Last year during our visit we walked by the Biergarten restaurant and my dh really wanted to eat there. We had so many other plans we never worked it in.
So this year I think we will do a lunch there. I have heard that the entertainment is periodically done through the day. Does anyone know if they do the show at lunch time or only during dinner?
Thanks!

We just had lunch there last week and they definitely had the entertainment (German band). Our PS were at 1:15, don't know if it was the first show at 1:30. Same last summer.

The entertainment is during lunch hours, but it's not as extensive as during dinner. It's much more fun at dinnertime. But, you will enjoy the show at lunch too. :)

We went during lunch and the show was delayed by about 45 minutes. It finally went on not too long before we left. It lasted about 15-20 minutes but it was a lot of fun. Maybe the dinner shows are longer... maybe ours was just shorter because of the delay.

Biergarten food was good and the show was fun-- we'd definitely go back. Just remember they sit family style so if there's only a few of you they will sit you with other parties. This was okay with us. The first family that was there ignored us the entire meal but they seated a very nice solo Canadian lady next to us who we enjoyed conversing with. :)

Run! Don't walk! Run like the dickens AWAY from the Biergarten!
Sorry, was kidding but only just a bit.
I have to say that when I first ate dinner at the Biergarten many years ago, they had table service. The food was great, as was the atmosphere. But now that it's a full blown buffet, I have to say that the food is sadly lacking.
I grew up eating German food and I've always enjoyed it. In fact, I downright love it! The Biergarten, however, is not a place I enjoy. Everything tastes exactly like the next dish. It didn't matter which sausage (and there are quite a few of them) I ate, it tasted like the last one.
I was so surpised by my reaction that I felt compelled to go back the last trip. I thought perhaps I was missing something or the chef du jour just had a rotten day.
Nope! The food was the same and I barely ate a thing. And I can eat when I have a fair mind to do so! Without wanting to prompt my dining companion and stilt his opinion, I merely asked what he thought of the food. Without batting an eye, he said perhaps we should reconsider about ever eating there again! So there you have it. Two big eaters went hungry...
So eat at your own risk. The oompah band and entertainment made it fun, but I'm not certain whether I'd ever pay the hefty price to watch men in liederhosen!

We love the Biergarten and eat there every trip. However, I'll admit that I never ate real German food before. It all depends on what you are used to. I know that I never eat seafood on vacation because I can get the best seafood near my home. We also love the entertainment. If you eat at lunch time, you may or may not see a show. If you go at night, I think that there is always entertainment.

RickinNYC, when was the last time you tried Biergarten? If it was more than a year ago, perhaps you should give it another chance. DH lived in Germany for about 9 months while he was in college, loves German food (like he really had a choice!), and we've been to the Biergarten twice in the last year. To him, it reminds him a lot of his college days there.

Although we've been to WDW a couple of times since, the last time I was at Biergarten was July 4th, 2001. You're entirely correct, I probably should try it again. Never say never, eh?

You never know LovesHauntedMansion. I may have grown up eating some pretty awful German food and when confronted by the best, I wrinkled my nose. I'm not known for my taste in movies, books, music or food. In fact, a good Friday night for me is a bucket of suicidal Buffalo wings, a pitcher of beer while watching a sub B grade slasher flick while listening to Spandau Ballet or Culture Club while wearing a pair of boxer shorts and my favorite t-shirt.

I also love German food--didn't care for Biergarten at all! To add insult to injury, the oompah band played two songs and left! No entertainment, so-so food--haven't been back. BTW, my lineage is German--both paternal & maternal.

My husband's family is German and he thought the food was great. I guess the only way to know for sure is to send his mother there someday to try it for herself because she didn't believe him!
When we went the entertainment was about 15-20 minutes long then they took about a 15 minute break (??) and came out and did the show again. Perhaps it just varies throughout the day or by the number of diners? Who knows!
