I was looking at Bidcactus, trying to decide if I would want to try it. Of course I thought I would check here first.
If you haven't seen it, it's a bidding site -mostly gift cards to bid on from what I see. The bidding starts for like a penny, but you pay $ .75 a bid. So this may be good at 2 in the morning when you could find things that noone else bids on, and get some good deals.:surfweb:
I'm a bit afraid to try, because $ .75 bids can add up, if you keep losing the auctions.;)
Anyone doing this?

I looked at that through a My Points link and week or so ago. What I decided was that I didn't like how if someone else bids in the last 10 secs it restarts the clock with like 2 more minutes. So, you never know how high it's going to go or how many times you are going to have to bid. And like you said, each time you bid, it costs 75c so you are paying something even if you don't win. Sort of like gambling really. I will be interested to hear from you about it if you decide to try it. You have a point about 2a.m., but I want to be one of the people who is sleeping at that time!!

Thanks for that info! I also looked at it through mypoints and was surprised at how cheap everything was but now paying to bid and not even win it does seem like a gamble. I also do not like that the clock restarts so you could keep bidding and losing items.

Edit: Just looked up more info and reviews on it and apparently you buy sets of bids starting at $18.75 for 25 bids so you pay even if you have not made any bids yet! No bid history is available so you do not know how many people you are bidding against. Also, I read that auctions are timed to 'end' during peak internet usage hours so the middle of the night theory may not work.

Also, they only have eight items at a time up for bid so it's not that much to distract people from a great item.

There are some pretty bad reviews here: http://www.complaintsboard.com/complaints/bidcactus-c239430.html

I was doing this on a similar site, Pennypurses.com. I think bids were more than $.75, and the increments in bidding were $.01. Some of the purses (Coach, Kate Spade, all authentic) would go for $2.00-$3.00. Sounds great, except the bids cost about $1 each, so the site makes money even though the final bidder wins a purse for $3. (plus what they paid for bids) I only bid my 5 free bids and didn't get sucked into it. Oh yes, one little minor thing. Every bid made adds 10 seconds to the clock. I thought this was very unfair, the site claims it adds to the fun and excitement.
