Originally purchased 10 day MYW tickets non expiring in June.2005 and used 5 days of them with absolutely no problems.

On our last visit this past week had horrible experiences with them in MGM.

First off, it took at least 10 minutes to get through the turnstiles. I actually felt sorry for the employees saying each and every time put your two fingers in, try again, now try it upside down..Put fingers in again. etc etc. was so frustrating for them as well as the long lines to get into the park.

We arrived promptly at Studios at 9:00 am.. I arrived at turnstile 9:10 am.
My card did not work..no way no how..

I was told that I had to go to guest relations to obtain a new one. That was a 15 minute wait.

So now it is 9:25 and we had hopes of going on TOT and Rnr before big crowds came in. I had to get whole new card...I expressed my dismay to gentlemen at CR and he very nicely gave me a fast pass for all in my party which was DH, DS,DD and myself. Very nice gesture but it was aggravating and should of not happened.

well two days later, at Studios again, the same thing happened with daughters card. I refused to go back to Guest Relations and a supervisor came over and informed me it was my fault because I must of put my card close to a cell phone and de-magnitized it.

NO WAY!!! My DH had carried cards for past two days and had no cell phone on him.

Anyway, once again I had to get another card for DD. I was livid and told them that the system absolutely stinks. It takes too long to get through gates and all in all the new system failed.

He admitted that their were several kinks in the new finger system and that they were being ironed out.

But at whose expense?? the customers....

So just wondering, anyone else had this problem?

And I really would love to write Disney and let them know how this system is such a terrible one and what my ordeal was...

Where can I email my complaint to?

is it different than the finger scan for aps they have had for yrs?

not sure. My DH had his own AP and had to go through the same finger scan as the rest of the family without AP's

We did the finger scanning with our APs and the only problems we had were when our passes got wet. Occassionally we had to re-squeeze the bar but mainly once we figured out how to do it we didn't have a problem.

We have never had a problem with the passes and the finger scans. But I have seen others who can't seem to grasp the idea of putting your fingers into a box. No one else in our family or any of our friends have had problems either.

I had many problems with mine until I realized the importance of the exact positioning of my fingers. After many frustrated "retry" entries, I paid more attention to the successful one and than put my fingers in that exact position again.

I figured out the real key is the exact placement on the original scan.

The last 2 times I was at MGM, my ticket (AP) would not be read by the machine. It just kept spitting it out! Both times the CM let me through the gate with my dd in her stroller, and told me to wait while the CM printed a new ticket for me. Wait time-about 2 minutes. I don't understand while the OP had to physically go to GR to have a new ticket printed! That stinks!

On our last trip, our friends ran into a lot of problems with their MYW tickets and the scanners. They had to get theirs reissued, the CMs told our friend that it must have been demagnitized as well, but he had always been very careful not to put them anywhere near his cell phone or get them wet. We had a few problems as well, it always took us several tries to get our fingers just right.

Our AP's were demagnitized by the magnetic clip on my billfold....so cell phones are not the only possible culprits....had the same problem with my room key....live and learn(hopefully) :cool1:

On our trip this summer, my FIL ticket got demagnitized towards the end of our trip. We just waited by the turnstiles and someone came over with a one day ticket to let him in with, and we were told that at some point that day we would need to go to customer service to get a replacement ticket. It was a pain because we had a PS and this was making us late, but not a big deal.

I wonder if maybe WDW should look at a bar code instead of a magnetic strip. I know a bar code would be easier to scam, but I think combined with the biometrics it would work.

We've been doing the finger scan for years (always have Fl. Res. Seasonal Passes), and at first we would have an occasional problem getting our fingers just right. Eventually we figured out that the easiest way is as follows - the very first time you use the pass, insert your fingers into the machine in the most relaxed, natural way you can (in other words, just slide the fingers in there and don't bother squeezing). If you do what comes naturally the first time, then that's the way the machine will read in the future, and it's much easier to get it right after that. We've never had a single problem since we figured that out.

We had nothing but trouble with our passes. We replaced them several times, even though we kept them entirely separate from everything else (keys, phone, change, etc...) It got to be ridiculous. The CM at AKL told us that sometimes the passes are recycled and that can be a problem - not sure if he meant made from recycled material, or previously used and recycled. They even gave us paper sleeves to keep the passes in. If we couldn't get through the gate, we just showed a driver's license and they let us pass. Also had similar problems with the room key, so it's not just the finger scan, it's the cards themselves.

I just had to laugh. Even though ms got you new cards and everyone in your family got a fastpass, you feel gypped. The people who went in ahead of you and got fastpasses probably were after yours. Before I even saw your tagline, I just knew it had to be someone from NY or NJ. Apparently, Disney is discriminating against east coast residents.

::yes::
Another thing that can cause demagnetization problems is putting 2 cards together so the magnetic strips touch. That can happen with another park pass, credit cards, driver's license, anything else with a magnetic strip. If they touch, one can demagnetize the other or both can be demagnetized.

For the finger scan - I've done it for years with AP and I still have some problems. Almost always at Epcot. I can pretty much tell as soon as I put my fingers in; the machine just feels different. I think some are set at a little different height or angle or something. It just doesn't feel the same and the fingers don't go in the same.

I kept our passes/room keys in my wallets pictue widows. One ticket for each sleve so they were NEVER Back to back. I heard that can also demagnetize them. We never had a problem.

It is the same as the AP scan and in something like 5 years of owing an AP I have had one problem....

Oh please, this doesn't have anything to do with NY or NJ.

We've had to use the finger scan on our last two trips. We've never had a problem. I've seen plenty of other guests having a hard time getting their cards read.

When you think about the number of people that enter the parks each day, someone is bound to have problems with the system.

I wonder why the OP only had trouble with the pass when entering MGM.

When I first activated my AP last year I had problems with the finger scan. I actually think it was my fault, that I did not have my fingers all the way in for the initial scan or something. After a few days of frustration, having to try and retry the scan, a CM at the gate of AK asked me if I wanted him to fix my pass and I said yes. I don't know if he rescanned my fingers or what, but after that it always worked fine.

I'm an AP holder and that is exactly what I figured out during my last trip. Just place your fingers into the machine in a relaxed, natural way. When you squeeze your fingers or try to press your fingers up against the bar inbetween your fingers, it won't work.

I found it odd too that the only problem was in MGM and with 2 different cards. My fingers were fine it was that the card was de-magnetized.

I also find it interesting that Disney admitted the system does not work and they are still working on it. What is the possibility that your cards would not come near a cell phone or bill clip. They definitely need to re think this program.
