Not very savvy when it comes to electronics. Looking to buy a new digital camera on BF. can someone help me by telling me which is the best deal available?? Looking to spend $200 or less. Thanks!!

I had an older Nikon Coolpix. I loved that camera. We "upgraded" it with a Sanyo, and I don't like that camera at all. Walmart has a Nikon for black Friday, and if it were in the budget I'd be getting one.

I was wondering the same thing but DH wants a SLR so I'm thinking I will be spending more than $200. :headache:

Thanks for the responses. Not looking for list of sales more like advice on which one is the best bargin! Quality and sale price. Thanks!

Best bargain would simply be the one that's the most dollars off the regular price - easy enough to research. The cheapest camera probably isn't the best deal.

Best value is more subjective; what do you expect from the camera? You say you don't want a list, but take the list and search for reviews - either of the brands or the specific models. Nikon, Canon, and Kodak all started as camera makers. Get the November or December issue of Consumer Reports (local library, free, if you don't subscribe). One of those issues has a long article about the best of everything.

If you want the best bargain for your money I'd look at the lists. While I swear by Nikon and love their coolpix line for point and shoot I have several friends that can't seem to get a decent picture out of one. :confused3 Sony is also another good brand that many have had success with. My personal opinion is stay away from the cheap end of kodak, but that's because I can't get a decent shot with one. So that could just be me.

My suggestion is go with one that has a MP over 8. This will allow your pics to be printed large enough for most gifts. When looking at zooms ignore the digital zoom, you want the largest optical zoom in your price range on a camera you like. I think it was walmart that had Sony cybershots for a good price on Black Friday. A friend of mine just bought the Sony Cybershot H70 and is really enjoying it. I think she paid $155 on sale at amazon.com for the camera.

Head over to the photography board. Search 'buy camera' there's a huge thread on buying point and shoots. Second to the last page Tom posts his blog review. Lots of good info there and a decent price range.

BJ's.com has a BF, online only, for a Lumix 16mp,8x optical for $99, incl case,card... I have had several Lumix and they work great, pocket size, great action, zoom, lowlight pics. Getting this for my dad for Christmas.

Like someone else mentioned, check to see which ones are offering the biggest discount on retail price. From there, read up on reviews of each one that catches your eye. I spent the past several weeks researching basic point and shoot cameras and just last night purchased a Panasonic Lumix. It was about $160. It got the best reviews when comparing specs. I would steer clear of Kodak. Their cameras are not good at all. Panasonic, Canon and Nikon are probably going to be your best bet.

It sounds like you want someone to say "____" is the best camera on sale under $200, and no one else can do that for you. Cameras are a very personal thing.

black - friday dot net shows you the ads you can look thru them and see what you like have fun

Sadly I think you are right. All this talk of specs and zooms confuse me. I bought a cheap BF camera about 4 years ago at Walmart for $50. Worked fine I don't use it for anything fancy it just isn't taking quality pics anymore so I figured it was time for new and was just hoping someone could point me im the direction of a good camera. Thanks for your time.

Well, I can't tell you what would be best for you but if I were in the market for a non SLR camera under $200 I would probably buy the one listed at slickdeals.net today if it's still available - the $190 panasonic.

I am not an photographer by any means. I wanted a point and shoot with a rechargable battery that would be able to take good pictures in dim light. I also wanted a camera that would take burst pictures (where you hold the button and it takes multiple pictures) because my daughter is in gymnastics.

I chose the Cannon Elf 300 from amazon which currently sells for $149.99 in red.

I like it a lot. It does have features that I would never use but has everything that I want. It also has recording capabilities.

You also want to get a good memory card (class 10 if a SD card) and a nice case to protect the camera (they all seem so fragile). Good luck in your search.

I was looking for a camera for around $100 and after looking each one up and reading reviews and what not, we are going to Toys R Us...

Canon 14.1 MP Powershot A2200 Camera. $89.99

They have the best price on it and the reviews say it's great.

Best of luck trying to figure out what will be best for you!

I have this camera and I am very picky with my point and shoots and I just love it. I even had a photographer friend help me pick it out. (Of course my requirements were: needed to be a color, could fit in a small handbag, be under $200, do video and be easy to use.)
