Biggest Loser 8 Fall Challenge -- for losers and maintainers!

Monday's Question of the Day:
What motivates you on your weight loss journey?

My original motivation was to be below 200 for my daugher school band trip to Disneyland. But as I started to lose the weight, that in itself became continued motivation. Getting complimented on the weight loss helps to.

After regaining some of the weight I lost my new motivations are to fit back into my clothes (pants) and to just feel better about myself.

anut4disney - great job getting the walking in at the pool:thumbsup2

airtime247 - that's fantastic improvement in your health!

disneychrista - did you enjoy your daughter's bandtrip? I'm sure you'll be fitting those pants again soon. :goodvibes

okay, here comes Monday's Question of the Day:

What motivates you on your weight loss journey?

I have lots of reasons

1. I want to feel confident in myself again. Right now I hate how I look and I am always feeling self-conscious about whether or not people are judging me on my weight. I know I shouldn't worry about that but I do.

2. I want to be able to participate in active activities without running out of breath two minutes into them.

3. I want to be healthier. I am studying to be a nurse and how can I lecture people on living a healthy lifestyle if I myself am not.

4. I used to love clothes shopping and now I hate it because none of the clothes that I like will actually fit me. I want to be able to go shopping again and be able to try on that cute dress I saw on the window and have fun doing it.

Different things at different times --what is motivating me most right now is my desire to not come in after my SIL at the WDW Half. She is a trim size 8, but she does not walk or run at all. She's never done a race, but took one look at me and decided if I could do it, she certainly could. I'm sure she can, and I do want her to, but I don't want to finish after her. I feel like I train year-round, so that has to count for something! I need to lose some weight so I can ensure I have a good finish. The less I weigh, the faster I can go. I've been flirting with 13 min miles, and I'd really like to make them a reality before January. Even having a PR (personal record) will mean a lot to me, but not seeing the rest of the family that's racing waiting for me at the finish would be good.

I also want to do it for my health, clothes shopping, and a trip dh promised me, but right now, it's good old competition driving me, even if I'm the only one who knows there's a race!

Definition - Motivation is the activation or energization of goal-oriented behavior. Motivation may be internal or external. The term is generally used for humans but, theoretically, it can also be used to describe the causes for animal behavior as well. According to various theories, motivation may be rooted in the basic need to minimize physical pain and maximize pleasure, or it may include specific needs such as eating and resting, or a desired object, hobby, goal, state of being, ideal, or it may be attributed to less-apparent reasons such as altruism, morality, or avoiding mortality.

I have a couple.

1. I have seen both my grandmother and mother fight weight issues their whole lives. About 4 years ago my mom showed me a picture of herself when she was approximately my current age. I could not believe how alike we really do look. It than occurred to me that if I don’t do something about the struggle with weight, it too would make me unhealthy, diabetic, and self conscience. Now don’t get me wrong I would love to be just like my mom in many, many ways, just not the overweight, unhealthy, diabetic and self conscience parts. It took my husband and I almost a year to lose 80 lbs each in 2006/2007. In the beginning of 2008 I found out we were pregnant (maybe because I looked so good!). I now have about 40 lbs to lose to get back to the weight I was before.
2. I want to be healthy so I can spend time with my 2 DD (5) & (11mo). I want to be able to keep up with them when they start getting socially active with cheerleading, softball or whatever else they want to do.
3. I want to feel comfortable in my clothes. I have the “is she still pregnant” feel about myself, my belly is larger than I would like it to be and it hangs over my shorts/pants, so uncomfortable!
4. My husband is my last motivating factor! Who doesn’t want their husband to look at them at think they are HOT? He thinks that way no matter what I look like, but it makes me feel better about myself if I actually do look hot.

I know everyone has different motivations, but the bottom line is we NEED to do this for ourselves, and for our future. Keep moving, keep drinking that water, and keep having fun living this beautiful life!

okay, here comes Monday's Question of the Day:

What motivates you on your weight loss journey?

For me, there's many reasons:
- I want more energy
- I want be healthy and be a good example for my DD's
- I want to feel comfortable in a bathing suit

If you struggle with staying motivated, I recommend writing down your reasons for starting this journey. Then when you start to struggle go back and read those reasons.
Another technique I was taught is: when you want to eat poorly or not exercise, ask yourself, do I want the cookies or do I want to lose weight. Most of the time, my answer is "I want to lose weight!).:goodvibes

I hope everybody has a great Monday!

My health is the biggest factor. With that comes:

-not frightening people when I take my shirt off at the beach/lake/etc
-wanting to run a road race and the WDW Half
-more energy to finish projects around the house
-more endurance at WDW

Last February I went to the doctor, my weight was way way up, my blood pressure was sky high, I was getting colds constantly. Dr. wanted me on BP meds. I said nfw! Her response was stop drinking soda (Coca Cola and the like), stop with the alcohol :scared1: , stop drinking coffee and start walking/exercising or else. That's my motivation.

My biggest motivator is just looking better all around. Sad that it isn't FEELING better huh, but I'll take that along with it.

I don't want to be the mom that doesn't want to be seen in a swimming suit at the pool. I want to enjoy it rather than be self conscious the whole time.

I want to be able to be comfortable in shorts and tank tops so I don't have to die of heat stroke wearing my jeans and tshirts all sumemr long.

I want more options when shopping. I was 30 pounds lighter 2 summers ago and I looked good in many more outfits than I do now.

I want to get back into my clothes from 2 summers ago. I have so much new stuff I've barely worn cause I gained so quickly and I wear the same things over and over cause nothing fits.

And lastly, even though my hubby says I'm beautiful all the time I really want to feel beautiful when he tells me.

My motivators

I want to be healthy. That is the biggest.
I want the energy and confidance back that I had when I was almost near goal.
I want to fit into my tailor made winter coat.
I want to feel I can rather than someday maybe I will try.

MY biggest motivation is how I look, where it should be my health. I've been overweight since childhood, food was valued very high at our house. I think it was the result of parents who grew up during the depression, but became affluent during the 50's and 60's. That and good genes in our family- we could survive a famine! Sometimes I do feel like I'm addicted to food.
I have been in the BMI obese range for about 10 years, not good. You'd think that would be motivation enough, right? I have hypertension but otherwise feel very good. Thats why they call it the "silent killer":scared1:

Going to WDW last year did motivate me to lose 27lbs and just slip in under 29% BMI. into "just" overweight! Yikes!

So I think going to Disney, looking good is my biggest motivation, I told my sister that we must go once a year to if only help me.:woohoo:

Monday QOTD: What motivates you on your weight loss journey?

1. Competition. I have a friend at work who is doing WW with me, and another girl at work is doing Nutrisystem. They have lost a little faster because they had more to lose to start with, but as long as they keep trying to lose I will too because I won't be the one to quit, and there's no way I'll let them get skinnier than me!

2. I don't want to be the fat mom at the kids' activities.

3. I want to set a good example for my overweight 9 year old. She does tons of physical activity, but is built just like me. I've been yo-yo dieting since I was her age because my mom did it, and I want to just eat healthy and exercise so she doesn't get stuck in the same cycle I did during my teen years.

4. I want to be able to keep up with the rest of my family at WDW. DH is trim and has long legs. I tell him the reason we never got a good "dream" during the Year of a Million Dreams is because the Dream Squad couldn't tell we were a family walking together. We look more like a family of baby ducks following behind each other spread out over 30 feet!

5. I want to look good of course! I love to shop, but haven't enjoyed shopping for clothes in a long time. I've got lots of nearly new clothes in my closet that will probably fit after about 10 more pounds. I bought most of them in 2005, and they're just taking up space right now, but I've already started giving away my 2X tops, and I've had to start weeding out some of the 2005 clothes because they're out of style, so I'm making room for some new stuff when I reach my goal!

I didn't do too bad at the b-day party I went to yesterday. I took a 6-mile bike ride in the morning to earn some activity points. I actually drank all my water because they didn't have any diet soda at the party, so that was my only choice. I had 2 slices of watermelon, a few grapes, a couple strawberries, some yummy apple crisp, a hot dog bun but no dog, and a piece of cake and ice cream. Considering that was my whole dinner I think I did ok, and I didn't feel deprived becuase I had the cake since that's the whole reason I made sure I got my bike ride in. No protein, but I had italian beef for lunch and an egg for b-fast, so the day was ok.

okay, here comes Monday's Question of the Day:

What motivates you on your weight loss journey?

That is a good question.

I am motivated by goals/rewards.:goodvibes

I am motivated to take my weight loss 5lbs at a time.

I will reward myself for each 5 lb lost. :cool1:

I am also motivated to be healthy and get in the best shape of my life.:yay:

I hope everyone has a magical day! pixiedust:

QOTD ~
My motivation is simply feeling better both emotionally and physically -- my whole attitude about life is much more positive when I have confidence in myself, an my personal appearance plays a big part of that.

What motivates me is seeing myself in a mirror now and remembering how I used to be. Also the fact that I want to be healthy again and energetic! That and I'm just tired of being fat!

What motivates me:

1. Need to get my LDL level down!
2. I have a bunch of great clothes that I want to wear!
3. I love hearing people tell me that I look great!
4. My family
5. Working out has become an addiction since Christmas
6. I feel better when I've been working out and watching what I eat!

I've done a BL workout this morning and 30 minutes of free step on the Wii Fit!

I'm on my second large glass of water for the day.

I'm watching Jillian Michael's Master Your Metabolism right now! It was on PBS yesterday. Very interesting.

What motivates you on your weight loss journey?

1. Clothes are getting tight!!
2. My husband and boys are all super fit!
3. Am approaching that 'age' when everyone says it all goes downhill!

okay, here comes Monday's Question of the Day:

What motivates you on your weight loss journey?

Well - had a pretty good weekend. Even though we had friends over for dinner - I still managed to not binge on snacks and wine. YAY ME! I even lost a little weight since Friday - so I'm very motivated by that!

Okay - what motivates me?

  • Definitely seeing the numbers get smaller on the scale.
  • I really want to get healthy. I'd like to get my BMI into the normal range and need to lose a minimum of 14lbs to get there . I've also had a slightly high cholesterol reading in the past couple of years and know that if I don't get this into check my Doctor will probably advocate cholesterol meds. And, I'd rather not go there if I can prevent it.
  • Lastly, I just want to be in better shape so that I can keep up with my very active boys!
Here's hoping everyone has a great week!

Monday QOTD: What motivates you on your weight loss journey?

1. I want to be healthy and feel better. I have other health issues (not related to weight) that I am dealing with and I want to feel better when looking in the mirror or keeping up with the kids.

2. DD8 and DH are both physically fit and thin. DD6 is overweight and I want to help her learn healthier habits by setting a good example.
