Thinking about doing the BBB for my daughter- The mid-range package without the costume.

All of the hairstyles I have seen that don't include a wig or hair piece are the "uber-tight I can hardly blink bun."

have any of you seen any other kinds of hairstyles that might look a little more natural?

Photos would be great.

thanks!

There is a thread to post these kind of questions in if you have anymore.

There are only 3 hairstyles offered for the girls at the BBB. Fairytale, Diva and Pop. (this is sans the occasional wig they may use in a special circumstance)
They will not deviate from those styles at the BBB. I can tell you that the bun is not tight at all and can even be made less tight than normal if you're really concerned about discomfort. When I did the Fairytale buns I could easily fit an entire thumb between the pony loop and the scalp. It only looks tight because of the gel used to keep the hair smooth.:flower3:

Is the gel required? Can they just do a loose bun with a little finishing hairspray? I know it won't last as long, but it would look more natural.

Thanks!

Depending on the leader that's there, they might allow less product, but the hairstyle still needs to leave the boutique "on model" as it were to the style.

I agree- if we can do without the goopy gel, we are in.

Now, I don't know what kind of hair your daughter has, but they will probably need at least a bit of gel to get the hair to work for them, but if you ask them to go really light to bare minimum on the gel they should be able to do that and use hairspray for the "support system." I would definitely check in with the BBB on if this is possible before you start your appointment though and not be heart broken with walking away if it's not what you both want in her hair.

Oh, I agree that it looks ultra tight. My DD looks like she has had a face lift! I wish they could go easier on the gel and make it look more natural, but my guess is that it would then start looking sloppy in a couple of hours and people would say it isn't worth the cost. The good thing is that it does last all day. I just live with it for a day bc she loves it so much and feels so pretty all made up!

I am a former Fairy Godmother of the BBB in DTD and MK and would like to maybe answer this question as best as I can. Generally, the Fairy Godmothers have to do the hairstyles in the brochure the way they are pictured. We can loosen the ponytail a bit so that it doesn't hurt the princess' head as much ( I have done many a style with a loose ponytail especially the fairy tale and the pop) (even in DTD they cracked down on having bangs out on any hairstyle. they actually had a rule of NO bangs on any hairstyle regardless of length *sigh* and honestly I thought that the hairstyles looked cuter with bangs).

Hope I was of some help! Feel free to inbox me if you have any other questions.

Is it still the case they they won't leave the bangs down? If so, then I find that to be crazy. We chose to do it with the bangs up last year and honestly I hated it. My daughter was going to leave them down this time.

When I was a FGIT in 2009-2010 we could give a choice of bangs up or down. Unless it's changed since then, I agree a lot of times I like the bangs down to soften the look a bit, especially on the fairytale.

When we went Sept 09 we had a choice. Last year they just put them up, which we were fine with since we hadn't tried it that way. But we just honestly did not like how it turned out. I hope they have a choice. Some girls just look better in bangs.

Weird, I would always ask since once that gel is on the bangs they never go back as nice even if we washed it out O.O

Just mention to your FGIT that you definitely want her bangs down when you start and I can't see there being an issue unless they've changed the rules or something :goodvibes

I'm a current FGIT in the castle and bangs are perfectly fine - the only exception is if they come down past the princess' eyebrows, in which case we have to put them up. If my princess has bangs, I always ask before we get started if she'd like them up or down. Just let your FGIT know if you have a preference and I'm sure she will be happy to oblige :)

Dont get the colored haired hair tie one! It gave me a bald spot because it pulled some of my hair out, it was so tight! :scared1: ~ Never to old ~ :rotfl:

thanks so much to all of you who helped with this- My daughter's hair is a chin-length bob, and it's slightly angled up in the back. do you think they could even do the bun?

I wouldn't say that the buns aren't tight! My DD's was painful enough to bring tears to her eyes after an hour. She had an incredible amount of gel in her hair, so I dampened it and "broke" it up a little so it would move some. If we had been able to, I certainly would have taken her back to get it re-done, but we were in the parks when it started hurting (and DTD was the only location then). And, don't even get me started on trying to get that mess out of her hair!

I'm sure it must depend on the individual FGIT doing her hair. My advice would be, like others said, to ask them to not overdo the gel, and to let them know you don't want it too tight.

I got V's hair done at BBB end of August. She only kept it in for one day. I had NO PROBLEM getting it out at the end of the day. That is the type of kid she is tho, she will not sleep with any kind of pony tail in her hair. I knew it wouldn't last more than one day. It wasn't that tight and she never complained that it hurt and I asked her if it hurt and she said no. I think the gel as others have said makes it look tighter. That night I took it out and messed up her hair a bit/broke up the gel. we washed it the next morning and aside from some left over sparkles everything was fine. It probably took 2 or 3 washes total to get all the sparkles out. but you couldn't even see them, only if you looked closely.

1. I'm a little giddy talking to a FGIT.
2. We have a big group, and 3 little princesses. One of them will be a couple weeks shy of being 3. When I called to make a reservation, they told me that they might as for her park ticket to verify her age. I totally understand the insurance reasons, etc. Just wondering if they are really that strict at the castle BBB, and if you think it would be possible for the little one to visit the DTD location? We would like for the three girls to get to go to the BBB together.
thanks so much!

Yes. DD's as not much below her ears and they managed to do it (FGIT looked a little stressed the whole time and barely spoke, but she did it). the bottom back of her hair will be left out but from the front you can't notice. It even lasted overnight and the next day (had to take the tiara out at the airport, so it got messed up then.)

For PP, I was worried about the overly tight look, as I had never seen a picture I really liked, but it actually turned out really cute. DD usually complains, so we rarely do ponies of any sort, and like I said, she wanted to keep everything in as long as possible (except the face jewel, that was bugging her after 30 minutes.) And how excited she was about the whole process totally overrides however you feel about the rest of the look.:cutie:

Just to kind of piggie back on the topic of bangs, I was a FGIT at the DTD location just this past spring and they have stopped having bangs on any of the hairstyles. We weren't allowed to do bangs anymore cause I guess there was a problem with some princesses with super long bangs leaving the BBB and the hairstyle didn't look "right" ( I have no idea, I liked it better when I could do bangs). So you better believe it that I was doing the super happy dance when I was in the castle and had the freedom to do bangs on the hairstyles ( especially with the POP princess. Bangs look darling with this one I think).

In regards to the length of hair, we have seen it all and practically done it all so no worries. There will be someone who should be able to get your DD's hair into the style she chooses :).
