Big Dog Owners

OK so I had a Vet visit today with a new Vet. I walked in with this guy -

The place took cover and ducked. There was a Dalmatian puppy whose owner asked the Dr to contain my dog before he would walk by us. Then the nurse asked me if he was going to bite her? Really?? Finally a sweet teeny tiny Yorkie befriended my baby.

Big dogs get such a bum rap.

Cute dog...is he a mastiff? I have a big, black dog (rottie/lab mix) and she is the sweetest thing you can imagine! For some reason, someone at our vet's office put a big "warning" sticker on her file. Everytime I take her in, the vet assistant is very hesitant and scared to approach her. After a few minutes with her, they realize how docile she is and always ask me why the sticker was put on her chart? It's kind of become a joke now, because I have no idea who put the sticker there or why. I've seen poodles and cats that were more ferocious than my dog!

I wish you lived closer, I would refer you to my vet!! There are lots of big dog owners that go there. One of the techs has a big Dane that will greet you at the front counter!!

We have a mastiff/rot mix. He is huge. He is super sweet and loves people when we take him our. We have the opposite reaction. Most people start petting him before asking if he will bite. LOL

oh my.. what a gorgeous, sweet looking big guy! Looks like a Mastiff right? They are amazingly gentle imho. My scotties would love him... they really think they are big dogs and enjoy playing with the biggest of the biggest dogs!

Yes he is a Mastiff, Hes a Neapolitan. I would be really upset with a warning sticker just cause of your dogs size. I bet she is sweet.

Thanks, he's a Harry Potter, Fang dog - Neapolitan Mastiff. Such a gentle giant.

I love it when people are scared of a dog at the vet. It's the vet- there are bound to be dogs of all sizes there. No offense to cat owners, but they usually act like dogs shouldn't be there at all regardless of size.

We have a big dog...not nearly as big as your guy. Brought him to the vet two weeks ago for vaccines and my vet was joking with me about what a big doofus he is.

They needed to get a weight on him. Last office we went to had a floor leveled scale that the dogs just had to walk on. This office scale was way far high off the ground. I was like, no way he is going to get on that. The Vet said oh sure he will, call him up. My dog was so scared he was gonna fall off. I said nope not happening. So three of us lifted him onto the scale. Once he was on they were like let go! Ummm NO! So they weigh him at 182 and tell me he needs a diet. He is almost 9 years old. His life expectancy is like 8 years old. Yeah we aren't dieting. Eat a carrot, NOT!

When it was finally over we made a deal - no more Vets and scales and hell yes we'll stop at BK for a burger!

I bet he is beautiful! Would love to see his picture. Friends of ours have a chocolate lab named FIN he sure is a big guy! I think its funny that people are scared but I guess in some ways its a benefit.

Our vet LOVES our Husky; not nearly as big as your boy, but still pretty large (82 lbs). They actually called me the other day and the assistant said that "my sweet Cupcake" was coming due for vaccinations.

I can't imagine being afraid of a face like that...

My son and I took Brutus and our other Mastiff Maggie to our local Pet store - you know Petco where the pets go! Just NOT big pets! A woman saw us walk in, picked up her pomeranian and made a mad dash for the exit! Come on people I promise my dogs will not eat your dogs. They want a meal not a snack. Kidding. I swear sometimes my dogs look at me like what? what did I do?

Hmmm...so you have almost 400 lbs of dogs at your house! I bet it costs more to feed your pups than it does to feed my horse .

BTW, I'm glad you gave him a cheeseburger for his post vet snack! I bet he really enjoyed it.

Awww sweet cupcake, I bet he or she is! Love Huskys! All that fur! We had a Husky when I was younger and man the fur that shed was unreal. Blue eyes?

He looks like "Fang" from the Harry Potter movies. He wasn't one of the four Mastiffs that played Fang from these movies is he?

These dogs can be very lovable dogs. Slobber all over you, but very loving.

Brutus and Maggie must be good "big dog" names... A friend of mine has 3 St. Bernards, and two of them are Brutus and Maggie.
