Bicentennial

I remember going to a carnival with my family. The kind that pops up, with rides that weren't well kept, games where you threw the ring on the bottle to win it (filled with colored liquid, weird shaped bottles), cotton candy, fireworks...things like that. We were in Colorado, so celebrating our Centennial and the Bicentennial at the same time. It's pretty vague, as I was 5 at the time, but I have some flashes of it.

I went to WDW for the first time over spring break in 1976. They had a bicentennial themed parade, and the characters wore colonial garb throughout the park (only MK back then).

I was in Junior High and my school made a time capsule that year. We included bicentennial quarters and silver dollars, which I still have a few of somewhere.

Yes, I remember that, and it was also when the “America Rock” cartoons came out, as part of the “Schoolhouse Rock” series for kids, with topics like “I’m just a bill on Capitol Hill”.

I was also the proud owner of this transistor radio. :music:

I saw that when I was searching for Bicentennial items, but didn’t think anyone would remember transistor radios. :o

Absolutely! At that time we lived near our downtown area. The city put out a "contest" for anyone who wanted to paint their fire hydrant Red White and Blue. It may have been for kids only, I don't remember that. So my sister and I each painted a hydrant. I would have just turned 15, my sister was almost 5. Guess who won in their age division? It wasn't me, lol. We have a nice framed picture of her and her hydrant displayed on the piano forever.
