I am a St John's fan, but that was horrible.
I mean what I haven't heard many say is not only should Rutgers got the ball but it should have been a technical foul. Rutgers should have been on th eline shooting 2, and then gotten the ball.

Why a technical? I only saw the replay once and it was obvious the St. John's player stepped out of bounds before time expired. Looked like there could have been a foul called on the inbounds play, but again I only saw it once, quickly. At the very least, Rutgers should have gotten possession with a chance to inbound it with 1.6 seconds on the clock.

For delay of game. If he stepped out of bounce and then through the ball into the stands it would be a technical for delay of game.

Possibly, but of course that is a common play at the end of a game to kill the clock - throw the ball high enough with enough air time to run out the clock, but he did step out of bounds in the process. And since the refs were hesitant to make obvious calls, I don't see them calling that. But yeah, you could make the argument for it.
