BigDaddyRog -- what's your secret??

The Gong Show....man-o-man, you are DIGGIN DEEP in the bag to raz on me...dont get me wrong, I appreciate the effort....and I thought the Unknown Comic was a genius. No talent, old jokes that werent funny when they were new, I doubt the guy even had an agent....yet, everyone in America knew him..... here we are, probably 30 yrs later, STILL talking about him.

I was partial to the dancing machine Jr.

Jean, Jean, the DANCING MACHINE. I haven't thought about that in years!

:dancer:

Whoa.....can you imagine how sharp we would be if we didnt have these memories of gong show contestants stuck in the back of our brains taking up space. We're stuck with this brain sludge for the rest of our days. Ya know, I saw this movie that was supposed to be based on Chuck Barris "actual life events"...now why someone would waste film on Chuck Barris' life is beyond me...but I figured if they we're stupid enough to make the movie, I had the right to be stupid enough to watch it. It claimed that he was deeply involved with the mafia, and that he was a murdering schizophrenic, among many other completely unbelievable little tidbits of nonsense. But I had to ask myself, "Could this be true?" I mean...how could the gong show have been so succesful without having to threaten to murder someone if they didnt air it in a premium time slot. How did (ahem) "celebrities" like REX REED (tv's first obvious queen-he?), J.P. Morgan, and Rip Taylor....RIP TAYLOR, for gods sake....he made us HAVE TO REMEMBER people like RIP TAYLOR!!!! I dont wanna remember Rip Taylor..but there he is...first door to the left in the back of my mind.
But on the other hand...it sure did beat all this reality tv we have today. I miss Gene Rayburn from The Match Game, he was 70s COOOOOL. Johnny Carson was in the room when MOST of us were concieved, and stayed there till we started to sneak girls into our bedrooms when mom was asleep. When little guys like RADAR from Mash were all we needed to believe in the underdog. When UNDERDOG was a great cartoon and not some awful movie Disney pumps out everyother week. When SPEEDRACER was not only an american hero, but was our first introduction to Japanese Anime. The good old days...just CRAMMED into our memories taking up valuable space that things like our home phone numbers need, our my OWN AGE. It takes me ten minutes to remember my phone number when someone asks...but I know its "2 TALK" on my cell phone. And sometimes I have to actually do mental math to remember my age..."I THINK im 39....wait a minute, I was born in 68, so...", BUT ASK ME IF TOM HANKS WAS AN UNKNOWN ON "BUSSOM BUDDIES" AND I CAN GIVE YOU EXACT DETAILS OF EVERY EPISODE!!!:sad2:

Man, I know Speedracer was a cartoon~but he was HOT!

I dont know what it is, but theres actually a clinical name for people who are amorously attracted to animated characters....Im in love with Jessica Rabbit to this very day. But only an odd looking funny guy named ROGER could land something that hot!!!:lovestruc

I had the reason for watching stupid shows explained to me yesterday. All day we have to deal with serious business and it really stresses and strains the ole brain. Watching stupid tv gives the brain time to relax and unwind. Only takes a few brain cells to understand shows like the Gong Show. Kinda wish they'd bring the Monkee's back. But know at their present age. That was really a dumb show.

Here we come, walking down the street, we get the funniest looks from everyone we meet. Hey Hey we're the Monkee's

Roger.... I'M in love with you!!:lovestruc And that makes me a dirty ol' lady (cause I'm MUCH older than 39) but, what the hell!! Your sense of humor absolutely cracks me up!!

Gene, Gene the Dancing Machine???
That video showed more "Chuck, Chuck, the dancing Schmuck!! :dancer:

I loved the Gong Show!! American Idol is the Gong Show of the 21st Century!:dance3:

Awww, Deb...you're more fun than a barrel of oiled up, drunk prom queens and I love you too!!! Chuck the dancing schmuck...thats hilarious!!!

Ken that theory makes sense to me...any excuse I can conjur up for silliness is good for me.
Some of my favorite 70s shows in no particular order were Faulty Towers, Benny Hill, HeeHaw, MASH, Barney Miller, Alice, WKRP, Welcome Back Kotter, Chico & the man, Sanford & Son, Saturday Night Live, SCTV, Mary Hartman Mary Hartman, Soap, The Muppet Show, The Flip Wilson Show, The Dean Martin Celbrity Roasts, Laugh In, Sonny & Cher, Carol Burnette, and yes....I even liked the Barbra Mandrell & the Mandrell Sisters Variety Show!!! I watched, but didnt know why The LoveBoat, Fantasy Island, Dukes of Hazzard, Baretta, Streets of San Francisco, Starsky & Hutch. Just to name what I can remember off the top of my head..I miss the 70s shows so much. I remember my dad calling us in at 6pm every Sunday night to get our weekly buzz cuts and watching The Wonderful World Of Disney and Mutual of Omaha in B&W (because my dad was too cheap to buy a color tv)while he cut our hair(because my dad was too cheap to pay for haircuts)and mom was cooking at the stove(because my dad was to cheap to take us out to dinner), that was the life....cheap family fun. Maybe thats why I love tent camping so much...reminds me of not having anything and finding ways to have fun anyway. Man, I miss my cheap'ol Dad!!!

The Wonderful World Of Disney and Mutual of Omaha in B&W (because my dad was too cheap to buy a color tv)

My dad was in appliance sales all his life & we didn't get a color tv until a week prior to the moon landing - so we could watch it in color!! It was broadcasted in B&W!! :happytv: Poor dad! (I miss mine, too!)

Actually Rog, you met my DBro, therefore, you met my dad! (Scary  ) He'll tell you that because you met me, you met our mother. (Even scarier :scared1: )

Aw crap, Rog.... the Buckeyes just scored - and the game just started!:sad2:
