Biergarten - Ya or No??

Thanks for all the input! Sounds like the scales are tipped in favour...ds4 is picky but meat and potatoes are just his thing. :) It's mostly the entertainment factor that made me book it in the first place; I thought the oompah band looked like a lot of fun.

Love to hear any other comments.

Thanks again!

We found it mediocre at best. The night we went, the buffet was not being replenished very often, so there were empty areas--and this was early in the evening, when the restaurant was not at all busy. I found the staff to be among the least friendly we've encountered, and the show, while decent, was nothing to rave about. We won't return.

It was my and dd's least favorite. DH loved it. The atmosphere was great though. But sharing a table made me a little uneasy. I am shy so it was an uncomfortable situation.

I've got two daughters 5 and 7 and they loved going down to the dance floor and dancing in front of the oompah band. Plus, it's very cool and dark in there, a welcome relief from the heat and sunshine. The other good thing about Biergarten is that I'm just really not that into sausages, too heavy and greasy, and I found a ton of things to eat that I really liked.

The only thing I didn't like about Biergarten is that we were seated with a gay couple who squabbled non stop and one complained about his eyesight going because he couldn't read the menu very well-through the whole meal!

So, they were really annoying -not for being gay, but just for, well, not.ever.shutting.up., but I"m betting you won't get seated next to them so it should be a blast!

Does the Beirgarten still have an oompah band? I thought it has become a hang out for Princesses? Or does it have both? Visions of Princesses doing the Polka dance in my head..... :rotfl: I have never been and am booked there in June for my granddaughter.

We love the Biergarten, it is fun and the food is decent. We love the band, the beer, and there is enough selection for everyone....it is a true disney evening:)

What is meant by sitting with others? Are you actually sitting at a table with strangers? How is that? Thanks

Me an DW have been twice. Once by ourselves and last time with inlaws. We sat at a table with 6 others. By BIL is a redneck seriously. Up until this trip he only drank Bud Light. We love the place. With bad reviews at Coral Reef may switch back to here in Sept.

I've eaten there twice. Last May I was traveling solo and they sat me with a table of 7 men. Being shy and the lone female I was not happy. I ate quickly and got the heck out of there. I don't even remember much about the food.

In Sept my son and D-I-L decided to go to a water park, but my ex was coming down with a cold and we decided to go to Epcot and was able to get a last minute ADR at the Biergarten. We got a great empty table down right next to the dance floor. A few moments later another couple were seated at the other end of our table. They were from Connecticut and she was not happy about sharing a table and was very verbal about it. Her husband however was very nice. A few minutes later two couples from Florida were seated between us. They were very outgoing, friendly, and informative and apparently go there often. They were a hoot. They managed to get everyone (including the woman from Conneticut) loosened up and we all had a great time. Anyway what I'm trying to say is unless you're with a large group already you will be seated with others and they can make or break your experience.

By the way to the OP: my ex loved the food whereas I thought it was just OK both times. However, I'm going back next week and again in Sept with my mom because she likes German food.

The princesses are in Akershus, the Norway restaurant. They still have a band at Biergarten.

There are eight at a table, so you may want to ask them to split you into two groups so someone doesn't have to sit alone...unless they can squeeze someone in at the end of the table. I have to say that everyone in my family really enjoyed the food and they aren't all big sausage eaters. I'm part German, and I was in seventh heaven :p (must be my genes). It was really no big deal to be seated with strangers...we just gave them a friendly smile when we sat down and then everyone went about their business (so to speak). The only person I had a problem with was my FIL, but I brought him with me so I only have myself to blame.

I did not like Biergarten, but my husband, who grew up in Germany really enjoyed it. He says it was a lot like the food he used to get in Germany. It was definitely a "heavy meal" and I guess I ate too much of the pretzel bread (pretty much all I liked) so I was full after we left!

That being said, it's a different EPCOT experience, so if you are trying them all, you might as well go for it.

Also, it was community seating, so there were people seated next to us at the same long table.

We love Biergarten...
First trip kids were 2 1/2 and 10.
Both had a blast and loved the food. then 2 1/2DD ate more there than any where else on the trip.We were seated with anohter family of 4, with 2 boys about DS's age.
One boy refused to try the food (even from the kids section) and they were not charged for him.

2 yrs later when we were making PSs, DS's only request was Biergarten.
We had a large group that trip, including my then very picky niece (around 10 at the time). Everyone including the niece enjoyed the food.

The show is great too.

I have to say that we LOVE Biergarten! The food was wonderful. It was the first stop on our first trip and it really started our vacation off right! (we went one year ago tomorrow. :guilty:) It is going to be our first stop on our up coming trip in December. :cool1:
Funny story about sharing a table. We shared our table with a very nice couple. My husband is in the Air Force, and come to find out, so were they!
In fact, the man had heard of my husband. My husband had taught his boss! It truly is a small world after all. :teeth:

I'm really glad to hear all the positive reviews of Biergarten! We have ressies there for the first day of our trip. I chose Biergarten because my husband is a carnivore :rotfl: and one of my children is not very adventurous. It seemed the best place to satisfy everyone. Plus, the oompah band sounds like a blast! I had not heard it mentioned much on these boards, so I was beginning to think we had made a mistake! Now I am definitely looking forward to it!

We tried it for the first time over Easter break. My husband loved all the meat--raved about it and the beer! My DD--6--is extremely picky and still talks about how she wants to eat here again. She found things to eat and was very happy with the food. She also loved the entertainment. The kids went down to the dance floor during the show--we opted to watch and stuff our faces instead--and it was very good. I'm not a huge meat eater but found many other things to try that were very tasty. A pretty good experience overall. :thumbsup2

I have enjoyed the Biergarten many times. We don't have a lot of German restaurants around here, so I try to get into the Biergarten from time to time. My only complaint is that it is a buffet. I miss the old sit down restaurant it was when it first opened.
