Biergarten Restaurant

You can request a table for yourself and they will accomodate you if it's not crowded

Have they done so for you? We've NEVER been able to do this, even when the restaurant was almost empty. The time I mentioned before, where the people got up and left, they left because they weren't given a table to themselves, even though the restaurant was nearly empty, another time. We've asked on many different occasions and different times of day. :/

They didn't do this for us but they did for the couple in front of us. Also next time ask to see the manager, you will be suprised how much this will accomplish

We'll try it, thanks.

I love Biergarten but don't understand why they just can't pull the tables apart. I don't think there are too many people out there who really LIKE the communal seating thing.....

Part of the authenticity of the meal is the fact that you are seated together. They are showing you what it's really like, to pull the tables apart would be faking it.

We go to most of the restaurants here for the food, though (I know we're just weird), and many times it's difficult to eat with people staring at you, hard to maneuver through the chairs if you're on the inside and everyone is stretched out, etc. I'm entirely willing to give up that little bit of authenticity to enjoy my meal more. :)

We go to Biergarten at least once and usually twice per trip. We were a little leery of communal seating at first but have always met great people. It's Fun! We usually go at lunch and the band usually starts playing around 1:15. We've been there enough we know all the band players names now! :earboy2: Try it..thats waht vacations are for!

I enjoy talking to others and don't mind being around them either. That's something you have to 'get over' if you want to do Biergarten and a lot of other places at Disney. Can't wait to eat there in 22 days!

You aren't weird and I agree with you. I liked Japan's Teppanyaki restaurant, but the shared seating was really awkward. Especially as a party of two. We were slotted between two families of three. Three on one end and three on the other. We we wedged in the middle. No one would talk during the meal. We felt like we couldn't have a conversation. Or at least not the kind of conversation we normally would have. I like to be relaxed during a meal and I definitely wasn't during this one.

I don't think people who don't like shared seating will have a problem. The only other place I can think of that has shared seating is the Teppanyaki restaurant in Japan.

My motto: The more the merrier!!! You meet so many wonderful people this way! We'll be eating there in 18 days! :Pinkbounc

You think that's bad, we are a group of 7 and they sat a single diner with us. We tried to make conversation, but I think she was pretty shy. We were also seated with 2 families at the Biergarten on our last trip. We were used to it, but they were not happy and the 3 men who sat next to us were upset that we were drinking beer :earseek:. Still, I love the Biergarten. We usually go for lunch because the menu is almost the same as dinner (no Sauerbraten, I think). We're from Wisconsin and we love German food and we usually dance to the band.

For every person that would love to sit alone, there is another who sitting communally is part of the charm.

I'm one of those. I haven't been to Biergarten often, but have had great luck each time. Last time it was a German man and his son - who were very interesting. The first time I went with my parents, my Dad was seated next to a man he'd worked with fifteen years before!

My whole issue with the seating at Biergarten is not that it's communal seating, but that it's communal seating at a buffet. We're always chatting it up with people in communal seatings at regular sit-down meals, around the parks, in line, and all that. We just have a difficult time at Biergarten because of the up and down. It's nothing with communal seating in general, just at this restaurant.

Oh, and epcotfan, having a "normal" conversation is also one of our problems. Most of the time at Biergarten people won't say much to us in response, so we'll talk to each other. We don't have terribly controversial conversations, but I feel I can't discuss my family, or other things that don't make polite dinner conversation with strangers.

Heck, this is turning into a controversial topic :)

My feelings exactly :)

There are a lot more things shared than Teppanyiki and Biergarten, but I guess it's all how you look at it. Dinsey transportation, rides, space in general, show queues, etc....

Regardless of where you are sitting and whom you are seated next to, people overhear and sometimes interject in conversations. I think you can talk about whatever you want to (family issues or not) at these restaurants. You can engage in conversation with others or not. It's up to you. If you feel akward doing so, don't go to these places expecting exceptions.

How many times have you been talking and someone outside your party will start talking to you about that subject? Happens a lot. The only privacy in a place like Disney is in your room or by slight chance, maybe, a restaurant that isn't busy.

JMHO

Can't agree that Biergarten isn't romantic (in its own way)--DH and I love to polka and Biergarten is one of the few places we get to do it (oh, how we miss Wisconsin!).

Certainly, Biergarten is not a restaurant in which to have a quiet conversation. It's an "oktoberfest" meal and lives up to the term in nearly every sense. What fun!

Well said. :)

We are eating at the Biergaarten on Friday night (!); 8:20 PS after CP. I'm a little concerned over the discussions about the band not playing after 8:30, and the buffet not beign well-stocked for later PS's. Has anyone been here VERY recently- I'm hoping the entertainment times are extended and the buffet remaining stocked due to the CP packages. There should be a variety of good hot food available for as long as the restaurant is open, and am hoping the CP dinner pkgs help guarantee this. Anyone notice this?
