Hey yall.

Here is my question...

Flown several times, but I have forgot ( last min nerves ). When we get to the airport tomorrow, I have my digital camera and mini DV camcorder in my Carry on. (Both items are in my camera bag in my carry on---very small)

If I let them run this through the xray machine will it erase my memory on my memory sticks? Will it mess up my mini DVC tapes?

Thanks guys :teeth:

We always ask before we send our stuff in the xray machines. We have never had a problem and they have always said things would be fine. I would just leave a few minutes early so if you need the extra time for your camera/video then you will have it.

Again just ask what they want you to do and if it will cause any problems.
Have a GREAT trip!!!!

No, the xray machines will not harm any digital material like DV tapes, hard drives, memory sticks, etc.

On the other hand, washing them like I just did? Yeah, THAT will mess them up...

When we flew in December (ATL-MCO) everything went through the machine, but they requested that the video camera be taken out of the bag - not sure why. :confused3

The video cameras and laptops have to taken out so security can see that they have all the mechanics of an actual camera and laptop (they tuen them on) and that you aren't trying to hijack the plane with something you have hidden in it. I know, I know, when traveling with a stroller and having to have to fold that up too (with sleeping child) and put it through the xray machine I have to keep telling myself, "its all to keep me and the kids safe, to keep us safe, its a royal pain, but it keeps us safe........

To reiterate what Rowlf said, don't wash your digital equipment ... :rotfl2: (sorry, Rowlf, had to!)

Um, I mean, digital equipment is A-OK with any security screening equipment. Just like you don't have to fear a music CD being wiped clean by the x-rays, you don't have to worry about your memory sticks being wiped clean -- exactly the same technology.

But now I'll share my story of badly mistreating expensive digital equipment. I'm a man, no pocketbook, no tote bag. For MONTHS I planned I'd carry my new point-and-shoot digital camera in one of the "cargo" (side) pockets of my many pairs of cargo shorts. Uh huh. First night at WDW, exhausted from our first park, MGM, I board a bus back to CBR, I swing myself around a pole with one hand and plop myself into the bus seat. I noticed that I banged my thigh pretty hard against the pole as I came down, but it wasn't until the next morning, on Main Street, about to get the classic picture of my kids with Cinderella Castle in the background ... and the LCD screen of my new camera is cracked and the camera doesn't work anymore. :earseek: Ugh. On top of that, it was absolutely charming to pay $27 for a disposable 35mm camera from a Main Street vendor.
