My 6 year old daughter saw a youtube video and is now sold on getting the full $199 Castle package. She envisions shopping for the dress/princess she wants to be by seeing each dress option and choosing at that moment. Is that the way it works?

Also, the crown package is $65. It appears to me the main difference between the %199 and the $65 is the dress and a wand. If I could convince her to select a princess, could I not bring a $20-50 dress from Target or the Disney Outlets and save $100?

Yes. A lot of parent do that. And it not only saves money but gives you more options.

I will say this though....there are a handful of dresses onboard that are exclusive to Disney Cruise Line and I think those are pretty special and worth the upcharge to the Castle package. That being said, the first time my DD experienced BBB was at Magic Kingdom and in that case, we did the crown package and brought the dress, wand, shoes, dress, etc. along and the Fairy Godmothers in Training took those items and placed them in the dressing room for her, just as though they had been purchased there. To my knowledge, depending on what they have for a given costume, the Castle package includes hair, makeup, nails, a sling backpack, a dress, tiara, wand, and shoes (I think).

I've found great prices on Disney Store costumes on ebay. I just got a NWT disney store tinkerbell costume for my dd for $16 shipped....

Are those dresses exclusive to DCL available to purchase separate from the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique? We aren't going to do the BBB, but would be interested in the dresses. :-)

There are a few items that are Disney cruise specific (thinking about the pirate skirts through BBB) but a ton of the dresses are just the Disney Parks dresses. They really are gorgeous and beautiful and a whole level above the Disney store. You can buy them by themselves in the stores on the ship... but you can buy them in advance through the Disney Parks app (or go on eBay) We had a BBB Merida dress get ripped right after we got off of the cruise and we just called Disney Parks merchandising and they found us a replacement.
Enjoy your cruise!

The boutique is laid out so that each section around the boutique is dedicated to a different princess. So if you are standing in the Belle section, then you can see the dress, crown, wand, shoes, etc. When you move to the next area, then you are looking at all of the items for that princess and so on. Our DD was very excited to walk around and look at each area before she decided on which princess she would become.

Bring your camera for sure. Lots of great memories happening in there.

We've done both options. For our cruise this spring, my daughter told me she would rather bring her own dress and do the crown package. I told her she could have the difference in $ to do something else with. (Her birthday will be during the cruise)

I got a Rapunzel dress on clearance from the Disney Store and we brought that. My daughter was perfectly happy with that. She is also 9, so it might be different if your daughter is younger. With both packages they still get the backpack with makeup, nail polish, sparkling gems, a crown, and a banner. My daughter is so happy getting all of that, she doesn't really care about the dress. I have to say our experiences on the cruise ships at BBB have been SO much better than at WDW. It is a much smaller, more intimate experience that just seems more special. She has also done the Pirate Night Empress package twice and had so much fun.
