I've never eaten at Big Thunder Ranch BBQ (gasp!), but it's on my must-do list for this next visit. I've heard such great things about this restaurant from other DIS members over the years that I don't want to miss what may be my last opportunity to try it out. I am assuming it's outdoor dining, but are the tables covered at all? Mostly I'm wondering about what happens if I make a reservation and then it's pouring rain during that time.

Thanks for any tips!
Stephanie

BTRBBQ is my favorite place to eat at DL. A real shame it has to disappear for Star Wars Land. Don't get me wrong. I want SWL to come, but there's a number of other places that could've bit the bullet as far as I'm concerned.

There are large canopies that cover each table. They are mainly there to provide shade during the hot summer days. I would say that they do NOT protect from the rain. So if it's raining (does that even happen in SoCal?), I can't imagine anyone eating there. That's why I'm making two different reservations. With all the talk of El Nino, I'm not taking changes to eat here. And I wouldn't mind eating here twice anyway.

The tables are covered with a fabric canopy, but depending on the angle of the sun you could still be sitting without protection from the sun.

If it is raining they will not open. We were there on a day when it was raining so all reservations were cancelled. We were also there once when it was very cold, but dry and it was open.

This review has photos of the tables and canopy covering:

I didn't realize that they close it for rain. I have reservations for Nov 15th, thinking I might need to make reservations for other nights we are there to be safe. Anyone know what the deadline to cancel reservations is? :)

When you make the reservation it says you must cancel the reservation "1 Day" before to avoid the no show penalty. I asked once if that meant 11:59 pm of the day before the reservation, 24-hours before the reservation, or one full-day before. Guest Services said it meant 24-hours before the reservation (it used to be 11:59 pm, but that language was removed from Disneyland.com's dining website).

I just noticed that as I was reading the terms while making another reservation. I should try reading those things instead of just clicking that I agree. :)

We absolutely love BTRBBQ. It was the first place we ate on our first trip to DL so it holds a special place in our hearts for sure.

When we were there in March with our extended family (13 of us) we had to go to BTRBBQ for dinner. We had such a good time and we all enjoyed the All You Care To Eat part of it. We could all try a bit of everything and get more if need be.

We are so glad that we went on our last trip as we will not get back before it closes forever.

Enjoy!!!!

Thank you for all the replies. I'm glad to know we won't be stuck eating in the rain just to avoid a last-minute cancellation fee. I think we will plan on going for lunch since mid-November al fresco dining in the evening might be chilly!

my BTRBBQ dinner ressies were canceled last December due to rain. I got a text and explanation that I will not be charged for the cancellation.
