Big Thunder Mountain RR

Donald, i am scared of heights also. But, after, i got on soarin. It was ok. I got in the first row. The initial going up is pretty scary. But, just focus on the screen, and the experience. Simply breathaking, in a a good way! I'm most terrified of EE. Simply because of how high the ride goes. I hope i make it! My son, is 12, and it will be our solo trip together, he plans on riding it 3 times. He wants me to do it with him all 3 times. Pray for me. :lmao:

i would just like to point out that BTMR is the fastest Coaster in teh magic kingdom. Space mountain only seems faster because it is dark , but its actualy the tame one incomparison to speed.

But I have been on space mountain with the lights on and trust me its better dark. and you can't see how close you come to those beams in the dark either. thats why there is a maximum hieght restriction.

Space Mountain was the most "scariest" to me, I guess because it was the first coaster I had ridden in like 10 years. I did keep ducking thinking I was going to hit my head on something too :) I think it would be neat to ride with the lights on.

BTMRR was pretty tame IMO, no real drops, just some swaying back and forth...

R&R was my favorite of all, very smooth ride for me.

I think TOT was a disapointment, I thought it was going to be more of a scary thrill, but it seemed much tamer and shorter than I expected.

I am not a big thrill seeker either. I would much rather glide on Peter Pan.
However, I've done Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and Space Mountain!
I ended up riding Space Mountain 6 times in a row! If was a blast. The ride is in blacklight and it maximum speed is 28 mph!
Big Thunder is also a blast. You haven't experienced Disney until you've conquered these rides. Go ahead and ride. You won't regret it!

I'm not a big fan of Rollercoasters but I love BTM. I've never made it on to space mountain yet (will have to do it in October at DLP as I have no choice and I've just discovered that one is side by side.) but BTM is a fantastic ride. I was gutted the year I was pregnant and couldn't ride it.
Slightly OT, but....don't forget, Groovee, that Space Mountain at DLP is not as tame as at WDW. While it is side-by-side seats, you are shot out of a cannon into (basically the same ride system as on RnRC) straight into a corkscrew (or is it a loop?). Either way, SM at DLP has a loop and corkscrew and goes about 45 miles an hour. Just a precautionary warning for you, in case you were expecting the tame version! :thumbsup2

Eek DD age 6 is determined to ride it cos her friend rode the WDW one this summer. May get dh to decide if she'll manage it first.

I'm sure you'll be fine on BTMRR!

I am not a thrill seeker but do go on some of the bigger rides (although occasionally I do not enjoy them!). Splash mountain scares me a little, but I always ride it. ToT terrifies me, but I still ride it. Don't ask me why, maybe I'm just a fruit loop ;)

But BTMRR is TOO tame for me. I ride it, I enjoy it, but it never really seems to do anything! I think you'll be absolutely fine on this one, but maybe watch it a few times, and see how you feel on the day.

i love roller coasters and i like disneys and i would urge anyone to give em a try they are pretty tame, but with that said if you think the drop in potc is truly that terrifying i wouldnt bother with btmrr or space m for that matter with that said i cant wait to ride em all again

I am a big chicken, I too put my feet up to hold myself on POTC and each time think it was nothing. Still do it everytime. I do not like the drop in splash mtn. Rode once as a dare from my father. Will not ride again. I am to afraid to ride space mtn because I have back issues and am afraid of the bumps. BTMRR, I love this ride. The ride is smooth, doesn't hurt my back, small drops here and there. Just a great ride for me the chicken. Now with all that said if you do not like the drop at POTC then I am not sure you would like it. If you did want to step out on a limb, then I would try BTMRR over all of them. Splashs drop is 10 times worse then POTC. Hope this helps. I have enjoyed reading every else advise and thoughts!

Well, almost as soon as we took of, my mom lost it. She hung to my neck so hard I thought she would brake it while screaming STOP! NO MORE, PLEEEEASEEE!!!. This went on for the entire ride.

:lmao: :rotfl2:

I am a card carrying member of Ride Wimps Anonymous! LOL

So, how is the drop in POC? IS it like the one in Maelstrom? I would not dare do SM, because I hate the big drops. I am going to try BMTRR, and ask to sit near the front, since you guys SAY there are no major drops. What I hate is that feeling of falling you get in your stomach. Do you get that on POC or BTMRR?

Marsha

Let me say I am so glad to hear there are others like me. lol
When I was in high school I went with some friends and they made me ride SM! I did not like it and have never been on it again!!! I also "hate" the drop on POC and didn't do this ride for years. It is now my 4 year old grandsons favorite so yes I do it for him. I had never been brave enough for BTMR until last summer. Rode it and LOVED it. No drops just winding turns! You do not get that feeling in your tummy...that is what I hate also. I even rode TT for the first time last year another great ride! I do know I could not take Splash. I can see that drop and would have a heart attack before I got to it! :rotfl2:

My great nephew went with us a few years ago and he hates thrill rides. His mother said he would not ride anything he couldn't see becasue he was afraid we would lie to him...Well, not me!!! So I talked him into riding my "thrill" ride the first day at MK. Off to POC we went. I warned him about the death defying (sp) drop. We got off with him laughing so hard. He said "Aunt Michelle that is a dip not a drop!" Needless to say he didn't even blink to go on a ride if I got in line and rode many that I would not as long as I told him what to expect. He even purchased a POC pin for me from his own money to thank me for getting him on so many rides he would have missed!!! :cheer2:

Now, my DDs want me to ride RNRC and Maelstrom. They say RNRC just goes upsidedown and fast but no drops so you don't get that feeling in your tummy. They also tell me Maelstrom is less of a drop than Pirates...I just don't know if I am that brave. :rolleyes1

RnRC--I would NOT do, but Maelstrom is a neat ride. You don't get that feeling in your stomach at all. I have ridden it every time we have gone to WDW.

Marsha

My friend Dave, who is terrified of roller coasters, let us talk him into riding BTMRR at Disneyland. Although he had a look of terror on his face during the ride (see below - notice the death grip!), he came off smiling and said it was fun! I think it must have been an adrenaline rush or something...anyway, give it a try. If you you don't like it, it's over in a couple of minutes, and you never have to ride it again!

If you have trouble riding POTC, you probably shouldn't get on ANY rollercoaster.

That said, they only truly thrilling rollercoaster at WDW is Rock N Rollercoaster. That, Mission: Space, Expedition Everst (to an extent) and Tower of Terror are the only thrilling thrill rides WDW has.

As rollercoasters go, Big Thunder is a weenie one.

You make the call! :)

I can do POTC just fine - a piece of cake. I can also do Splash Mountain, but I thought I would die on Space Mountain. I screamed in terror the whole time. If you don't like POTC, do not go on Space Mountain (trust me). If you do go on BTMRR, do not sit in the back. It is terrible in the back & not that much better in the front.
