Big River Grill or Garden Grill?

I don't call for our ADRs until Memorial Day, but I've been planning out which restaurants DH and I want to try.

After looking at the menus, DH and I wanted to try Big River Grill but I've read a lot of negative reviews here and now I'm a little worried about the choice. I don't want to eat anywhere we ate at last time (Le Cellier, Hollywood & Vine, Crystal Palace, 1900 Park Fair, Tony's Town Square, Jiko, Shutters) and so far this is where we would like to go on this trip:

Whispering Canyon
50's Prime Time Cafe
Liberty Tree Tavern
Rose and Crown
Tusker House

We really wanted to try a place around the Boardwalk, and like the food that Big River Grill has on their menu. If we decide not to try this one, we were thinking of Garden Grill at Epcot.

What do you guys think? Any other suggestions and/or opinions?

There are a lot of negative reviews (and a lot of positive reviews) about every single restaurant at WDW. If you haven't been to BRG and like what's on the menu, you should try it and decide for yourself.

That being said, I am a fan of BRG. I go there for lunch at least once on each trip to WDW. The food is good, the beers are very good and the service has always been just fine.

I have not eaten at the BRG, but we tried the Garden Grill last September and really enjoyed it. Even with the characters being present, it is not an especially loud restaurant. The rotating scenery is nice. The food was very good. My husband really enjoyed the steak while I liked the catfish and the chicken. They served the best cheesy potatoes I have ever had. I believe that we had the potatoes refilled at least 4 times! The veggies - string beans and carrots - were crisp and fresh. The puff pastry dessert was to die for and the kids really enjoyed decorating their own cupcakes. I am confident that we will go back. I would recommend the Garden Grill.

Well here's one vote for BRG. We *love* this place, and we always go as a huge family ( last trip, we were 15, with people of all ages from grandkids to grand parents ). Last trip, we even went twice.

That is very true, and I should know to expect views from both sides of the fence for every restaurant! ;) It just seems that lately, there have been more negative comments than positive ones. I was getting a little worried, and needed a little reassurance.

Thanks guys! :thumbsup2

We've eaten @ Garden Grill & the food was very good. Homestyle & plenty of it. My only complaint about this place is that I got full very quickly & still ate more & ended up stuff & needed a nap. This trip we have BRG on the short list. Haven't tried it yet, but love the menu too. I thought the prices were reasonable.

Do you have children in your party? If not, then go to BRG.

I say this because DH and I used to enjoy dining at WDW back in the days before kids. Now it's all about the character meals. My boys loved the GG so much last Nov that we had to dine there TWICE in one week.! :rotfl2: We enjoyed the food the first time around :rotfl:

BRG's menu reminds me of an Applebee's-type restaurant. Nothing wrong with that. I've heard it's very romantic in the evenings dining outside on the boardwalk. I think for a couple, of the two restaurants I'd go with BRG.

I find both of the places very average.

My choice would be to take another of the WS places and go with that. Chefs de France, Tutto Italia, Nine Dragons, San Angel Inn, etc etc

BRG is good, also might want to look at Spoodles while you are over there as well.
