I am well aware of the bike/jogging paths available around certain resorts (including where we will be staying at Fort Wilderness), however I was wondering if people bike the roadways on the Disney World property. Do people do it? Is it safe? Are the shoulders wide enough to accomodate bicyclists?

We bike in New York City where the traffic can be pretty intense (those taxis!), but would be it too rare of a phenomenon on the Disney roadways for people to be on the look-out? Is it a fantasy to commute by bike to the parks?

I think so. There are many places with no shoulder. There are roadside trails, but they are not fully connected. If you got to the park on you bike, I've never noticed a place to store/lock your bike.

Disney wants you to drive or ride the bus. They create an environment that makes you want to do it, too. Even walking along the roadside (on the right of way, no sidewalk) is discouraged by the grass (it's really dense - Augustine?). It's at least six inches tall. You don't want to walk in it for long.

I'd be curious to see if someone knows if Disney prohibits cycling. Surely some of the CP participants use them, but they wouldn't be using the same roads as guests.
