Big Thunder Mountain... Is this ture?

I read this, and think it sounds calm enough (except for rattles) for a granny and baby. Opinions?

"Big Thunder Mountain, a coaster disguised as a runaway mine train, has been a must-do for my family for years; the train rattles you around a lot, but there are no major plunges, so almost any age can enjoy this ride. "

It's faster than the Matterhorn, but less jerky. No plunges or dips, just fun turns. It's a great ride teacups, you really should try it (so says my 5 year old -- who loves it almost as much as Space Mountain).

HAHA. i keep telling myself i need to read posts more before i start replying. silly me!

Ive been on it a couple of times. It is jerky, and sometimes I get a little dizzy, but i have extreme motion sickness- I can't even LOOK at the teacups! But I don't think it's that intense, I laugh the whole ride!

haha I can't stop laughing at myself for reading that you wanted to take a baby on that though!

I love rollercoasters so I liked it, but my 10 year old didn't want to go on it. I tried to talk her into it, because I'd read that it was pretty mild as coasters go. I'm glad I let her switch off-- it was a little crazy, she wouldn't have liked it. However, the 5 year old went with me and liked it! I thought it was pretty wild, but like the previous poster said, not a lot of plunges-- just fast turns.

my Granny did ride it multiple trips into her 80s!

It is one of the mildest coasters I've ever ridden but it is still a coaster so if there is a health reason why the granny shouldn't be riding a coaster, she should probably avoid it. As for the baby, I highly doubt one would be allowed.

You know what freaks me out about big thunder mountain? The fact that 2 people DID die on it. The first death happened the first time I ever took my kids to Disneyland! We were there that day. This happens right after I had given my kids the old line about how safe the Disneyland rides are, yada, yada, yada--get back to the DLH and it is all over the news

So I still have never been on that one--I just can't help thinking about that side of it.

This happens right after I had given my kids the old line about how safe the Disneyland rides are, yada, yada, yada--get back to the DLH and it is all over the news

So I still have never been on that one--I just can't help thinking about that side of it.

I would think because of the incident, it's probably the safest it's ever been. If that's not enough for you, think of this. The accident happened in the front car which is the least fun one to be in IMHO (When you go over a peak, it dosen't start speeding up until half of the train passes so the front cars start down slowly before speeding up. The last car actually speeds up a little while still going up just before the peak so you whip over the top ). Try and request the last car and you can both feel safer and get the most fun way to ride.

My grown children, husband and wife, had gotten off the train before that accident happened. We were waiting for them at the Golden Horseshoe for the show. We all watched it and then when we went outside it was ribboned off.

You know, sad things and accidents happen everyday. Disneyland is no exception. Just remember to follow the rules and keep your hands and feet inside the doombuggy. Oh and don't stand up on Screamin'

Dang, and we were so close to getting teacups to ride the wildest ride in the wilderness!

As tame as it is, it's my favorite coaster in the park. I love the theming and the ride. I make sure to hit this one at least a few times each trip.
