hello everyone. i am going to universal in about 3 weeks and i was wondering if the rides in the parks accommodate people of bigger girth. thank you very much for your time.

Most of the rides in the park will. On some rides at Islands of Adventure you'll have to use the modified seating, such as on the coasters. The only ride I know that doesnt offer modified seating and is too small for bigger people is Dr. Doom. But i am 6' 275lbs, and fit snugly in it...so shouldnt be too bad.

Hi and welcome to the DIS! Some of the rides will have trial seats outside, in front of the ride so you can test whether or not you'll fit comfortably before waiting in line. These include Dueling Dragons, the Hulk, the Mummy (am I forgetting any rides with trial seats, experts?). Most of the other rides, you won't need to worry about strapping in, except for MIB.

My DH is a big guy, 300 lbs. He is also a coaster fanatic and can ride all of them. If you are looking to ride the coasters, just tell them at the front of the line you need the modified seating. I think they are in the 3rd row. Hope that helps!!

Chest size plays a huge part for Hulk, and DD's. My husband has a very broad chest and even in the big boy seats its very tight. Mummy he is OK.

thank you all very much. i am going in 3 weeks for my honeymoon so i wanted to make sure i was going to have a good time. i went 3 years ago, but really couldnt remember, plus i have put on a couple of extra pounds

Once while embarking on the Hulk some big guy couldn't fit and had to get off. As he left he was saying, "His shoulders were too big..." My son remembers that and laughs quite often. I'm getting dangerously close to not fitting in the Hulk and my son always says, "What's wrong, Dad, your shoulders too big?" When I go for that extra piece of cake and ice cream he'll remind me of my "shoulder problem".

Motherfletcher, you are making yourself sound HUGE! For those who have not had the pleasure of meeting MF in person, he is quite exaggerating his size. :)

My BIL is kind of a big guy, and he had a bit of uncomfort in the regular seats in the Hulk, but he was fine in the modified seats. (In fact, they almost made him get off the Hulk in the regular seat, but he took a deep breath, and they were able to get the harness down far enough. He wouldn't ride again that way though, and can't say that I blame him for that!). For the record, he blamed it on his strapping chest. :upsidedow

Now I am beginning to worry if I will fit or not. I wear size 48 pants and as Motherfletcher said I have large "shoulders"

>Chest size plays a huge part for Hulk,

I'm a female with a 44' bust (or, erm, shoulders!) and I couldn't pull the Hulk restraint down far enough to click on myself (regular seats). A castmember (or whatever they call them) came over and threw her weight into it, it clicked, and off we went.

And I do mean off we went! :scared1:

Ok at first I was joining in on the jokes but now I am really starting to worry after seeing another thread some where else about size.I weigh about 300 pounds and wear a size 48 in pants.Do you think my size will be a problem if so I guess I better start starving now or my grandson will be very disapointed.

sorry micksterlee, but to be honest I dont think you will be able to ride the coasters. :sad1: My brother is a big guy too, and he wasnt able to ride the any of the coasters. He weighs about 300 and is 5'11. If you are really tall though, you might carry your weight differently.

"you might carry your weight differently."

That the key, it all depends and you should try the seats in front first. You may be pleasantly surprised. Waist seems to be more forgiving than chest on these coasters.

I don't know how to put this in a nice way, but there is not all that much room for a large butt on the coasters either.

Oh oh looks like I better hit the special K and salads ! We don t go till June 24th so if I hit it hard I should be able to drop some inches by then.I think like every one says it is the girth not the pounds that will keep me out of the coasters. My 9 year old grandson has his heart set on riding the Mummy and the Hulk with grandpa and he is coming all the way from Seattle to do it so I have to make it happen.

I can't think of a better incentive! You can do it! ( said in my best Rob Schneider voice) :thumbsup2

Thats a great attitude to have micksterlee! :) It might also help to start walking. I really wish I had known that the first time I went! By the end our trip my feet and legs hurt so bad that I was in tears! Since then, I start walking atleast 3 months before our trip!

Well today I got out the old weight set and started walking on the gazelle and plan to start walking outdoors as well. Now if I can just master those exercises where you pull your knees out from under the table I will be on my way to fitting in those seats.I know what you mean about the walking Disneyfreakk we were at WDW for Christmas of 2005 and I thought my legs were going to give out.It is terrible how most of us have a hard time just keeping our bodies in usable shape, once I hit 50 the tummy started to expand and the muscles started to gel.
