We are leaving on BIG FAMILY VACATION # 2 in 8 days. My family of 5 and my BF's family of 5 and her mom. What a crew.
My husband and I started building our dream home 9/15/04 we expected to complete the house by 1/15/05.
We're still not finished. Now DH is having a fit saying we should cancel the trip.
CANCEL MY WDW TRIP?? MY PRACTICALLY FREE TRIP???
You see- I had a brilliant idea that I should apply for the Disney Visa and charge the house as we built and pay it off promptly not incurring any interest.
Well I did and we did and not a penny of interest did we incur. I just charged all my building materials as well as anything and everything that can be charged and payed them off each week. We have accumulated $1397 in Disney money. That will cover our room at POR and most of our meals. Tickets are AP's from last year. The only thing we are out is our airline tickets. We usually drive but....
My BF and her DH (who are the other half of BIG FAMILY VACATION) turned the peer pressure on and convinced us to fly with them. Something about ....16 hours in a car with 3 kids .... all that driving...hot sticky kids in the back seat...... are we there yet.... she's touching me..... I don't feel good..... I told you to ask for directions!!!!....
So at the end of Sept we bought tickets on S'West.
DH was not thrilled that we would have to take our trip 3/23/05 but I can't take our 8th grader out of school for a whole week and our annual passes expire 5/8/05. So it was spring break or nothing. Well "nothin" ain't for us.
And back in Sept when we thought the house would be finished in Jan. it seemed like a good idea.
I understand DH's point. It makes no sense that we leave at the very end of construction when we should be cleaning up and moving in. BUT we did not have any idea that our "Money Pit" would take so long to complete.
I can't lose 5 airline tickets. And more importantly during this whole stressful experience I have just kept thinking at the end we are going to the happy place. My happy place!!! I will be riding in the front seat of Splash Mountain with my BF with a bunch of our screaming kids and DH's behind us and that has kept me sane for 6 months.
WHEW!! I just went back and read my post so far and I realize that this is a shameful attempt to make myself feel better about a decision that I have already made and am determined to follow thru with but that EVERYONE that I know will say is crazy (except maybe my DIS friends).
After telling my MIL and getting her reaction, I told DH not to tell another soul where we are going. We'll just let everyone think we are moving next week.
OK-moral support please!!
