I just had to laugh. Even though ms got you new cards and everyone in your family got a fastpass, you feel gypped. The people who went in ahead of you and got fastpasses probably were after yours. Before I even saw your tagline, I just knew it had to be someone from NY or NJ. Apparently, Disney is discriminating against east coast residents.

hahahaha...

yep.. with the exception of a few, new yorkers and new jersey tourists are the worst.

If a card gets demagnitized, what proof do you have that you even have a valid ticket? Can a guest get totally screwed this way? This makes me nervous because with our luck, we would absolutely be the family this would happen to.

Thanks

We've been doing the finger scan for years (always have Fl. Res. Seasonal Passes), and at first we would have an occasional problem getting our fingers just right. Eventually we figured out that the easiest way is as follows - the very first time you use the pass, insert your fingers into the machine in the most relaxed, natural way you can (in other words, just slide the fingers in there and don't bother squeezing). If you do what comes naturally the first time, then that's the way the machine will read in the future, and it's much easier to get it right after that. We've never had a single problem since we figured that out.

This is a very good point if you missed it the first time I think you should read it now.

So many people have problems with the machine it is rediculous. I hate to hear about how inconvient it is to some. It also gets frustrating when people don't know how to do it, it takes so long. Once you get through it is fine though I can go the rest of the day without thinking about it and that is when the fun begins!

Think of your admission like a credit card.

If your credit card becomes demagnetized, you still have to pay the bill. The information doesn't erase.

Your admission works the same way. There's an identifying serial number on the ticket. When you put your ticket through the turnstile, it reads that number, and calls up your information from a database.

Whether your physical ticket works or not, the information is still in the database.

If your card demagnetizes, you will NOT lose your admission! :)

Also - please remain civil. There was no need for the NY/NJ remark.

Thank you! That's a huge relief!

I hope you weren't referring to me about the NY/NJ thing though. That wasn't me. I love my NY/NJ pals! :)

No! The NY/NJ thing was directed as a general reminder for the whole thread.

LOL! No need to reaffirm your love for the tri-state area residents! :rotfl:

when i checked into the poly last week i asked about the card demagnetizing issues and they gave each of us a little card holder to use-we did not have any problems-but the holder was not offered up front-only when i asked. :cool1:

I can't help myself.

We've had APs for several visits and not had any issues; we do use the sleeves and avoid magnets where possible.

And a little defense of Walt: If you think about how many tickets/keys are scanned each day at all the parks, all the hotel rooms and all the shops / restaurants, to expect zero failures, IMHO, is unrealistic. And I'm not willing to pay a significant amount more to get there....

One issue I have not seen addressed is that you now have to make sure the same person uses a pass after the first entry. In the past there was no need to keep Dad's seperate from Mom's, and DS seperate from DD, etc, etc, etc.
Now, with the first use, the biometrics are in the system for the person who used that pass. If for some reason mom gets the pass that dad used on the initial entry, it will be rejected on future attempts. In some cases it may be easier for a CM to attribute a failuer to demagnitizing rather explain the system has changed and your old habits may no longer work...JMHO :smooth:

I wish this would have worked for me. The first time I used the finger scan the cm at the gate made me redo it several times. She claimed I wasn't squeezing it hard enough. It was very frustrating not to mention embarassing.

I wish they would not tell you to squeze it. That makes people put their fingers in a really un-natural position (which is usually not at all like the one they were in when the reading was done the first time). You don't actually have to squeeze that center post at all. it's just a spacer to separate your fingers. When you squeeze, it twists your knuckles so they are not straight up.

What a pain! I would have been frustrated and embarassed, too.

The little paper sleeves are actually not going to prevent de-magnetizations. They are too keep the magstrip from getting scratched. If scratched just right, you can destroy a binary bit (a 1 or a 0), thus causing the machine to hiccup.

I have to say though, after being stuck behind people, at least 90% of card problems are operator error, and if you are polite to the CM, they are likely going to be more helpful to you. By the tone of the OP, I'm more than willing to bet that the poster wasn't the most gracious person in the kingdom.

It's all about being understanding, it's not about YOU.

What is that supposed to mean? I'm from NY and love Disney, and think it was a nice gesture on Disney's part to hand out fast passes to this family. I also think that people really ought to relax alot....the whole purpose of a vacation is to get away from reality and have a great relaxing time with family and/or friends....so many people get so stressed. and by the way, DH & I have PAP's and haven't had a problem with entering the parks!

Excuse me!!! I take total offense to that. I was just letting people know that my card go de-magnetized and that the CM did admit their were problems with the systems. And yes, I did have to wait over 10 minutes to get through the turnstiles and another 15 minutes before I had a replacement card.

I guess I should of been jumping for joy that it took me an additional 25 minutes to get through the park. I'm sure you wouldn't of been to happy.

Why is it that Disney can never do any wrong? They are not perfect just like I am not. So if I got a little overwhelmed so be it.

The entire purpose of the thread was to help anyone else in the future using their cards for a 2nd trip.

So far I have gotten slammed for living in NJ (which btw I am proud of ) and now I am taking a hit because my attitude must not of been perfect. And all this from a person who wasn't even there.

Gee can't a girl get a break around here anymore
