Which one has better food? Akershus food selection looks so limited. Except the characters meeting are good. Are the lines of character meet and greet long at Epcot? Should I take Akershus just to save time for those lines?

Biergarten has much better food, in fact we will no longer eat lunch or dinner at Alkershaus, we have relegated it to breakfast only.

The lines for the princesses in Epcot are not too bad in my experience, plus sometimes Aladdin or Genie is with Jasmine and Beast with Belle.

I've not eaten at Biergarten, but my family really enjoyed Akershus for dinner when we tried it last year. We all really enjoyed the cold buffet. For entree, DH had the salmon and I had the mahi-mahi. Both were well prepared, but I think I like DH's a bit better. My daughter had the meatball thing. She said it was good.

We're planning to eat at Akershus again in October. I also like that the food isn't so heavy that I feel like I'm waddling when I leave!

The food at Akershus is good, but more limited than Biergarten. Plus, although you get the cold appetizer buffet and can try the different things on it, you get to choose only one entree. However, if you are looking to meet a few princesses in one place, then this is the place. We loved the food, service and character experience there. A great value also since you get the photo included (ours was with Belle dressed in her ball gown). I think if you have a little girl in your party, this is the place to go! But, I didn't notice any long lines for characters at Epcot and we were there 3 times on our trip last month.

If it were me, I would choose Biergarten. We love it there!! The food is SOOOOO good, the entertainment is awesome, and you feel like you're dining outside even though you are inside in comfortable air conditioning! But...my family and I are all huge fans of German food. My mom thought the Bavarian cheesecake was one of the best desserts ever! Keep in mind something about me also...I have 2 boys. They are only 3 and 5 so going to see princesses at those ages is not as big a deal as when they get older. We go back to WDW in 2 years, so I don't think we will be going to any princess meals. But we will definitely be going back to Biergarten on our next trip. We have been there twice so far (July 2008 and last month), and loved it equally both times! :goodvibes

Pre-princess dinner when you could order as many entrées as you want, Akershus. Now, Biergarten hands down.

First let me say that when I choose a restaurant
I do not take princesses into account, they are "gravy".

Second, let me say that my family is German and Norwegian
I love both these restaurants (do BOTH!), but if I had to choose one
it would be Akershus.

Here's why:
Better quality food
More authentic
Still get "all you care to eat" cold buffet

Yes, there is a lot more food at the biergarten
But their chicken schnitzle is not good- nothing more than fried chicken cutlets.
After my last visit I had to come home and make schnitzle, pound out the meat THIN and make it properly.
i love their pretzel bread, but not their spaetzle!
Biergarten created an itch for German food that it only partially scratched,
left me wanting something better :confused3

However, I did enjoy the experience, I am just hard to please! :rotfl:

I really enjoyed the food at Akershus when I ate there several years ago---I think it was the best character meal I've ever attended, food-wise, with Crystal Palace a very close second. But, the menu has changed substantially since then, so I don't know that that would still be true.

My mother-in-law's family is Swedish, so the Norwegian food at Akershus is similar. My husband really liked it when we ate there in 1996 and 2001 - pre-Princess. Too bad WDW dumbed-down the menu when they turned it into another high-priced character venue.

Twice at Biergarten was plenty for me. The food was ok, but since the prices have risen so much, I can't justify eating at most buffets.
