt!

Friday QOTD: If there were no gravity or weight, only mass, how would you measure your success? Tell us your favorite or most anticipated Real Life Victory.
I guess my success diet-wise could still be measured by size, but also by energy level or endurance while exercising. I think my most anticipated Real Life Victory will be seeing my kids graduate college and get married.

Saturday QOTD: What makes or would make physical activity more enjoyable for you?
How about instant results?:rotfl2: Well, that would certainly give me more motivation! I think the music I listen to while exercising makes it enjoyable, or a beautiful day if I'm riding my bike.

Mon. QOTD: What part of your body do you like right now? What can you do to nurture or show off that part of your body this week?
I've always liked my legs. They're thin and smooth. It's too cold for shorts this week, but maybe I can squeeze in a pedicure after payday on Thurs! If nothing else, I'll try to remember to lotion them every day so when it does warm up I'll look better in the shorts! Disney is less than 2 months away, and I'm sure I'll be wearing lots of shorts that week!

I made homemade ice cream cake for DD's party yesterday. I used a regular cake mix, but split it between a 9x13 pan and an 8x8 pan. Then I used 1 container of light ice cream and split between the 2 pans also. I haven't tried to figure out the WW points yet, but I know that 1 piece has less points than a piece of cake with ice cream on the side would have because the cake is thinner and it's less ice cream than I would normally take too. It did take a whole can of icing for just the 9x13 pan because it was hard to spread with the ice cream trying to melt on me, but I didn't eat the icing anyway. We used the 9x13 at yesterday's party, and will use the 8x8 either tomorrow for her actual birthday, or Sunday when my parents come for dinner.

I did my Windsor Pilates DVD yesterday and today, and then had to go buy an exercise mat because my tailbone hurt so bad from rocking on the floor! I hadn't done that DVD in forever, but I'm trying to vary my exercise so I don't get too bored.

Did well all day until we went to a local ice cream place and i treated myself to clam strips and onion rings as well as a little bit of orange chocolate chip ice cream. My parents are visiting and wanted to take us out to supper. It was really yummy but I owe myself to be extra good tomorrow. I went up a bit over the weekend with eating out at the Dismeet on Saturday. But it was well worth it meeting other Disers so if I just stay the same this week I will be happy. I will get my 2 mile workout in before heading to work. I have a 75 minute hot stone massage to give and then I'll come home and do some Wii Fit and maybe the 3 mile WATP! And drink tons of water.
I am proud that I have cut down to one can of diet soda a day. I don't drink coffee so that's my caffeine and I'm not having any withdrawal issues. I've been drinking lots of water and some Crystal Lights and I had an unsweetened iced tea at Dunkin this morning and just added some Splenda.
Hope everyone had a great Monday!

Wow - I just finished reading about 15 pages on this board! This is what happens when you're gone for over a week! We had an amazing time on our cruise and the Magic is fantastic!

Congratulations to all the BLs!!! There are some amazing losses on here! I lost the first week - but after a week on the Magic - I've gained about 4 lbs.:sad1: Thankfully, I'm excused from weigh-in until Friday. I'm back OP and hopefully can lose some of my cruise weight and post only a minimal gain or maybe a maintain by the end of this week. Keeping my fingers crossed!

Okay - have a lot of catching up to do on QOTDs --

Friday (9/19)- List the top 5 things that you have always wanted to learn how to do or know more about.
  1. Learn to play the guitar
  2. Learn to play the violin
  3. Improve my photography skills - have a nice DSLR and don't use it to its maximum potential.
  4. Take Latin dance classes - Samba, Mamba, Salsa, etc
  5. Learn more about Slovakia - where I was born

Saturday (9/20) What are your favorite go to breakfasts while losing weight or maintaining
I'm pretty predictable here - I eat 3/4 cup serving of Special K Vanilla Almond with 1/2 cup nonfat milk pretty much every day.

Sunday (9/21) Besides Disney, where is someplace you would like to vacation at?
Bucket list includes: Europe - going to cover parts when we go on Mediterranean cruise in April. Hope to get to London during that trip as well. I've visited Slovakia and Austria - would love to go back and take my kids. Really want to travel the US - I haven't been farther west than Pittsburgh, PA. Really want to get to Hawaii and to Australia. There's at least a dozen more places - but those are the top ones on the list!

Monday (9/22) What are some of your go to lunches that you fix at home or take to work when you're rushed for time and don't have leftovers or something to pull out quickly?
  • lean cuisine frozen meals
  • low fat yogurt and a Kashi Dark Chocolate almond bar (has both protein and fiber so it's filling)
  • Salad with feta cheese and 1 cal. per spray raspberry vinegrette dressing.

Tuesday (9/23) What's your favorite season and why?
Spring and Fall. Spring b/c I'm usually ready for warmer weather. Not that we have it rough in NC - but it can be quite cool in Jan. and Feb. And, Fall b/c by Sept./Oct., I'm definitely ready to shut off the A/C and open windows.

Wednesday (9/24) What are your favorite books that have to do with health and dieting
Hmm, don't have any. Not typically something I would read - but might try some of the ones that have been recommended on the board. If I'm looking for diet/health information I tend to pick up magazines like Prevention, or I go out on the internet.

Thursday (9/25) What is your favorite healthy dessert?
Not sure how healthy - but sugar free ice pops are my go to dessert when I have to have something "sweet". But, if I'm looking for something creamier - then a 1/2 cup of Edy's Slow Churned Mint Chocolate Chip is what I crave!

Friday (9/26) Ah, the vagaries of the scale. It goes up and down. If there were no gravity and therefore no weight, only mass, how would you measure your success? Tell us your favorite or most anticipated Real Life Victory?
Measure success - by how I feel and how my clothes fit. I noticed that when I'm really working the program - which includes exercise - I just feel better - my abs feel tighter - my clothes are looser and I just feel more confident overall. As for my anticipated RLV - being 30lbs. lighter by my next cruise in April!

Saturday (9/27) What makes or would make physical activity more enjoyable for you? This can be a thought process, a particular song or songs, special clothes, choice of activity, etc.
Bonus: What physical activity do you have planned for yourself and/or your family this weekend?

As for the first part - I find working out to music which is upbeat really makes me work harder and I feel like I've gotten something accomplished. Bonus: Well, we spent Saturday at Typhoon Lagoon - swimming, walking from slide to slide, and riding many of the different slides throughout the park. We followed this up with a walk in and around Downtown Disney! Sunday - not so active - 9 1/2 hour drive back home :sad2:

Sunday (9/29) What part of your body do you like right now? What can you do to nurture or show off that body part this week?
My eyes - they're very blue and I've always received compliments on them. Guess I could wear a little more makeup to bring them out more.
My cheekbones - they're nice and high. Now, I just need to lose more weight so that they are more visible.

Okay - I must have either missed a QOTD or I've gotten my days mixed up - because I don't have anything for today :confused3 But, it's late and I've read over 15 pages of this board since this morning :woohoo: and I'm not about to go back to look for where I messed up - so my apologies.:goodvibes

Glad to be back! Now, I'm off to bed and determined to work in some exercise into my day tomorrow.:thumbsup2

Oh man, I've fallen behind! It's been quite a weekend and Monday - I was helping with school pictures today. Lots of fun, but there went the morning. Then a quick 3 mile run in the wind this afternoon. Followed by more kid and homework wrangling - why is it so difficult? There has been so much I have wanted to respond to over the past day or so, though, so I am just going to jump right in!

After the movie tonight I went to Ross to get a new bra- some of mine are getting too loose- remember I also went off the pill. Found one then decided to walk over to Barnes and Noble and had to walk by Catherines. I remember almost walking in there once thinking-- well I'm finally there.

Is Catherine's a plus size store? I had never heard of it. I am in the same boat with the new bra - I don't know whether to cheer or cry!

just found 2 pair of 18 capris in the basement, which fit, but it's sad because I thought I'd never go back. My first nsv goal is for the 16s to fit. I am also working hard on exercising regularly, and when i do, I love that my knees don't ache when I walk upstairs, and I don't get so winded out running and playing in the yard with my son. I don't think I'll ever keep up with him in a race anymore, but it's nice to try, and not die at the end.

It's so hard to be back in clothes you hoped never to go back to. I know you'll be back in those 16's soon, especially with your more regular exercise. Being able to play with our kids - that's what it's all about, isn't it?

I am down .6 for this week. I am starting to get back into walking this week so it is a start.

Hooray for your loss! I would love to see a picture of the scarves or quilt when they're done.

I already did my TM workout this morning -- I did 5 miles and it felt great! I feel confident I have a nsv -- I'm down to 13 min miles. This is huge for me, I could barely handle 16 when I started (and that was walking, not running)! Tomorrow I'm going to do weights.

I only lost .2 this week, so that's a big discouraging. I'm determined to have a bigger loss next week, and I'm going to conduct myself accordingly this weekend. ::yes::

Woo hoo, Maria!!! You're getting faster! -.2 is still a loss. Don't get discouraged, just keep taking good care of yourself. You are getting stronger and faster!

Bonus - My kids don't know this yet but it is cleaning up the back yard. We have an apple tree that has droped a lot of apples on the ground that need to be picked up.

What a fun activity! Did you make something fabulous with all those apples?

This weekend - Sis and I are going to ride the horses three times, some times they get put aside for other things, but not this weekend!

That sounds fantastic! I hope you had a wonderful bunch of rides!

Music makes all the difference for me. I found, in tracking my walks on RunningAhead.com, that I average a full minute per mile faster on the days I remember to take my mp3 player than on the days I forget it.

That is amazing! And how great that your new neighborhood is so much better for walking. Hope you had fun at the Ren Fest!

Just a quick note to say I lost 3.1 pounds this week. I think it was mostly due to having the flu and not eating much for two days. I didn't exercise for three but really stepped it up the last three days. Hopefully this momentum will keep up and I'll have another loss next week. I really want to drop another 9.6 during this challenge to reach my initial goal.

Steve, I'm glad you're feeling better now. That was a huge loss for the week! That goal should be very reachable for this challenge - we still have plenty of time left.

For the bonus - I went to the pool and swam today while the girls were in their lesson. I swam 15 lengths instead of the 12 I did last time.:cool1:
When the girls lesson was over, we stayed in the big pool, and there was some of the foam handweights out, so I was able to get some good arm exercises done while the girls played;

Unfortunately, we ended the morning with Kaleigh getting her nose smacked with her friends head

I love the way you find opportunities to be more active with your kids and around what your kids are already doing! I hope Kaleigh is feeling OK now - that same thing happened to one of my kids last year and it bled so long I finally took him to the emergency room. He was OK, but they reminded us to monitor for head injury symptoms.

We loved the train and the preview! We waited about 1 hr and 45 minutes but it was worth it and only had to wait to see the preview for about 5 minutes. The girls really enjoyed it and we got to see the carolers while we waited!

It sounds like such a fun meet! I really miss Massachusetts this time of year. So glad it was worth the wait for you. :)

I mentioned as part of the QOTD that I was planning on getting a couple new in home walking DVD's....well, imagine my surprise when I find them both at Walmart today!!

Score! A new workout DVD can really make things fun again. I have a couple where I know every word the woman says, including the things she says wrong - "I want that blub to pump to your hands" for instance. I hope you've been enjoying the fresh material!

Well if it involves shopping. Mind you the kind of shopping I do is generally not aerobic but sometimes when I'm just out in the area I'll stop by Costco or Target and speedshop the clearance stuff at Costco (anything ending in .97) and produce and speedshop the endbases at Target. I am a shark at Target, catching any red labels on the aisles as well. This form of shopping at Target is usually on the way to my steward meeting when I only have about a half an hour between work, dinner and the meeting.

What a clever idea! Target does tend to hide their clearanced stuff a bit don't they! I bet you really fly through those stores!

Right now I love seeing the colours and the crispness of fall, with my musical pumping and dog running beside me. :)
Cleaning the house all weekend; that is a workout, right?

Yes, yes it surely is! You make the fall sound so wonderful!

I
ITA, corinnak, in the real world we just can't do the same things or get the same results as the biggest losers -- the 1200 calories is doable probably -- but burning 6000 calories a day? Wow! That would be a full time job!

It seriously would! The thing that would concern me most is - when do they recover? I mean, the hours that you'd be working out aside, what about muscle soreness and fatigue? I know we don't see the structure of their whole week, but it does seem just exhausting.

QOTD 9/26:

I rearrange my bedroom a little and turn my tv so I can see it while on my treadmill. I figure if I'm going to watch a certain show either way, I might as well do it while I'm on there.

A great point - sometimes we make such a big thing about changing and "working out" but just strolling while you watch TV (or getting a real workout, too!) can be beneficial.

I lost 3 pounds this week. I now weigh 192 pounds. I have lost a total of 14 pounds. Now this may seem a bit of an odd number to get excited about to some of you, but over here in the UK, we work our weight out in stones and pounds. A stone is 14 pounds, so I have finally lost my first stone. I have never managed to lose this much ever before. It has really made me feel like I can do this. I want to lose about 5 stones (70 pounds) in total and I am now one fifth close to that goal!!

Welcome back!!! And congratulations on losing your first stone! I always think it is a great sounding system of measurement - what sounds heavier than a stone?? A fantastic loss this week - I can not wait to hear about your losing the next 4 stones!

Am having a good weekend went to a wedding -did indulge in a small slice of cake when I found out the bakery - it is my favorite in the area. so I had salad, veggies, and chick for dinner -my trade off of carbs!

Congratulations on your great loss last week! Great work on the wedding cake - you chose the thing you really wanted and made a trade-off for something else you didn't want as much! That's what it's all about!!

to eating right ( I refuse to call it a diet) and exercise this week. Hey I have to be able to walk around WDW in December. I have a DATW to keep up with.

Kim, Cleaning out the closet is a daunting task, for sure. I love how you call it "eating right" and not a diet. Eating right is for always!

I am so happy it is a new week! Dealing with my Grandpa's funeral this last week has left me physically and emotionally exhausted! :guilty:

Molly, I'm so sorry about your grandfather. Grief is exhausting in itself and it takes a while to work it all through. I'm glad you're planning to take good care of yourself this week.

Alright, going to do another run for Cto5K... I think I might actually be okay moving on to week 2. We'll see. Haven't been eating horribly, but not incredibly well either. Let's see how it goes! Saw another little loss on the scale this morning. I heard that people who weigh themselves everyday lose more, but I've also heard the opposite, and that people should only weight themselves once a week. Wondering what you all think... "weigh" in on the topic! (I apologize for the horrible pun. hehehe)

Piglet - I think the most amazing thing about C25K is when you find that your body has taken what you did in the previous week and prepared you for the next week.

I do weigh myself most days, but can see where daily weighing can be depressing or frustrating. The weight goes up and it goes down and it goes up again. I have noticed some interesting patterns, though, watching it on a daily basis - I always retain water after a strenuous strength workout or big race. Also, My weight goes up by at least a pound within 24 hours of starting TOM. If anything, it is comforting for me to see that when the scale goes up a little, it's not necessarily an indicator that I've done something wrong and that it does eventually go back down on its own if I just keep eating right.

Hope its not to late to join in. I have really been wanting to start working out and watching what I eat but it only last a couple days. I am hoping that this helps and keeps me going. I am a mom of 4 and work full time. I am at 151.5 and need to get to 130. 2 years ago I was at 160 got down to 135 then have gained it all back. Love this site and can't wait to check MOn. I think having others to talk with daily if I need to will help lots!

Welcome, taragarza! I'm so glad you've found the challenge! It sounds like you've got a busy, busy schedule, but hopefully you'll find what so many of us have grown to rely on here - the daily support and the accountability of the weekly weigh in can work wonders.

If in the future - for a change of pace - Jillian Michaels' own DVDs do not require coordination. It's all old school - more boot camp - and not footwork based.

Trust me. I'm laughing. It's strange to me. I'm a good dancer but once you throw in ANY set steps - ummmm I'm done. :lmao::rotfl::lmao:

You would think one comes with the other. :sad2::laughing:

 I'm not even a good dancer! I have the "shred" DVD and like it a lot except for the jumping jacks! It doesn't help that she makes a point of saying that 400lb people can do them....I just jog in place cause sorry, Jillian, I am not going to do something that makes my knees hurt like jumping jacks just do. :sad2: Have you tried some of her other DVD's? Do they all have....you know....jumping jacks?

No. They are more like low-impact aerobics for the uncordinated ;)

It seems like a lot of us are fans of the Leslie Sansone DVD's! I actually picked one up sometime last year but haven't tried it. I think I had it in mind that DH might like it. :)

As I was carrying DD back from the bathroom, I slipped and fell. I managed to hang on to DD, but my left arm went into the shelf of wine glasses. I thought everything was okay, until I pulled my arm out. It looked pretty terrible, but after cleaning up, only needed 4 band-aids. It feels silly, but the drama completely wore me out! I suppose it was the last straw after this week.

Oh my gosh - this sounds so scary. I'm not surprised that you were drained after that. Take good care of yourself this week - it sounds like you're in quite a whirlwind.

I've really been enjoying reading about everyone's favorite parts! I didn't post a lot of justification for the question this morning, but the idea is that if you focus on the things you like, it will get you in the habit of taking care of and loving your body. Plus, you know the song: "Accentuate the positive." It comes before "Eliminate the negative."

I could try walking around without my glasses but would be black and blue from running into things. :lmao:
:rotfl: Careful! Your eyes do sound like they are a beautiful color!

I am determined to get a workout in, walk the dog (hoping we don't blow away - 40 mph winds today!). I also have a sick dd but she can stay in alone for 1/2 hour...right?? She's 11 1/2. (the guilt is starting already for wanting to go for a walk)

I bet a lot of your gain is from the big change in food choices over the weekend. Do you know how much water five pounds? 10 cups - not that much, right? I bet a lot of it is water and you'll feel better in a few days as you're recovering from the tailgating. And absolutely, I'd think your DD could stay by herself while you went for a quick walk. Did you make it out today? The wind has been nuts here as well!

Not really a body part but I have been making sure to take care of my skin again - washing my face and using my products, and using lotion. My skin feels so wonderful and smooth that I really feel like I'm doing something good for myself.

Skin is absolutely a body part! Your plan sounds like a good one, especially as the weather is changing and becoming ever drier.

And I'm tired already for today, since I didn't go to sleep early, slept poorly, and got up at 4:40am to book cruises for 2011. But I'm happy that we got the LA to Vancouver repo, and the first alaska cruise.:cool1::woohoo:

I am so glad you mentioned this - I had forgotten this was today! So glad you got what you wanted and I hope that you get a better nights sleep tonight!

I like my collar bones - which I can actually see for the first time in forever!

Hooray for collar bones!

I've been doing kinda bad on the cows. I've gotten the water one down and the 5 minutes to myself every night after I put my girls to bed but the others are proving to be a bit harder. Flossing isn't hard but it's not somthing I normally do so it's not routine yet. And weekend are kinda here and there so I don't always get my veggies in. I'll keep trying harder!

I couldn't say it better about the QOTD than Maria did, so I'm going to say something about this. :) It sounds to me like the COW is working for you, even if you don't feel like you're working the COW as hard as you want to be. The fact that you are getting the water and the 5 minutes is huge. HUGE! The fact that you're thinking about flossing when it's not routine for you - also huge and more than you were doing before. And I'll bet you're getting more veggies than you were before. That is a LOT of progress!

Yesterday I was looking in the bathroom mirror and thought " gee, I look pretty good"
That's not a thought that I have very often, unfortuately, so I was very happy!

I got my first silver hairs at 18. I thought it was cool for a while, but now that I'm in my 30's....not as cool. Thank goodness for the demi-permanent dye!

I love that you thought to yourself that you look pretty good! It's the wave of the future. :)

This week, I'm going to make it a point to actually do a manicure (I just never get to this), so I can enjoy my hands and the new nail polish I bought myself for meeting my last 5 lbs goal. Still slogging away at this 5 lbs...and it is going ridiculously slow! I guess I should just be happy I haven't gained over the last goal :scared1:

Maria, your manicure sounds FABULOUS. I am starting to think that the next 5 pounds aren't leaving because you haven't kept your promise to the previous 5 pounds to do that manicure. What do you think? ;)

I hope to update you with something I'm loving about my body soon!

I bet something will present itself as your new favorite part soon. Sometimes it takes a little while to realize what it is, but there are wonderful things about your body, regardless of its size, shape or condition.

Here's a question for you WW pros --

I've been counting hummus as a veggie --is that right, or should it be a protein?

Thanks!
Maria :upsidedow

Maria, I agree with Pam that it's a protein. And delicious. :) But can add up fast in many cases. It's that tahini, I think. Plus chickpeas are one of the more caloric of the beans. I have seen hummus recipes made with navy beans, I think, that are a little lower in points. I love the chickpeas anyway, though. :)

I think I like my legs the best, because I have worked so hard to tone them. I also like that I can see the muscle definition. :woohoo:

I seriously need to work on my middle. It has too much flab and makes me feel uncomfortable. I am looking forward to getting it toned and awesome.:yay:

It's so great when you can see the results of your hard work! I think you and I are not alone in feeling that the middle is the most difficult area to work into shape. That seems to be the last, greatest holdout of excess on a lot of people. How amazing will it be when it's toned and awesome, though! Do you have a particular workout or plan for getting it there?

I know there are not a lot of pictures on this site but we had DISer's from the W.I.S.H. boards with DIS Unplugged Podcast people. It was a great time IMO, great weather, great people and Tracey (Tigger813) reminded me about the veggie requirements for this weeks COW.

Thanks for sharing the pictures! That restaurant food looks Delish!

As far as parts that I've seen change due to diet, that would definitely be my face/neck. I look like a completely different person (and that's a good thing). I've also lost 2" around my thighs and calves which are looking better than they have in a long time.

How wonderful to see such a dramatic change in your appearance! 2" from the legs is major terraforming!

I like my hips and my upper arms. Both went down BIG time when I originally started working out in December. Showing off my arms today with a sleeveless top while I can!

Way to get the last bit of sleevelessness out of the summer!

I found one that is a bit lower in points... I'll check it out when I get home and let you know which it was.............P

I would love to know what kind this is as well - I make it myself sometimes, but it is nice to be able to buy something that works as well.

I love my big, blue eyes. I have very long lashes which makes them look even bigger. I always look better in eye makeup but don't wear it every day. I can just barely tolerate organic mascara -- everything else makes my eyes hurt. Tomorrow I have a big meeting so I will suck it up and wear some eye makeup.

 I have a hard time with mascara as well and never wear it. There is something about that stuff, isn't there? Enjoy your fabulous eyes tomorrow!

Thanks! I'm eating single serve portions of Sabra Hummus. I pick up a package of them at BJ's. It's 4 pts for the container. I have that with grape tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers. I also have a Nature's Promise yogurt for dessert (2 pts), and Eat Smart veggie crisps (2 pts). It's an 8 pt lunch. I feel nicely full, so I hope that's an ok lunch :confused3

That sounds like an amazingly good lunch. It's got it all, and nice fresh foods, too!

Just had to post that I went for my walk  my sick dd actually told me to go and that she will be fine:goodvibes and I'm very proud that I did. Thanks for the encouragement!!

Hooray!

I bought a new pedometer yesterday and I am already on 5000 steps for today. The old one was too thick. This new one is a skinny one. It is about the size of a thick credit card. My last one kept resetting itself. I would look and see 3200 steps and when I checked an hour later it was at 800 steps. This new one has a flatter button for restting.

Someone mentioned a crazy week that she was going to have. It must be the week for it. Even though it is a 4 day week it will seem much longer. Tuesday is fine. Wednesday we have an hour of inservice (admin is trying this) so the day will be crazy. Thursday I have regular classes but at night we have back to school night so I have to go through my schedule all over again. The only good thing is that I don't have a last period class so I can get out before the crazy traffic starts. Then we finally hit Friday.

So glad that you've got a better pedometer now - it sounds pretty cool and very small!

Good luck with the rest of your week - it sounds just manic!

Anyway, for the QOTD: Um, I love my eyes, because they are all different colours, and I will show them off by getting enough sleep so they aren't dwarfed by the huge dark circles that continuously frame them!

:rotfl: Sounds like a good plan! But challenging with the busy week you've got coming up...

Saturday QOTD: What makes or would make physical activity more enjoyable for you?
How about instant results?:rotfl2: Well, that would certainly give me more motivation! I think the music I listen to while exercising makes it enjoyable, or a beautiful day if I'm riding my bike.

I love it! Instant results would be ideal, I agree! Your ice cream cake sounds really tasty!

It was really yummy but I owe myself to be extra good tomorrow.

What a great way of looking at it! So often we tell ourselves we deserve to eat something that we really like, but the flip side of that is that you then owe it to yourself to be careful afterward as well. Very smart!

Great job on cutting back the caffeinated beverages!

Welcome back, Tink! That was a lot of QOTD to get through at once! I'm impressed! Your trip sounds like it was wonderful. How nice you have another to look forward to and anticipate your potential weight loss for!

9/29 QOTD: It's important to find new ways to make our foods flavorful and interesting without adding a lot of calories. One of the best ways to do this is with herbs and spices. Do you have a favorite herb, spice or other seasoning?

The spice that gets the biggest workout at my house is definitely the cinnamon. I also enjoy adding Kombu, a type of seaweed to lentil soup. It is supposed to make the legumes more digestible and also adds a delicous savory flavor Mmmm.

good morning folks...i have been absent for the past few days with just busy days. this morning was a bittersweet farewell bid to the Spanish exchange student that has stayed the past 2 1/2 wks. with that though....it will be easier to eat better once the remaining baked goods and such are eaten up! She wanted to try all kinds of American dishes, goodies, etc; I love to cook/bake so I really enjoyed making things for her try.

reading the latest posts has me energized and motivated today! that and yesterday I had a routine check with my Dr. 2 weeks ago had a cholestrol and glucose labs done and my results were very good! he said my 'good' cholestrol is 17 pts higher than the recommended for females and bad cholesterol was under 200. i think it was 183

QOTD -- cinnamon here alot too. I also like cumin, though haven't used much lately. I like to try different blends too -- sorry that was not really definitive ...lol

My favorite herb is cilantro. I love the kick it gives our food. :cool1:

I did my 5 mi on the TM this morning. I think I'm set up for a good loss this week, I just have to hold it together and not blow it! I have yoga at work at lunchtime, and I plan to do weight while I watch BL. I am really looking forward to BL, it seems like a little stretch of "me" time :cutie:

I'm really close to changing my points for WW, so I'm going to try to cut back by 1 pt/day for the rest of the week. I have a vague memory of that being a strategy so it isn't so hard when you have to move to fewer points. This is the point where I always eat a bunch of stuff I shouldn't because mentally I can't get over this hurdle. Well, it used to be. This time I am going full throttle! pirate:

Good morning. It's been a stressful week for me. My cousin lost her battle with lung cancer on saturday, and the wake is tonight, and funeral tomorrow. Her sister died 6 weeks ago, and an old friend of mine died 2 weeks ago. They were all in their 50s, and it is a very overwhelming time for me right now. When my friend died, I had just restarted ww, and I did really well staying in control and not comforting myself with food. On sunday morning, I baked brownies, and 5 batches of cookies. I guess it was stress baking. I brought some over to my aunt, and the rest to work, but did eat lots too. Not beating myself up at all. trying to take it one day at a time. My goal for the rest of the week is to get through tomorrow, and get back on track thursday. Pjlla- your words in june keep coming back to me- I can't control what has happened, but i can control how I react to it. Reading through the thread really does help to inspire me, and to motivate me to get back on track. I'll pack a good lunch for work today, and I'll try to do the wii free step as I watch the bl tonight.

Bill- thanks for posting the pics. I only took some of michael on the train. I wish I had taken more. Next time.

For the qotds- my hair is my favorite part of me. I have a nice cut, and I color it myself but I'm lucky to have thick hair.

Not very adventurous with the spices, but tend to add salsa to lots of foods to spice them up. Love newman's pineapple salsa.

Have a good day everyone.

Good morning.

I don't use a lot of spices but I use garlic in almost everything. I'm trying to go away from that so I don't get so much sodium. Is there a lower sodium garlic salt out there like Mrs. Dash or something?

I started a weight loss blog (again) yesterday. It will more than likely be BO-RING but if you'd like, go ahead and check it out. I'll post it in my siggy. I had a blog for my family but later deleted it and made a blog about my girls only. Then I added a weight loss blog and it didn't go very far. I did lose some weight and posted some before and during photos but I just stopped it like everythign else. I decided not to restart that one but to start fresh and just delete all the others. This time I'm trying to go about things a whole new way all around.

Does anyone else have the problem with it posting double? Can I delete one? I onlt hit the post quick reply button once so I'm not sure why it randomly happens to me. Sorry.

QOTD 9/30: SPices

We've been using the Mrs. Dash sodium free on more things lately. I put it in some corned beef I put in the crock pot and man it was soooo good! I only ate a bit though!
My favorite spice lately has been chipotle and I always love garlic.

Did the 2 mile workout and then I have to give a 75 minute massage this morning (that's a good workout) and then I will come home and do the Wii Fit and maybe take a walk around the neighborhood listening to some fast paced tunes!

mikamah - I'm so sorry to hear of your recent losses. I think treating yourself with a little "comfort baking" is more important right now than calorie counting. My thoughts are with you

I love coriander but sis does not so I have taken to adding a little seasoned Japanese rice wine vinegar to soups, stews. It actually makes things taste "saltier" for some reason, which is nice since I no longer use salt.
We also use dried kale in everything possible.

I loved the one with the piece of brocolli. Always think about the COW.

I kind of wish I was going on the Alaska cruise. DH is just starting to think about going on a cruise and we debated if we wanted to sign up for it. It was just too far out to think about 2011. We are still thinking about 2010 vacation.

I wish you could go on one of those cruises, too, donac! It would be great if some more WISHers were going. :goodvibes

Ummm, I think it is 9/29 today -- I'm usually the one who mixes up dates!

I love red pepper flakes. We add them to soups, stews, pasta sauce and, of course, pizza. We like that zip!

Kathy, a big  to you. I am so sorry for your loss. I will keep you and Michael in my thoughts.

Still doing mega housecleaning for MIL visit on Friday. It's not that the house was super dirty, it just is one thing leads to another. Must be getting a little tired of it because I was thinking "why do I have to clean for longer than they are visiting?!?" Oh well, I've had some good activity points out of it.

Have a great OP day all!

mikamah- I am also sorry to hear of your losses. I lost my Grandpa suddenly last week, so I understand. My thoughts and prayers are with you. :grouphug:

As for the QOTD, I like using different spices, depending on my mood. Once I find a spice I like, I try and find lots of recipes that go with that spice.

I am also very excited to get back on track after all the funeral stuff last week. I exercised yesterday and I am going to today also. It feels good to move. :yay:

Have a Magical Day!!!! pixiedust:

 Woops! Here is how it happened: I was up late last night and decided to post the QOTD before I went to bed. And so I looked at my watch which said 9/29 and thought "oh, but this is for tomorrow" so changed the date to 9/30! Little did I know that it was already tomorrow! :faint:

Spices that I tend to use the most are garlic, red pepper flakes and Mrs. Dash Garlic Herb blend.
