Have any of you used the biddingfortravel.com boards?? Just tried them out yesterday, and was very disappointed! Sheryl the administor has got to be one of the most rude and non helpful people around! I will never go back there. BTW wasn't there someone else on these boards that was trying to get their own website up--similar to biddingfortravel.com?? Anyone else have a similar experience with biddingfortravel??

I agree with you about Sheryl but the advice on those boards is very helpful especially on what type of hotels come up in each star category. I would never post - far too scared!
I wouldn't give up though.

Thanks wendym--

I think that I will stick to looking at that site, and not posting anything! I was amazed at how mean Sheryl came across. Priceline does have some great deals! I will let you know what kind of price I receive!

The only things I would ever post on that board are winning bids and hotel reviews. I am afraid of Sheryl! :)

BUT, her boards have been a wonderful resource for us, allowing us to travel more and to stay in nicer hotels that I ever thought possible on our limited budget. It's just a different atmosphere than the DIS. And a steeper learning curve, LOL!

If you have basic priceline questions, there are lots of people here who can help you, without the reminder to read the FAQ. Well, you really should read it! :teeth:

Personally, I love this site and the info it provides. I have posted winning bids and a hotel review. Yes I do think that Sheryl certainly has a rudeness about her but I do attempt to give her some slack. If I were getting hundred's of the same questions over and over again and giving the same responses over and over again, I may get a bid rude to after awhile. However, sometimes she does go a bit far.

She is the Soup Nazi of affordable hotel rates :-) Seriously--I would never post there, but lurk everyday!!!!!!

Just got back on Sunday after staying at the Park Hyatt at the Bellevue in Philly for under $90. But I wouldn't dare post my awesome rate, as I am sure I would mess something up and be "scolded".

Yes, indeed, she is rude. I imagine she has some control issues. But her boards give me lots of info, although she would not have that info if people didn't participate on her boards. She doesn't treat them very well, does she?

Thanks for the imput! I will become a lurker and not a poster over there! Thank goodness I had been a poster on the DIS before posting on her site. I may have been frightened of posting anywhere had biddingfortravel been my first message board!

Give Sheryl a break. I think she does a wonderful job of keeping everyone who visits her boards up to date on the best prices received thru Priceline.

There is a great amount of usefull information on the Bidding for travel site . It must take her hours to sort through all the posts she receives and she usally replies to everyone.

She just likes to keep her boards up to a standard the she sees fit to her liking.

......... No excuse for the rudeness. Doesn't matter how many people she is helping or how great her board is. It is just a fact--She has been rude on many, many occasions. People are just stating the facts.

I posted a winning bid yesterday on that board and Sheryl came back and asked me how I got "free money" when I've never used Priceline before, I didn't know what to say, I thought I had done something wrong (the sound of her email) I just told her that Priceline sent me an email for $10.00 per night to be added to my bid so I used it for the first time and got my first bid - 3* Hyatt Orlando WDW for $25.00.

Again, without that board I wouldn't have known what I was doing on Priceline - great information!!

Speaking from experience, posted messages or email make it difficult to judge a persons tone. I have been knocked flat (by family....my entire family) because a light hearted email was perceived as a sarcastic jab.
I love bidding for travel and owe many of my best hotel stays to info that I have gotten from that web site.
I post winning bids and reviews at times to help others.
The thing is if you want help, I think you really have to do your share of the work, which is only fair. I am so meek and non assertive it isn't even funny, but I was able to survive Sheryl and I am sure she is a swell person.
If she sold autographed T shirts I would buy one!! "I survived Sheryl! Biddingfortravel.com" Wouldn't that be cute?? :p

I love the site! I admit, I do get a little flustered posting winning bids because I don't want to get anything wrong. ;) I usually write it down first and then type it in.

BUT, there are rules to the board and they are there for very good reasons. Yesterday, I saw someone's winning bid. It was something like: 2* "xxxx"hotel $19+bonus. Great! Give me more info..........how much after taxes, what dates and what bonus money. After opening the post to read it, all it said was "Ain't it great!" That doesn't give me any info. It is useless to me if there isn't even dates available for when this person is staying. So, you see, the rules are there for a reason.

I don't post questions unless I am ready to actually bid. (per the rules) I also try to see if anyone has already asked the same question I have to see what info they got.

I love that site too. However, I agree that there is NO EXCUSE in Sheryl's attitude! I have often wanted to throw out a few hateful posts to her, even when she is responding to someone else! Unfortunately, I know she would delete them immediately.

Don't stop going there, just because she's a hateful old bag! :p The site has invaluable information!!!

I have received great information from the sight but personally have never posted anything there out of fear of not dotting an i or crossing a t. But part of the reason you can get such great information from the sight is because she is such a tyrant.

After many references to BFT on these boards, I checked them again thinking the format had to have changed since so many people were using it sucessfully.

When I checked the site, it was still the same Technical site from last year. It did not seem as active as i would have expected and there were wide date gaps in winning bids posting.

You have to really find someone that has won the same time period you want to travel and that is almost impossible. Many people lurk, but they don't post which is not helpful. I too was scared to ask a question, and found it a little too cold and technical.
Nothing like the DIS!
I really think you need a little more knowledge to even use this site effectively.

I LOVE THE DIS BOARDS!! Thanks for the support!

Thereuare----

Thank you for the link to BetterBidding. The site so much more friendlier. I found alot of great tips and info on bidding there.

If there is anything I can do to help out, let me know :)

I have posted there. I really don't care if I make a misstake. It is not like I know those people so..... who cares if they fuss at me. I figure that is their problem not mine.

I don't always post my winning bids only if I have something new. (For example I posted my winning bid in Paris France since they are not many there.)

I believe that she used to be a poster here.

I agree, the site is PRICELESS for Priceline information, but I agree, there is NEVER an excuse for rudeness.

Most people come to sites like this one and that one for information and advice. The least we can do is not blame them for the previous problems we've had.

On my boards I've seen the same question over and over and over. What I have to remind myself, especially now that search is mostly disabled, is that Joe Schmoe who registered yesterday, may not have seen January or February's answers in August. Not everyone searching for information read FAQs... Lord knows I know that!

Regardless, it's a personal choice. I choose to be accommodating. Other people would rather just get the facts straight. Both have their place, I guess.

In defense of Sheryl!!

She may be strict, but she is very helpful if you post per her standards. Whenever I post a question, she is back with a helpful answer within an hour. I have saved a bucket of money, thanks to her. And I don't think she is rude. She says the same thing to everyone. She just doesn't want it to be a tangental gab fest, but a straightforward, easy to use place to find information without having to weed through pages of posts.

And please, keep posting there!!! Just follow the rules and you'll be fine!
