Biergarten alone???

Reiterating that if you are able to expand your horizons, get out from under generational and language differences, and include others in your mouse house experience you'll be fine.
I must confess I haven't included Biergarten in my ADRs simply because they don't have weissswurst or bunderfliesch, my fav Germanic delicacies. The lack of Dobostorte (imported from the Austrian-Hungary Empire) just solidified the thought although there is nothing wrong with a black cherry cake.
Just keep IASWAA in mind;).

I was referring mostly to an individual, ("someone"). Obviously if you already have a dining/conversation companion sitting directly across from you, the balance of the table's composition doesn't much matter. But being seated as a solo diner directly across from someone else and not making eye contact or polite conversation seems more like prison cafeteria dining than being at WDW.

To be fair I don't talk to DH much during dinner there either...to busy stuffing my face and enjoying the show. :lmao:

I am eating at Biergarten on my solo trip in November.

The last time DW and I went, we were seated at a table with three other couples. The couple on one side of us were friendly. The couple on the other side of us said nothing. Either was fine. We enjoyed Biergarten for the food and the show. That is why I am going back on my first solo trip. Friendly people can add to the experience, but quiet people do not take away from it, unless you let them.

get out from under generational and language differences

Assuming this was directed at my post, since I mentioned our last tabelmates were older on one side and of a different language on the other side. It's true we don't care for the communal seating and this experience is a main reason why, but to be fair, there's nothing to "get out from under" because it is what it is. Even though it's not our preferred seating arrangement, we'll still go because the food is good and the show is cute. If we have similar tablemates that we can't converse with, then so be it. If we have chatty, friendly ones then fine. The food and show trump the sometimes awkward seating set up.

Our thoughts exactly. We go in spite of the seating arrangement, not because of it. And the seating arrangement is not awkward enough to keep us from going at all. We have an odd numbered party which means that one of us will always be seated such that they are directly facing either a stranger or an empty seat. I usually fall on that sword.

Aimed at you? Not specifically or pointedly. You weren't the only person who noted the age of your table-mates:).
I, just in general, notice that so many social events have become segregated by age. When I was growing up it was different and I wish I could turn the clock back.
As for language differences some of my funniest memories while traveling revolved around differences in language and culture. Got off a train at the Gare de Lyon in Paris with a group of I'd met during my travels. We were starved after 16 odd hours on the train and decided to eat in a restaurant at the station and walked in to a hilarious sight. A Spanish family was trying to order breakfast in their language and the French waiter couldn't understand what was being said (Maybe. Some Parisians can get veddy huffy about visitors who don't speak French). So they kept saying "huevos" and the waiter kept shrugging his shoulders. I gave the family my usual line which translates into "I speak a little Spanish but please speak slowly". They gave me their order and I then translated it into French and told the waiter. In weally bad Spanish warned the family if they ate any of the bread in the basket they'd be charged for the entire basket even if they only had 1 croissant. Better to order directly from the waiter if that's what they wanted. Went back to my table and ate. When we left was thanked warmly by the Spaniards and got a bit of a stink eye from the waiter who I suspect understood more Spanish than he was letting on. After all that train station was dedicated to trains coming in from Portugal and Spain.

Then there was the time I wandered into a German bakery (don't recall which city/town) and pointed out all the goodies I wanted only to be foiled when it came to paying since I couldn't count past 5 in German:crutches::teeth:. Had to open my wallet and trust the lady to take out the right amount and give me my correct change. She was very sweet and I think she did right by me but just gave me a determination to learn a lot more German. Forgot much of my German through lack of use but still recall why I wanted to learn it in the first place:).
