Me and DM will be at WDW Sep 22-26 for a mom and me trip! Our 1st nite we are planning on eating at Big River Grill at the Boardwalk. We will not have a park ticket for that day as we will be arriving in the late afternoon. Is the BRG a good choice? We plan on walking aroud the Boardwalk and seeing the resorts there after our meal. But, we could eat at any resort, so now I am questioning this choice. Has anyone eaten here? Is the food and service good? Would a different place be better? We also will be eating at Le Cellier, 1900 Park Faire, and 50's Prime Time Cafe. We have the free dining plan, and are not TOO adventurous, so if anyone has an opinion on our 1st night choice, please let me know!!! Thanks!! :sunny:

It's difficult to answer without knowing you but it's not a bad choice. Do you like beer? BRG makes a few. The menu choices are rather limited and are fairly standard for a "brew pub" but it is good. the service is the same as most places at Disney, I would say. Since you'll be there late afternoon in late September you might enjoy sitting outside along the Boardwalk- it will be in the shade at that time of day. I think most people would like it.

We have only eaten here once but we enjoyed everything that we had. My son loved the beer cheese soup. The inside isn't very appealing to me but sitting outside on the Boardwalk would be a great way to enjoy a meal.

As far as going here or another resort, I would pick Kona instead. This is one of our favorites and it is on the monorail so you could check out the other resorts. I just made ressies for a trip starting Sept. 29 and was about to book Kona on several nights without any problem.

Reviews are always so varied on the boards - what one person likes, another will hate. That being said, we went to Big River for lunch on our last trip and liked it a lot - so much so that we'll be going back again next year. If you're in doubt, check out the restaurant menus over on allearsnet.com.

However, since you have the free dining plan, maybe you should consider eating at Ohana's. All you care to eat steak, turkey, pork, and shrimp + appetizers + pineapple for dessert. That one is our favorite.

If you like your burgers charred beyond recognition and resembling a hockey puck, this is the place for you!! In all honesty, I've tried it twice and both were awful - food and service. I personally will never go back. There are too many incredible restaurants in WDW to choose from to ever consider BRG again.

We like it--mostly. As others have noted, the inside is a bit "drab" and we found the service to often be "nonchalant".
But their meatloaf is excellent and the burgers (when cooked properly) quite good. And the beer alone makes it worth a visit.
We're going back ourselves on 10/7..

We ate there for the first time this past June. The food was pretty good but I thought the place could have been cleaner and better maintained. Since they don't have double doors to the outside we found the flies inside quite aggravating. Since eating there I can now tell the difference between the Disney restaurants and the rest, like Big River. I really doubt that we would ever eat there again. There are so many better places to eat in the boardwalk area.
