It seems we have to choose one and have been to neither. Biergarten seems like a fun place and where the kids can get a taste of Germany, not just from the food. And I've read that Coral Reef is pretty cool too.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

I would choose Biergarten, we love it there, the atmosphere, the fun, the food, and in my husbands case....the beer :thumbsup2
The communal seating was hard for us to get used to, we always feel awkward talking to strangers at first, but we always enjoy our meals there, and have never had tablemates who were rude or diffucult to dine with.

While the atmosphere is great at both, we have never had a decent meal at Coral Reef and we have vowed to never go back. The food has always been great at Biergarten and you can't beat it if looking for kid friendly!

YIKES! Having read some good reviews of Coral Reef recently, I decided we'd give it a try for our next trip. Now I'm a bit afraid!:confused3

We haven't done Biergarten in MANY years...and keep saying we'll try it again. Maybe we should squeeze it in this next trip? :confused3

Coral Reef has a nice atmosphere and one good dish left IMO. Everything else I've eaten there has been meh or removed from the menu (I've dined here at least a half dozen times in the past 5 years) and the service ranges from very slow to non-existent.

Biergarten is crazy noisy but a lot of fun and I think the food is better.

I also say go with Biergarten. We had a great dinner there on NYE (08-09) but haven't made it back since. The food is good, not great but its good with a decent variety. The atmosphere is outstanding and the band is enjoyable.

Coral Reef USED to be my favorite restaurant on property, but then it started to just go downhill in a hurry. There is much better seafood and much better steaks elsewhere on property. The aquarium is nice, for about 10 minutes. We find that the novelty wares off pretty quick especially the farther back you sit from it. My girlfriend and I were unlucky enough to sit next to the tank on our last visit there. It was nice at first but when kids started to hover over our table while we were trying to eat so they could look at the tank is where we drew the line. We kept giving it tries even as it was getting worse, hoping they were just off nights, but eventually we had to move on.

I'd take Coral Reef hands down. For some reason it seems to be a favorite target to bash on the boards. We ate there in December had 4 different entrees and each one was excellent. No issues with service and had a great view of the tank.

Yeah, I don't know why Coral Reef is getting such harsh reviews lately. I've been there several times in the past 5 years and it has been nothing short of excellent every time. In fact, I asked my wife (who spent her formative years in Germany and does love Biergarten) this very question in anticipation of our upcoming trip. Her answer? Coral Reef. When it comes down to it, she'd rather give up Biergarten than Coral Reef, even though she loves both.

We have been to both. Coral Reef is really nice and it's cool to sit near the giant tank watching the marinelife (although a bit awkward, as you're sitting their EATING marinelife)...anyways...

However, Biergarten is just a plain good time!!! Besides the fact that you get GIANT beers (which my husband enjoys), there is music, and dancing, and the food is pretty darn good. I would say my kids had a lot better time there than Coral Reef.

Both are great, but I like Biergarten slightly more!

We have never been to Biergarten but we really enojoyed our meal at Coral Reef. All of our entree's were delicious (pork, steak and fish), service was good, and we had a table by the window and didn't have anyone hover over us.

I haven't eaten at either, but I would pick Biergarten over Coral Reef because you can't really find food similar to Biergarten anywhere else locally, and you can get seafood anywhere. This is just my opinion

We ate at Coral Reef in August. Have never tried Biergarten. Based on the experience we had at CR, I'd choose Biergarten.

Biergarten!!! We ate for the first time at Coral Reef in October and probably will not eat there again. It was just... nothing special in the food department. The tank was neat for the first few minutes, but you can look at the tank from other areas. Biergarten is fun and if your kids like to try new foods then it is a win-win. The food is great. We enjoy sharing a table, but we are outgoing and like to meet new people. Not so sure how the "honeymooning couple" we shared with in October felt about hanging out with three pre-teens though;)

We love the coral reef and have been there several times. We love to see the divers in the water. Somtimes the divers try to interact with the guests in the restaurant.
