I had heard all about this chain of diners from friends in Ohio, and we finally got our very own here in Altamonte Springs (the first Big Boy in the state of Florida). I guess they are testing this market to see how it succeeds before they open more. Well anyways, I've now been two seperate times, and I don't think I will go again. This is possibly the worst sit down restaurant I've ever been to, and that even includes bottom-of-the-totem-poll sit down places like Steak and Shake. Food and service were equally bad. I went a second time because I figured my first visit was too early and that maybe they were still working out their kinks, so I gave it another chance tonight. But on this visit it was even worse. It took me 40 minutes to get my food, when it wasn't busy. I was there for over an hour and my server came to me a total of two times: one to take my order, and the other to deliver my food. That's never a good sign. Food was the greasiest imaginable. Soggy and greasy. When I was finished and desperate to get my check and get out of there, all I could do was watch helplessly as my server was more concerned with doing her nightly cleaning duties on the other side of the restaurant.

Big Boy Restaurant... YUCK!

I much prefer Little Girl Restaurant. ::yes:: Sugar, spice... everything's nice! :thumbsup2

I have 2 Big Boys near where I live and the service is always great and I never wait long for food.

I thought Big Boy was something for the history books!!! Did you guys get a statue too? I used to think the hairdo looked like Ronald Reagans! lol! For me it was never about the food but about the place being open at 2:30 in the morning after the bars closed. :guilty:

When I was in high school, the senior prank every year was to 'borrow' the Big Boy statue and 'relocate' him to some prominent part of town..........one year on the roof of city hall, one year in the town pool, one year on the swingset in the park............you get the picture. One year, the kids who took it put it back in front of the restaurant the next day. So now, as long as the 'Big Boy' gets returned, people don't make too much of a fuss....in fact, most people in the town get a kick out of figuring out where he'll be this time. And the restaurant gets lots of free publicity!

P.S. In order to avoid totally hijacking the thread, I do agree that the food there is pretty bad!

Big Boy restaurants in my area are all pretty dirty and not great food. Years ago they were very popular. Now I would not go to a Big Boys.

I love Bob's Big Boy. They used to be all over Southern California, but now we only have one in the vicinity. Chili Spaghetti-mmmmmmm!

Yes, it's there right when you walk in. I give them decent marks for decor (definitely feels like a classic late night diner), but that's where it stops. Looks like my late night choices will have to remain Perkins and Denny's lol.

Thers a Big Boy In Missouri we ate at once...............
Now every time we drive by it I {{{{SHudder}}}}.....blech

I'd rather dig through dumpsters at Big Boy for old food than eat at Denny's or Perkins. Waffle House is the bottom of the totem pole though.

There is an original Bob's in Burbank, CA. We used to eat there all the time! Never even needed a menu - the Big Boy combo please!

I'm sorry to hear that there is now one in Florida that has gotten bad reviews. :(

Hey! I like Steak n Shake! ;)

I lived in Cincinnati, OH for a year and a half. I went to four different Big Boy's and they all were horrible. Like an even dirtier IHOP or Shoney's. And they have tons of commercials and even the food in the commercial looks unappealing. Skyline was awful, Gold Star was awful, LaRosa's was awful, and Big Boy's was awful. I did love Chipotle (which they don't have any around (within 20-30 minutes of here...yet) but that's not from Ohio. At least I don't think it is. At any rate, I don't care where it came from I just LOVE their burritos!

We walked out of a BB in Ohio a few yrs ago. The waitress took the drink orders for 1/2 the table and walked off. I tried to follow her to get her to come back and she ran into the kitchen. Then a man was seated next to us. His waitress took his drink order, brought the drink and took his food order. I asked her if she could take our order and she said no. We waited another few min for our waitress to show up. We finally walked out after being seated there for 30 min total or so.

Wow SteaknShake is bottum of the totem pole-hey I must be the bottum. I lived in Cincy too and the Frisch's (Big Boy's) were good-and clean too at least the one in Fairfield was and I'm picky as my fil was in the restaurant business and very particular about cleanliness. Anyway, They were good and I do miss them although the variety of mexican food here makes up for it. As far as Skyline goes-it's a Cincinnati thing and an aquired taste-took me years before I liked and now it's the first place I hit when we visit. Guess I'm a simple gilr with simple tastes-now pass the mudbugs and beer. :woohoo:

I grew up eating at Big Boy in Michigan and sure do miss it!! I made the mistake of trying to eat at one in Jersey once --- yuck!!! Now I know it must be an Elias Bros. Big Boy to be one that I like!! :)

All of the Frisch's (Big Boys) around here are OK, a little overpriced for what you get. We usually go to our local one after DD has her choir concerts.
I remember being all excited to go to a Shoney's because I'd always seen them on the road but there are not any up here in NW Ohio. We ate at one on the way to Florida--YUK!!! You guys down there can keep them.

I used to go to Frisch's Big Boy in West chester, OH when I was in high school -- over 10 years ago---so I'm kind of excited to try the one in Altamonte...I'm sure it's not going to live up to the hype that I've concocted in my head over the years...

As for skyline--blech! Gold star was ok, not nearly as much cinnamon in the chili as Skyline...loved LaRosa's pizza---miss it terribly...but most of all--Montgomery Inn..I order the rib sauce by the case! lol!

BB's i've been in are just like OP described and the one in my old town even got closed by Health Dept.

Like any other restaurant that hasn't been open very long, this Bog Boy will eventually figure it out. Right now they have the misfortune of bad management and servers that are inexperienced.
They have a great location though as the traffic on 434 and the surrounding area is always heavy.
Surprised to hear you had such greasy food, as I thought the cheeseburgers were less greasy than they are at Ruby Tuesdays and waaaaayyyyy better than anything you can get at a Dennys.
