Biggest Loser 2009 - Couples 2

I would say the show needs a great new host, more medical information segments, and more usable tips.
1. Like UtahMama?

2. Hey, you already learned the importance of Brita tap water filters. What more do you want? :confused3

I liked Caroline Rhea better than Allie, BUT thought she could stand to lose a few pounds. (Although, I feel badly saying that because both hosts are/were very beautiful and normal-sized) :lovestruc

ITA, Wendy on a host with more than just a celebrity background...maybe someone in the fitness field!!! And that was the one thing I thought was so odd from the first time BL came on....was that Caroline Rhea was not the best role model for the contestants to look at all the time. She was a bit fluffy herself!!!

From disney1990's post!!!

:scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

Nine of the past year's 10 programs with the most product placement spots were unscripted, according to Nielsen Media Research. The winner? NBC's The Biggest Loser, with 6,248 occurrences over the course of the year.

Wow, you guys sure can fill the pages... I posted on around page 3, waited for the first show, watched.. Got busy with RL an now I have 20 some pages to catch up...

Well, Tink, what can I say but that THIS IS A VERY POPULAR THREAD!!!!:surfweb: RL...now what EXACTLY is that??? :lmao:

Yes! I agree. Although representin' your average American lady, she wasn't someone who has a fitness or health background (more role modelish). Caroline is normally really funny, but the in the host role, she wasn't funny at all. Just blah. Same with Allie. Maybe I just want a little humor in my host? One who's lost weight and knows the ropes. I dunno.

Fluffy! LOL. That's ME!

I found this interesting article about reality shows and product placement. The specifically talk about Biggest Loser near the bottom of the article.

The article brings up a good point. Product placement is an advertising strategy resulting from fans DVR/Tivo-ing the program and fast forwarding through the commercials. Geenius! I'm thinking I'll just remain entertained by it and laugh about each product placement with YOU guys! :thumbsup2

Maybe using a past contestant - like Julie, Ali, Michelle -- someone with a personality and could be a real inspiration to the contestants - interjecting some personal experiences/struggles along the way.

Good idea! Really.

As imperfect as the show is, I am SO hooked. :lovestruc

I'd also like to see reunion shows so we can see how they've learned to keep it off. For the contestants, knowing such a show is coming up would hopefully keep them "good".

But Alli did lose weight. She was Bulimic (?) when she was in her teens. And producers on the show (Days) wanted her to lose weight.

They also said she worked out with the contestants all the time.

I still haven't seen the premiere :(. I did get to see the elimination on their website, but it wasn't the same without all the background. I also watched the profiles. I really liked the green team, but it sounds like they are universally unliked. I am wondering if something happened during the premiere that lead to this feeling? I have been stalking NBC's website and iTunes, and they still haven't posted it yet. I even broke my own personal rule and checked out YouTube and no joy. I'm dying to see it. :( That will teach me to oversleep.

Well since Alli isn't showing much and she is due this month. They must have started taping this one right away after the other ones left the ranch which would have been August I think.
Actually, I thought that Alli was showing quite a bit. Enough that I noticed that she was preggers and I knew nothing about it in advance of seeing the show last night.

I like Caroline Rhea better too, but she was too ... I hate to say this ... big ... for the role as the host of BL. It always seemed incongruous that she would have to deal the death blow to people on a weight loss show when she herself could lose more than a few pounds.

I like Tara from the Green Team (the one who stayed at the ranch). She's confident, strong, competitive and sassy. Laura, OTOH, is weak, annoying and whiny. I think that Laura's whininess in conjunction with Tara's inability to handle it in a proper teammate manner bugged people. Laura, to my relief, went home.

But I think this season's twist was MEAN!!!!!!!!!!! Kick them off after one week?! How did that help anyone???? I know it is a TV show, but I thought the goal was to help people get healthy?? :confused3

Yup, I just watched last night (been spending too much time on facebook). Wow, 1st show and I am already turned off. What is the point of couples if there are no couples? Yes, they need to do this own their own and at home, but "that" is not the title of the show.

I never watched when Rhea was doing it and I am not bothered by the Days chick, but I really like this idea better! :thumbsup2

My list of who to root for just went down by one (pink). :sad2: I really prefer people who don't get violent.

Wow, finally caught up! Having to watch on Weds is killing me! But I am being a nice mom and not watching it while DD is at choir.

No, right there with you. I don't care for Allison.

As far as the "twist", I thought it was a jerky thing to do.
Jerky--good word for it. I thiink they have tamed down Allison's script a bit since the season before last. (Remember the snotty comment from Mark about her commentary.) I think she has a hard thing to do, being caring, making constant commentary and not taking sides all at the same time. She has to have some favorites, but she never shows it. I would love to see a past contestant as the host though! That would be something.
At first, I picked my favorite as the silver team, but near the end of the show I changed my mind. The bigger girl (name?), just came across me the wrong way when they were debating on who was going home. She practically blamed the other girl for their loss. And when she said "Our friendship is on the line", that really did it for me. So she seems like a "Vicky" to me.
We didn't like silver at the beginning of the night. And that whole friendship is on the liine....even my kids at 7 and 8 were appalled by that. At this point I am hoping the remaining silver member gets kicked off so we don't have to get Carla back. She could easily be my Vicki. :sad2:

I looked up that Body Bugg thing...it's $250. eek!
Holy crap. No wonder they made it an embedded commercial.
Now, two bloated hours of product placement and idiotic twists. Hey guys, where's your water bottles? Forgot them? Then come over here and I'll fix you up with this $30.00 Ultra Plastic Water Bottle! Don't forget to eat raw veggies, which taste so much better if you first stick them into this plastic Glad Baggie and stick it inside this Kenmore microwave for 45 seconds according to my Timex watch!
:rotfl: You about nailed it there. I was so confused when Jillian asked the orange team if they had their water bottles and they said no. I was like, WTH? HOw dumb that they didn't bring them. And then the whole "come on over here...wink wink." Sooooo obvious.
I missed last season. Can someone give me a quick synopsis out Vicki/Heba and their game playing?

Well let's see here. Vicki was a major game player and you couldn't trust her as far as you could throw her. Heba was a daddy's girl and a....can't say that word on the DIS. Sorry, I can't do it. I seriously disliked both of them so much that I don't even want to think about it. I am sure someone else could do a much better job.

Spoiler potential...

Actually, Jillian said they have seven more weeks to film! She said this was the longest season and had the most twists!

I certainly hope that one of the twists is that all the 9 people that were sent home will be back. How disappointing to be chosen, be on the ranch for one week and be sent back home!!

I'm a Biggest Loser rookie having only see one or two episodes from past seasons. I watched the opener the other night and something didn't seem right to me.

Maybe it is just me but I think I would have been devastated when they announced that 9 people had to leave. Having made the decision to finally lose weight and being lucky enough to get on the show, I would have broken down when they made that announcement.

Was it just me? Were they not as torn up or was I too busy playing chess on the computer and watching at the same time so I missed it? :lmao:

My point is, did they possibly know ahead of time or were they maybe told that they would train elsewhere? I just can't believe they paid for all of those medical tests to boot them off. If the point of this show is to genuinely help people, they missed the mark with that stunt.

Of course, maybe this is normal for the show and I haven't seen enough episodes to pick up on it.
