Hello everyone,

I have two (8) year old girls that have always wanted to do this, but I find the price a little crazy...especially since they love to swim when we get back to the hotel. Does anyone else feel this way? Or should I just get over it and let them do it? I wish the makeup and hair could magically stay okay when underwater :). Thanks for any advice.

Best,

Jen

Well I was in this same situation. I couldnt justify the cost. As I thought more about it, I realized that the price is worth the excitement, and happiness that this would bring my 6yo daughter.

So, I caved in, and got her and my 3yo niece appointments to BBB for our trip at the end of the month.

If you can afford it then just do it. If money is tight then I understand your concern but they are only 8 once. We do this for my daughter every year we go and have never regretted it even if the hair only stays for the day. It is something we/she will always remember.

I only have 1 DD (8 now), so it cost me half as much as it'd cost you. We've taken her twice, and it's the biggest thrill for her. princess: (The first time she was Ariel, which was perfect as she has red hair, and the second time she was Aurora. She has already asked to be Belle the next time :cutie:).

Personally, though, I don't think it's worth it unless you get the full princess package (dress, shoes, etc.). What we do is make the appointment for right before lunch at CRT, and then the pictures of her with the Princesses are really amazing.

But, don't do it at Downtown Disney, do it at the castle. Even if you don't do the CRT lunch, for the rest of the day every single CM will call your DDs Princess and make a big fuss over them. Many will even bow to them as they let them on the rides :worship:, and often placed in the first row of rides, because she is a princess. Also, many other guests will call your DDs princess all day long, and they'll get a thrill out of that. :yay:

This is why only the full package is worth it. You also get a full photo session with numerous poses and picture package included :thumbsup2 (Just be sure you get a poncho in case it rains :scared1:).

At the end of the day, the makeup will come off, but you'll still have the memories and photos. It is DEFINATELY worth it. :woohoo:

The experience is worth it, no doubt. Truth be told I bet the girls will want to refrain from swimming at least one day to keep their hair styled.

We always get the hair and nails package, and my DD is treated like royalty for the rest of the day!

Wondering if our appointment is worth it. We originally had it set up for BBB and then CRT, but our flight was moved up and then I was able to move up CRT, but too early to do BBB before hand. So now BBB is scheduled in the afternoon and that evening we go to Chef mickeys. CRT will be 2 days later. We are bringing our own dresses and getting the middle package. Earlier in the week we go to Akershaus, but don't go to MK or DTD before then.

Is it worth it, with the heat, CRT 1 1/2 days later and just going to Chef Mickeys? Should I just try to go to Claires and buy some extensions and do their own hair? Thanks!

I do think the prices are crazy. But...I still do it for my DD6. She has been twice already. Both times we just did the hair/nails/makeup package and brought a dress & accessories from home. Probably saved $100 doing this. I always buy it right after Halloween for the next year. The package I get is around $50. The hair stays in for about 3 days. She refuses to swim under water for the first few days. They really load it up with hairspray. Have fun!

My DD did the Diva? and got the cute longer extension ponytail hairpiece. You also get a hair clip and the make up kit to take with you. I had no problem redoing the look myself for other days of the trip. We brought a few of our own dresses and did the middle package. She loved the extra attention also

I also say if you can afford it then let them do it. It is so much fun to watch them get all made up. My DD has done this 3 times now and this next trip we are going again. It is one of her favorite things to do and it is worth it to see them react to being treated as a princess. They also get called princess all day long through out the parks if they have their crown on so the excitement last all day long.

We did this last year with our DD7. It was an amazing experience. We did the middle package and I brought a Tinkerbelle with me that I purchased off of ebay. I don't know that I would do it again but it was absolutely worth it the first time.

Nope- we dont do it- I told her we either do the boutique or she swims. she picked swimming...so now I give up the parade in the afternoons so she will be able to swim. We can do her hair up pretty-- and stick on glitter. (all for a fraction of the costs.

But on the other hand-- how long will they be 8 and believe in the magic?

My DD loves the BBB and we go and just do the hairstyle but the deal is no swimming the day we get it done. I schedule it for the morning. She usually wants the Pop Princess.

If we are careful we can make it last 2 days. I carefully take off the hairpiece when she goes to bed and then reattach it the next day. We also saved it from the last trip and I did her hair with it for the Hannah Montana movie and for crazy hair day at school.

I totally get your concern for the price - we were the same way but our oldest DD is 8 this year and we know our time for her WANTING to do BBB is probably coming to a close before long. So, in order to make it more "worth the money" to us, this is our plan for September.

During our "non-park" off day in the middle of the trip, we have 3pm appts for them to get their hair and nails done (we have a bunch of nice princess dresses that they can already have on so that saves on the money). After their appts and pics, we have an ADR at 1900 Park Fare for the Cinderella supper so they'll get use of it that night.

Since their appts are later in the day, they will have already gone swimming before lunch (that's the plan at least) so it will be right to bed early that night. The next day we have an early ADR for Princess Storybook Breakfast at Akershus and they are dressing as a different princess for that day and from what I've heard their hair should be a quick hairspray away from perfection still so they will get almost 2 full days "use" out of the experience...then they can be free to go swimming during our afternoon break that day if they choose and their hairstyles will have made it through quite a bit. HTH!

Igavethis tomy daughter as her birthday gift sinceitwas in June, shelovesthe idea and hasn't stopped talking about it. She is 4.

Curious question- how do these young girls know this place is here?

is it out in the opened? tucked away? can they see the other girls getting the hair done?

I would think the girls are so caught up with whats going on around them they wouldnt pay attention to something like this.

or

Is it mostly the girls that go to DW all the time?

I'll be honest and say that I wanted my girls to experience this just once - I wish they had stuff like this when I was little. However, with that said, I can't speak for the BBB at MK but the one at Downtown Disney is RIGHT inside the huge GIRLS' section at World of Disney and my oldest did see and read enough to know what it was (even though you can't really see into the actual boutique).

They do also have one girl picked (I don't know how) to sit in one of the windows at World of Disney and have their hair done. Plus, the girls did notice several girls dressed in full princess garb with hair and makeup done at the parks as well as DTD.

I just read another thread that the Main St. barber shop in MK does hair in streaks/colors/sparkles for about $8.

When my girls went in 2007 it was to DTD for BBB prior to going to MNSSHP. They were not happy campers, we were all sick that trip, and they wound up feeling very uncomfortable with the tiara and hair in a bun, it made their heads itch and felt tight. Plus, they were sweaty and the makeup bothered their eyes.

This time, if they want to, we will do hair and nails at the resort or at the barber shop.

It's my dilema too. On one hand, I would love my girls to do BBB once so I can have some nice pictures and videos for keepsake. On the other hand, I knew my girls so well that they are very picky about hair styles. They prefer me doing their hairs (I know how to do princess updo style similar like the BBB style) over anyone else. They HATE hairsprays, tight bun and itchy stuff. I am not sure if I should book BBB. Can I get my money back if the girls refuse to do it at the appointment? Any advice? TIA

I want to thank everyone for their great advice and I apologize on the delay about replying! I've decided after reading all the posts that we would do it, as I know in a few years they may not want to go at all...sad to even think it. I've scheduled it the night before we leave so hopefully that will solve the swimming problem, and if not I'll at least have the pictures. No doubt they'll want to keep the look for 2 days as they start school the day after we return. I'll also post pictures and my comments when we get back so all the posters who are still on the fence can decide.

Again, THANK YOU!

I think my girls noticed at first when they saw alot of little girls at the Magic Kingdom with their hair and makeup done. I believe the boutique is in the Castle so unless you go in there you should be able to avoid it!
