Big Red Boat

We sailed on the "Big Red Boat" (Atlantic) for our honeymoon in 1990. This was our first ever cruise and we absolutely loved it. The ship was beautiful and when we went to Nassau, we were then tendered over to Blue Lagoon Island for the day. That was gorgeous. And when we booked, it was considered a Disney cruise. One reason we booked it. Plus, after the cruise we spent 4 days at Disney.

So, to us, that will always be the original Disney cruise!

Hi, Chris!!

We were there in 1991 and went to the Blue Lagoon Island...it was beautiful. DD and I were on the trip and I don't think I will ever find another memory to compare with that trip.

Hey Susan!

I agree. It was absolutely the best. I don't think our first cruise will ever be topped.

You definately can't compare the Big Red Boat to Disney Ships today. Not a fair comparison. For the time I thought the Big Red Boat was a great cruise. But then again, it was my first experience cruising so I had nothing to compare it to. When we went, we were never told Gilligans Island was filmed on the island, just the opening and closing sequences were. Maybe they used many of the islands in that area to film parts of that show. Maybe they used it to film one of the Gilligans Island movies, opening and closing sequences, they had a bunch of those after the show was done. Who knows. It was a gorgeous Island regardless. I did hear it went downhill once it became a Looney Tunes cruise. I am glad I got to experience the Big Red Boat in my lifetime. But I do think its funny, people do think it was a Disney Ship, when it was really Premier.

We were on The Big Red Boat and had a great time. Captain Hook pirate: came to the dining room with his men and "captured" a lady. They took her to the island and the adults (only) had to mount a rescue party. We all got aboard a three level tender complete with steel drum band and FREE rum punch. We traveled in ever increasing circles until we reached the island. It was dark, and after so many rum punches we kinda forgot about the lady. On the island there was a small amphitheater and a show.

Great thread. Brought back some memories.

My first cruise was on the Oceanic "The Big Red Boat" and my last cruise was on the Disney Magic. Talk about full circle!!!

I had forgotten about The Big Red Boat's private island's "tie" to Gilligan's Island until reading this thread. Isn't it rumored that part of Pirates was filmed on the sandbar just off CC?

Someone posted this pic once before but here it is again if anyone would like to see the difference in size of the Premiere ship and DCL.

Standing on the Magic looking over at the Big Red Boat made it very easy to ask why they called it the Big Red Boat. Instead of the small red boat. Than again the Magic is called a SHIP!

I was on the Magic in 1998 and that is when I saw the BRB docked next to us as posted earlier. It was not in the greatest shape. No doubt she was a beauty when she first set sail. But as seen here no comparison to the DCL. And that was my thinking as I stood on the Magic looking over at the Boat.

I still have the brochure for the BRB.....and the BOOK that I got for the Magic the first year she came out. What a difference in advertisment.
