We are planning our trip in October and have never tried this place. Can anyone shed some light. Good or bad. I have reviewed the menu but how was the food, service etc.?

Thanks,
Always Grumpy

Ate there in February, for a late lunch.
Food was like the service, spotty. DW ribs were good, but my food was barely okay. Service started out great, but was lacking badly by the end of the meal. We ate inside, away from the bar, and the atmosphere was rather bland. If you go, I suggest eating outside, as some people on the boards think it is more fun/interesting.
Don't think we will go back, unless we sat outside, or at the bar for drinks.

It's really nice to sit outside and eat (or just have a drink) there - especially in the evening. It's a good place to people watch, plus if you can time it with Illuminations you can get a peek at the fireworks whilst you munch :)

The couple of times I've been there, the service was a little slow - but still bearable I thought.

We had a very nice dinner there on our first night of our trip. The pecan crusted chicken was outstanding. The meatloaf was very good. We were seated outside which was great for the kids, the sidewalk entertainment was all around so the adults were able to talk. They had a neat beer sampler, and also a good chocolate dessert (I'm thinking it was cake but don't recall for sure).

Since I stay at BWV a lot, I have eaten at Big River quite a few times and I have always had a good meal. It is not my favorite WDW restaurant but it's one that I do like quite a bit. They have good food and it is very convenient when staying at one of the Epcot resorts for a quick meal when you are coming back from the parks at night. I very much prefer to sit outside, it is much nicer and has alot more atmosphere than inside.
I just ate at Big River about 10 days ago and both the service and the food were very good. We had the ribs which were good but a little skimpy on the portion size and the meatloaf which was very good. They make their meatloaf with ground beef & pork and also sausage and the meatloaf is chargrilled and served with a brown gravy. It sounds a little unusual but it is very tasty. I have also had salads, sandwiches, appetizers and the chicken at Big River and all are good and reasonably priced.

My take after 3 meals there--good spot for a burger and the meatloaf is excellent. As RobertP said, inside is quite drab (I'd even say dingey) and the service leaves a whole lot to be desired. The microbrews are an added attraction, and Wowzer's Wheat is my favorite. If we go back again, we'll eat outside. There, with a Wowzer's and a meatloaf, it probably ain't too bad!!!
