big rides/little little kids protocol

I know at Disney we stroller up to the ride entrance, DH goes in with DD and I am handed a pass to come back later so I can stay with the babies.
Can somebody walk me through what happens at US if we all want to ride something but the 1&3 year olds can't ride?

You go through the line together and there is a room at the end of the line (or close to it) where one of you will wait with the little ones while the other rides. When the rider is finished, you swap.

Or sometimes you can go right into the babyswap area (usually through the exit) and get right on....ask a cast member....
