Big Thunder Ranch food?

Thanks, that does look really good. I wonder how gf friendly they are? I hadn't planned a sit down meal except for our character meals but all this talk about it closing is making me crave bbq and reconsider
They are extremely gluten-free friendly! My wife has Celiac and eats here every trip. Everything on the main menu is gluten-free except the cornbread, but they bring out gf rolls instead. Really no chance of cross-contamination, they are super careful. Never had room left for dessert though, so have no idea if any of them are gluten-free!

Does anyone have any photos of the vegetarian option?

I'm curious about what the vegetarian option looks like, too. Two of us are big meat eaters and two of us not so much, but we all want to try this place before it closes. I can't believe in all the years we've been going to DL we've never eaten there!

DH and I always say we'll eat here "next time" , and since hearing the news decided to not wait and made an ADR for our September trip. I think the smores bake will be a must too.

We'll be back in December for a week and might go again if it's that good lol.

Does anyone know if you can get a few pieces of the chicken without BBQ sauce on it? I have one kiddo that is VERY picky!

Can someone tell me how the dinner works? Do you pick what you want or just get everything on the menu? There will be 6 of us. Do they just bring enough of everything for 6 people?

Thanks :)

Yes, they bring all the food out (it's an "all you care to eat" restaurant). The only thing extra would be your dessert items.

Official description: https://disneyland.disney.go.com/dining/disneyland/big-thunder-ranch-bbq/
"Tie on your napkin and get ready for some serious eatin’ as heaping helpings of barbecue chicken, ribs, coleslaw, ranch beans and corn bread appear before your eyes. As fast as you can make our vittles disappear, we’ll keep bringin’ ’em till you’re satisfied! At dinnertime, enjoy all this and then some: Smoked sausages and corn on the cob are added to the lineup.

Special vegetarian skewers featuring potatoes, squash, bell peppers, mushrooms and tofu can be requested for the veggie-totaler in your party, and dessert is available at an additional cost. Try the decadent flourless chocolate cake or go the whole hog with a made-to-order family-style dessert such as our warm, gooey deep-dish cookie à la mode or the sinful s’mores bake."

That is fantastic, thank you!

I have never been but reading around the ribs have BBQ sauce but the chicken does not. Some BBQ from the ribs can get on the chicken but they might bring the meat in different buckets if you ask.

Just ate here for my hubby's b day dinner and it was great! Plenty of food, attentive waiters, perfect surprise reveal of the cake we ordered, and just enough room that our rambunctious group of kids weren't terrorizing all of our neighbors. The one thing I thought was odd was that there is no bbq sauce on the meat, and we weren't served any on the side either. The chicken was moist and delicious, the coleslaw was sweet and crispy, and I loved the cornbread loaves. The corn was soaking in a bowl of butter and it was just a bit too salty, but edible. I'd go again, but it looks like I won't get the chance! P.S. they were turning away walk up guests, so I'd recommend making that reservation!

Has anyone tried to get a dessert to go? Our son gets impatient after he has finished eating, and while I figured one of us could keep him amused with the animals while the other one ate, I don't think that will give enough time to eat a dessert as well, especially these! I was thinking we would do a lunch, go back to the hotel for nap time, and while our LO is asleep, relax with a dessert. Now I am wondering if that is possible.

I don't remember there being BBQ sauce on the chicken, but they were kind enough to make a special batch of ribs without BBQ sauce for my picky little one. It took a while, because they made it from scratch, but they were extremely kind and accommodating about it. Love that place and will be sad to see it go.
:(

I've not tried to take the dessert to go (our favorite is the cookie bake and it has ice cream, so it won't travel well), but you can order dessert as soon as you sit down. Maybe ask the server to bring it out as soon as it is ready, so that it'll be on the table when your son is done with the main courses? Otherwise, my guess is that they can help you pack it up to go, but it might not look very pretty when it's all packed up (you'll have to scrap it out of the baking tin into the take-out container).

(If you check out this link to the Parks Blog, you can get a sense of how the desserts are prepared and presented.)

As others have said, the chicken doesn't really have sauce on it per se, but everything is brought together in the same bucket. Here is an example from my last visit. The chicken was on the bottom in this case, so it did end up with some sauce on it because it touched up against the ribs (which aren't really dripping with sauce either). You're best bet is ask for the chicken to be brought out separately. Though it's worth noting that the chicken does have the BBQ rub on it, so it's got color and flavor on the outside (not sure it that would be a problem).

Yes, they'll bring out enough of everything for everyone (I've gone with a group of 11 once and there was plenty of everything). Normally, they just bring you everything on the menu, but if you know there is something you don't want, you can tell your server when they come to get your drink order. Otherwise, they'll just start bringing out the buckets and platters (note that dessert is not included and costs extra, so that you will have to order).

Sometimes they have a recipe flyer at the check-in counter. I know it has the recipe for the rub in it...so if you like the rub, it's worth asking about the recipe flyer after you've eaten!

This thread is great! Thanks for answering most of my questions.

Does anyone know if I can bring in outside food for my picky 5 year old? He won't touch anything on the BBQ menu but the rest of us would like to eat there. I'd probably go get chicken strips and apples from the stagedoor cafe for him.

Does anyone know if one can bring in food from another venue?
My son is a very picky eater. There's nothing he would like at BTR but if we could bring a burger from The Village Haus then my wife and I could indulge in BBQ.
