Are there bicycles on Castaway Cay like the ones on the Boardwalk - with a seat up front for little kids? DH and I would like to do a bicycle ride around the island with our 2 yr old DS, but are concerned about the "baby seats" I read are available. Are these just the seats on the back of the bike? We've never used that kind before and balance may be an issue!

Thanks!

Well, the bicycles at CC are just like the ones at the BW, even the same Mongoose brand and style. I don't remember seeing any front-mounted child carriers, but they had a number of the rear-mounted ones available. I don't find balance to be a particular issue with that setup, but you do need to be careful when you dismount from the bicycle while a child is in the seat because the system can become unstable. The front wheel can lift off the ground as the bike rotates about the rear axel. This can be scary for the child if you don't catch it right away. Be sure to keep a hand on the handlebars to prevent this.

This happened to me on CC. I got off the bike and DD4 went backwards to the ground. A couple of passersby rushed over to help as my hand got jammed with DD 4 screaming. Be careful!

I guess I'm picturing not the bicycles at the Boardwalk but the larger four-wheeled carriage things. Anything like this on Castaway Cay?

No. In fact, some parts of the paved surfaces where you are permitted to ride the rental bicycles are uneven enough that a 4-wheeler would be a difficult ride.

My DS’s (9 & 11) and I really enjoyed the bike ride on Castaway Cay, and I would recommend it. It’s not exciting, and don’t go if the temperature is above 95, but you can see more of the island and since we always have our kids with us on the cruise, it was my first chance to see Serenity Bay (very nice). We didn’t rent bicycles until our third or fourth cruise (too busy doing other things like sleeping in a hammock all day). But when we did go for a ride it was very nice. I think you can ride all the way to the end of the trail and back in less than 45 minutes.
