My DD has had two surgeries as a result of a spider bite.

I'm not going to hesitate to squash, squish or scald the little buggers when I spot one. They're not all harmless and I'm not taking the time to determine which kind it is. It's a goner.

Could be worse. It was reported in our local paper on Sat. that a women caused a head on accident because a spider landed in her lap and she looked down to brush it off of her. Luckily no one was seriously hurt (except the cars and spider).

Uninvited insects in my house get the death penalty.

Furry creatures or those cute little geckos are more privileged- they get the catch and release (or chase out the door!) treatment. As long as the dog doesn't find them first.

Well...I guess I'll join the ranks of the.....killers!!! Just had DH stomp one yesterday.(REALLY HUGE BLACK thing!! ) They have a huge yard and field to hang out in. If they enter the house they have written their own death sentence. My brother was bitten by a brown recluse when we were little. So I have no love for any spiders. Anyone that wants to save a spider may come do so if they can arrive at my house with in 30 seconds of my call. Same goes for any bees/wasps/ants that decide to enter this house.
Their friends/relatives should figure this out when they see the dead body leaving the house!!

Go ahead and call me inhumane, but if I see a spider, IF I can get the courage, that sucker is dead! If I can't (because it's too big and crawley and creepy) then my DH get the inhumane-spider-killer title!!!

I HATE HATE HATE spiders...(mostly anything with more than 4 legs.)

I know Im in the minority but Im a "catch and release" person as well. I cant stand spiders but I dont want to kill them just because. However roaches, mosquitoes and ants are fair game. No problems letting them have it. And here in Texas we have those HUGE tree roaches that try to creep in your house from outside

I guess i am too a spider killer...cant stand them...

funny story: i was taking a shower, washing my hair..looked up and theres a HUGE spider in teh shower....i screamed..got out of the shower, got a towel and went running to my brother..he laughed at me the entire time and still wont let me forget it

Good grief....why did I read this thread! I somehow believed that the only spiders in the US are not dangerous.

I'm the kind of person that "wants" to kill them but doesn't have the stomach. I swat them and they never die at first strike, they start flailing around and I'm creeped out even more.

I saw a BIG one in my washer the other day. I closed the door and walked away, hoping he would too.

Now that I know about brown recluse spiders, I feel compelled to get rid of all spiders! Ugh! My skin is crawling right now!

edited to say that I meant all spiders in my home! Not ALL spiders

my son.....bless him--- is not a spider guy either.....so his dear wife bought him a bug sucker.....long pipe that sucks it up and then it stays in cup.........60 bucks, but my son and dil love it

A spider caused an accident on a bridge in Jersey the other day...
Turns out he plopped into the lap of a woman who was driving southbound....swatting him away I guess she forgot she was driving and drove into the northbound land colliding head on with the driver going north!!!
Luckily, no human was seriously injured, however, the spider is presumed dead

So if it is inhumane to kill a spider (trust me, I kill any in my house) what about ants, wasps, bees and bugs like that? We have ants right now and I am squashing them without thought. I also kill bees and wasps if I can get up the nerve to get close enough. So should I be written up as someone who promotes cruelty? I am really just wondering because I read something yesterday about this guy who mentioned killing mice ( I do go for "humane" traps in this case) and how it is due to ones lifestyle that you get mice in your home. That it is not the fault of the inncocent mice that they smell food. Well my house is as clean as three kids allow, so why do I have ants?

Okay, now I've got the heebie - jeebies ! Anything with more than 2 legs that comes into my house also gets the death penalty. I usually get dh to take care of the dirty work. I've been known to wake the guy from a dead sleep to kill bugs. If he's not home I'll do it myself but like someone else said they never seem to die on the first try .

Seriously, though, spiders are history in my house. Flies are too (cat toys), although ladybugs live. We do try to release some spiders if they are catchable by my son (8). If HE refuses, then they die.

Ah...we're in northern MA and we saw a big Spider in our bathroom yesterday.

But he kills the ants, which are really gross, so we let him live...

As far as I'm concerned, as long as he doesn't bug us, and kills ants and flys...he's earning his keep

I try to be humane and get the creepy crawlies out of the house in one piece. But, if they are too ugly, and no one else is around to save them, I do commit bugicide. We've had these nasty cricket looking intruders this year. Most of these, I am sorry to say, die. Anybody know the Jiminy crickets I speak of?

They become dog toys in my house. All I usually find are the legs.
