Big Red / Little Red storyline being removed from Kilimanjaro Safaris

I'd be happy to see it go. But I'll believe it when I see it.

The last time we rode it, they had a radio malfunction, and we couldn't get half of the radio relays. It was pretty funny watching the driver come up with thing's like "maybe Wilson's hit some turbulence", or "well, I guess he's seen somthing and can't talk to us right now"

The story line was pretty neat, but I didn't care too much for it. I'll be happy with it either way. :goodvibes

I've always thought it would be neat if they made it a more educational ride-tell a little something about the different types of animals, like maybe what they eat, how long they live, how fast they can run, some little fun trivia fact. I hope a little more is being included in the rehab (but I hope the ride isn't down when we're there).

The whole "Little Red" story line became a joke with our family a long time ago. Our kids would feign out loud their "worry" about Little Red as we rode in the vehicles... "Oh, no! I do hope Little Red is OK. I'd be just devistated if anything happened to him!!!". We won't miss it. As far as for the concern that removing it will slow down the rider through-put, I doubt that will be the case. I think what they are talking about is evening out the ride speed and eliminating all of the slowing down and speeding up that goes with the story line.

I'm glad I got it on tape when we went for the first time last December. Now we can play it back at will, and still experience something new this coming December! :thumbsup2

FINALLY! Now I might be able to get my kids on the Safari without bribary. I think we've successfully rescued little red 10 times. :lmao:

I just hate it when I get a 'hot shot' driver and get jostled all over and cannot take pictures or sometimes even see the real animals. :sad2:

The last trip we had a young man who was greatly enjoying scaring the heck out of us all. Even though I was sitting right behind him in the less jostled part of the vehicle I could barely hold on. :dance3:

I thought I would scare HIM by saying that pretty soon this fat lady was going to be sitting on his lap but he were not afeared at all.:confused3

I was glad to get off that ride and I usually enjoy it. :rolleyes1

Slightly Goofy

1) Glorious !
2) I always thought the Big Red story line was lame.
3) REALLY LAME.
4) Let's face it, the safari is a zoo, just like every other safari-type ride.
5) It is a good safari ride, but DEFINITELY not a poacher tale.
6) While they are at it, maybe they can re-theme Dinosaur (again!).

I think it's a win/win situation. Win for the CM's because they now get to keep their sanity by not having to repeat the same story over and over and over...again in just one shift. Win for the guests because the story was old and now we can just sit back and enjoy the (real) animals.

I do agree that the storyline takes away from the actual safari, but there were some effects I would like them to keep in. Effects such as the teetering bridge and shooting poachers that I thought upped the excitement of the ride.

It's about time! During our last visit, the CM behind the wheel was soooo boring. The only thing worse than the Big Red/Little Red story line is someone doing it in a completely monotone voice. I think the CM's are just as tired of the story line as everyone else.

I think that is a great idea -- it will be more like a real safari. When I'm in the mood for bad acting and fake elephants I'll go on the Jungle Cruise!

good! I would like to spend more time enjoying the animals than listening to the story. I feel like they rush through the real animals, which is the reason for going on the ride.

They have been slowly taking parts of the “Big Red/ Little Red” story for years. Any on else remember how the ride was when it first came out? (dead big red anyone?).

The "Little Red" storyline was always forced. It was a theme ride story in a live environment. The radio support was sketchy at best. It was hard to hear, and often a distraction to lvie the sights and sounds.
However, I do hold out hope that they can salvage a thematic story from the attraction. It does need a "hook" to hold it together. The broken bridge is worthwhile, and the story gave us a reason to move to the next area with a purpose. The conservation theme would be easty to keep without the idea of a specific animal in danger.
I could envision a human personality attatched to the game station that would serve as a protagonist for the attraction. It could be as simple as a search for a lost park ranger. It would stop the mix of animatronics and live animals, and it would provide an opportunity for a live interactive host to sum up the conservation message to the riders at the end.
I'm sure with Disney's creative team they will find a solution that incorporates the queing area story (some of my favorite pieces), and the movement through the savanna.

We actually FINALLY had a GOOD driver who made us laugh and stopped and took the time to let us get pictures, etc...and we got lucky that day...we saw EVERY animal there was to see that day...even the CM remarked at the number of animals out...

At one point the giraffes, wildebeasts, tommies, etc...were all walking like one giant herd...it was so cool to look at...like a cross between the Pride Rock scene in the Lion King and the big herd scene in Jurassic Park....

I never minded the Big Red/Little Red story so much...like being on the Jungle Cruise with wheels...Ummm...just sayin'...:rolleyes1 I've ridden the jungle cruise every single trip since it opened...ya...it's corny, but...I love it anyway.

If they do go ahead and do away with the Big Red/Little Red story, I really, really hope that we'll get more time to stop and take pictures...it's really hard to get a good picture on that ride!

Saving Little Red was a highlight of the trip for my 7-year old son. He was so excited and so proud. We adults are jaded, and I'm sure even the kids catch on after the second time. But that first time for a young kid who believes it.... I'm sorry for the kids who will miss that. Although, I have to admit I'm a little glad that the magic won't be spoiled for mine. They won't have to hear the story again and be suddenly disenchanted as it dawns on them, "Hey! This is fake?!? ALL the jeeps are Simba One??? EVERYONE saves Little R--- OH MY GOD, THERE IS NO LITTLE RED, IS THERE??????"

Honestly I don't want it to be cut out.
Its really cute and there needs to be some story/plot to that ride because if there isn't then its just similar to a regular old tram ride at your local zoo and Disney is more interesting an dbetter than that.
people are talking about how its getting old, well i think thats kind of odd considering the haunted mansion never changes, its a small world never changes, I mean do you get my point of view?
I just don't think that something has to be different and often changed to enjoy it.
JMHO though.
