Also, do you think there is symbolism in the opening of the show with the ice splitting and all of them going in different directions and isnt Bill in the middle...?
You can really pick this opening apart in many ways! When I first saw the opening, I figured it mirrored their views on life, marriage and death. Bound together for all eternity ... hands held while skating. Why are they skating and why does the ice break? B/c their situation is on thin ice whether it be hiding from neighbors, police, etc. w/polygamy or whether their personal relationships and/or marriages are perpetually on thin ice. Ice cracking symbolizes death and/or the splitting of the family or divorce. Then, they push through the filmy curtains or "veils" -- remember in the episode where Frank's first wife dies and he puts the cloth over her head. Well, maybe those are the veils they are pushing through. Then, of course, they all meet in the Celestial Kingdom -- the scene where they are eating dinner in outer space.

However, the cracking ice could symbolize their world cracking apart. But, w/their beliefs, regardless of what happens, they are bound together for all eternity and will meet in the Celestial Kingdom.

I'm sure others can find other symbols in the thing.

I love this show. Was thinking Nicky is a real dog for staying in the hotel and lying about being in a shelter. Gotta love to hate Nicky!!!! Got a kick out of Barb and Bill frantic when Heather's dad (the state trooper) came to pick her up at their house!!! The episodes keep getting better and better.

The one thing that irked me, though, is that Roman sure got that land to be declared a historical site awfully quickly. Wouldn't something like that be tied up for awhile in the court system!?

Stupid computer! Sorry about that!

If anyone was wondering, HBO has picked up the series for a 2nd season. It's a very good show.

I'm not and expert on Mormon sybolism, but I have been told something... The searching for each other through sheets,is a custom from a marriage ceremony..IF the couple finds each other through the sheets it symbolizes they will find each other in the afterlife.. The scene with them eating together on the planet refers to the fact that they believe each family will become the G-d of their own planet.
Did anyone notice that when the songs says i may not always love you,Bill s tipping back Nic?
I hope this hasn't all been discussed before.

Great news. Welcome to the Dis!

Correct me if I am wrong.....but my understanding is that if a Mormon wife dies...she does not go to heaven without her dh, but goes to a sort of holding area....then the dh marries another...and she passes, she goes to the holding area...then dh dies and he takes them all to their kingdom..the woman can not go to the "heavenly kingdom" without the man..so in the after life....they live in polygamy....in their kingdom and have celestial children....so in essence, polygamy is still a part of the Mormon doctrine....Again, this is something that I have read and it was confirmed by a non practicing Mormon.

I am not sure if it has been discussed - but I also noticed that. I also thought it was an interesting choice of music for the opening.

I know that I am totally addicted to it. I did notice the song playing at the beginnning and how funny ii is that when they sing i may not always love you it is on nicki. Next week's episode looks really good

I love this show!! DH and I TIVO'd the episodes but aren't completely caught up yet. We just watched the episode with Wayne's birthday...hope to catch up soon!

Did you all know that the gal who plays Roman's child bride is the voice of Lilo? Since finding that out, that whole storyline completely creeps me out!

She's also the little girl that crawls out of the TV in the Ring

Creepy that Rhonda is the same girl from "The Ring" ... far more creepier than her being the voice of Lilo!!!!!

I think Rhonda is my favorite character b/c you know she's up to something ... some big ideas esp. after her asking about NYC and taking Sarah's I-Pod!

Now, BL fans, clear something up for us -- I say Rhonda took Sarah's I-Pod and Daxx thinks Sarah gave it to Rhonda. What do the rest of you think!?!?

It was given to her. She was way to blatant about wearing it to have stolen it.

I think she stole it too. I don't know any teen who would give up their Ipod (with all of their own songs downloaded on it) and she seemed to have a sneaky smirk on her face as they drove away.

It creeps me out that she was the chick from The Ring. She is going to be a major player, IMO. In a really destructive way.

Did anyone else notice that even though Bill enjoyed sex with Nicki, he didn't even touch her at all afterwards? He does not seem emotionally connected to anyone but Barb. More like a father/disciplinarian to Nicki and Margene. Barb is his peer but the other two seem like playtoys and responsibilities.

I thought this at first, too. But, then I thought that it was given to her out of pity. Sarah can get another one, and the songs are already on the PC to download to a new iPod. Rhonda wouldn't necessarily have access to an iPod because Roman might think it would give her other ideas. The other thing is, I don't know that Rhonda would have access to the same music that Sarah would enjoy off compound.

Absolutely, I've noticed this. Barb is also like a mother to the others. While we haven't had too much interaction with Don's wives, they seem to be more close in age than the Henrickson trio. Although, Bill's father seems to have similarly varying wives. The one with the dog seemed to be a regressed child to handle her position in life. Definitely not on an even par to the other wives. Then again, isn't this what you'd expect for a polygamist lifestyle? I would expect that there would be different roles that each wife would play and that the role of "first wife" isn't only important because of the pecking order but because she was the one that was actually chosen by the husband alone.

Adaleen seems so in charge but is actually the fourth wife. I wonder who is first wife?? Also are we going to see any of Nicki's siblings etc.

Roberta was first wife. When she passed away, by tradition, he would marry his 2nd wife legally making her first wife. That would be Lois, Bill's mother. He tried to pass her over in favor of (I think) Adaleen. Bill offered him a big chunk of money to make his mother an honest woman. Now Lois is his legal wife.
