I am so happy!

I thought my husband was hesitant about purchasing DVC. Today we were talking about it (because I always bring it up). We were talking about points. He said "I think we will need more than the 150 minimum points" Wow! This is huge because he is so skeptical about everything. Now of course he will not buy sight unseen like myself, but we are getting closer to a "YES" answer! Can't wait until October when we go check it out!

Now the dilema, where to buy SSR or resale...

Thanks again for all your help! I would not have gotten this far if you guys didnt provide all the answers to the questions he's been asking me!

Deb

That's one big step toward membership!

And if you can't decide about buying direct or resale, you can do what we did -- buy both.

Good luck on your trip next month! We are counting the days ourselves :)

Hi,

Pixie dust for your trip!!! Good luck!

Glad you are a step closer to a decision you won't regret ;). Have a great trip checking things out.

As for your dilema......................as they always say, buy where you really want to stay most often. If that is anywhere other than SSR then go resale.

Your DH is very smart! I would really not reccomend to people to buy the minumum. There is less value to having only 150 points. We started with a minimum of 230 and added on 150 a year later. We now feel our points are just about right, and there are only two of us!

Definitely buy where you you think you will stay most often.

Congrats on the decision!

I would go with SSR if it were me and my DH was as skeptical as yours and the process will be alot simpler and you do not have to worry about Disney buying back the points and getting yourDH disgusted with the whole process and then you will have a 50 year membership.

Good Luck! Keep working him! Once he sees the accomodations for himself, he'll be sold. Don't worry.

I would , and I am going to buy SSR. I have waited almost 4 weeks to see if Disney is going to buy back these points. I would not got through that again. I am sure that SSR will not be a let down. Plus you get 50 yrs and easier financing.

Your up comming trip is to close now to change but I wish we would have bought before we went. We didn't know about DVC before we went back in Nov of 99. I kept seeing the DVC booths and finally talked my wife into going to the presentation. Of coarse we feel in love with the idea but didn't buy right then. When we got home I looked into resales and bought 220 at OKW.
Anyway my point is, we stayed in the tree houses at the Institute which are 3bdrms (very cramped, not like DVC), and that room cost me almost $2000 that I could have used towards DVC and then we could have stayed at OKW which is where I wanted to stay in the 1st place and had way better accomodations. We have never regretted buying into DVC, and know that we have many wonderful trips on our own (VB) and with our grand kids(WDW) to look forward too. I'm sure your husband is going to like what he sees. Enjoy your trip.

All the resorts are great, each with their own special perks. BUT..... SSR has that 50 year term that none of the others have. If I were a new buyer, I would definitely give that "perk" great consideration.

Go with SSR. You get $10 off per point and the 50 years will benefityou in your case.

You are right...it IS a big step. We finally took the leap 2 weeks ago and are sweating out the ROFR process on our offer on pts at OKW.
It's nerve wracking and we've already decided that if we don't get this one we will just go SSR direct and be done with it.

Good Luck w/ your decision. I think we can spare a bit of pixie dust for you!!

ILPHIL,

My husband is very interested in resale. He really likes OKW, as I also. My concern is the pools seem kinda "dull" compared to the others. We have two boys, 10 and 11, so pool is important to us. Anyways, I heard that ROFR is pretty likely if the price is under $70.00. So, do people just make sure to buy over that amount? Or, is any amount a candidate for ROFR?

Thanks for your patience... I through out alot of questions..

Deb

Deb,

The kind of "boring" looking pool was a negative for us too. Our dtr is 13 and our 11 yr old niece often comes with us - the pool is VERY important to them. But, when we took everything into account OKW still seemed like the best option for us. My wife just loves the look of OKW and I love the low dues. (Can you tell who does the $$ side of things?) LOL

As far as the ROFR...I have heard all kinds of numbers tossed around. Our offer was $71 but all this yrs pts are banked so there is some concern that Disney may be inclined to snatch it even though it's an otherwise "safe" price. Hopefully we will find out in the next couple weeks.
But, now that we have made the decision to do it once, if this deal falls thru we will just look for another one. Although we would probably look at SSR just to avoid the uncertainty of the whole resale process.
Hope I answered your questions...after all, we are all in this together!!

Phil,

Ahh... so if it is a good deal, Disney may decide to buy back the contract....

I hope you will let me know if you get approval. I'd like to see what happens... I'll be looking for your "congratulations" post.

As far as OKW or SSR, it is still up in the air for us. My hubby is in no hurry to purchase, so he may try resale... we'll see, it changes daily (in a good way) for him.

Deb :)

I LOVE OKW, but I agree the pool situation is boring. Keep in mind, however, that we have pool hopping privelidges, and SSR pool looks to be like a great one, and will be a short walk down the DTD path, or a quick pontoon or bus ride away.

We aren't much for the big pools, we like the quiet ones, so not an issue for us, but that is how I would approach it if you are thinking everything else looks to be to your liking at OKW.

DisneyDiane,

My husband will be so glad to read your post! He is definately for OKW... for the resort, price and lower dues. I didnt think about going to the SSR pool via pool hopping privledges :) The two resorts are close enough.... you have such Disney wisdom!

You don't think that they'll make SSR pool exclusive only to SSR members like BC does?
