Beware of Wal-Mart Alamo code at MCO!

We would be interested in knowing whether accepting the car with whatever it takes to get thecar now and writng a letterto the comany after geting home is still effective in getting any overcharge refunded..

In the future (for eavesdroppers to) wrie "under duress" or "under protest" next to every ocurrence of your signatur if applicable.

Can someone please fill me in about on-line checkin and the kiosk at MCO Alamo? Do I have to do both in order to by-pass the rental counter? What info do I need at the kiosk? If I use a coupon and a special code, can I use on-line check-in and the kiosk to bypass the counter? Sorry I am new to this stuff. TIA

You only have to do one not both. You can't use a coupon for online check-in but you can at the kiosk. You have to put in your rental info, driver's license number and I had to put in my credit card info for the on line check in for Alamo.
You can make reservations without using a credit card but the online check-in asked for one. My gang opted to not use a coupon just to be able to check-in online and get out to the garage quicker.
If you're part of National's Emerald Club you can reserve online, print off paperwork and just walk out and pick up your car and pass in paperwork as you exit because they already have your personal info from your Emerald Club account.

I made a reservation for Alamo for my friend who rented back in March and she had trouble with that same code. They told her it was an international code. She ended up paying $125 over the price quoted for a compact car. I was so angry because I knew that was a legitimate code from Walmart that anyone could use.
In April, I had 4 vans booked for my daughters softball team using the same code. Of the 4 renters, 3 had problems with the code and 1 breezed right through the counter. The other 3 fought it tooth and nail and they honored the price. Good Luck!!!

You don't do both. You do one or the other. However if you can't check in online (using a coupon, different than Wal-mart Contract ID) you can check in at the kiosk. If you are going to be using the kiosk, the day before go in to your reservation and use SameTime to pre-enter all of your information (they still don't ask for CC information in SameTime). When you check in at the kiosk you scan the barcode on your printed reservation and it goes through the steps of offering you all the extras, upgrades and fuel options. It then has you swipe your CC. I think when you return the car you can still change that CC to a different one if you want to pay for it with a different card.

An answer to the other posts. It appears here that the issues seem to happen when you deal with a person at the counter. Humans make mistakes, don't care, or just don't know. When making travel reservations, I try to deal with an actual agent as little as possible.

To the poster who was asked to product their Entertainment Book in HI. You really only should have had to produce the card. You can in fact go to the Entertainment web site and print the Entertainment rates and print the page that shows the coupon without logging in or even being a member. The same is true for Costco.

Alamo in PHX not only asked to see my COSTCO card but swiped it so they could capture my membership number. I always assume a company is going to ask for verification for any discount I claim.

Also, re: using the kiosk: I've read that sometimes when your reservation shows both a code and a coupon, the reservation won't be accepted at the kiosk and you must get in line at the counter, unfortunately. Anyone ever have that experience at MCO?

this happened to us last year-annoying waste of time is what it was- after going through the motions at kiosk,it rejected us,and we had to wait in line at the counter after all. we got our rate, but not after being 'offered' the higher grades of car, etc.

It depends on the contract ID or coupon code used. We have used the Entertainment code and coupon and used the kiosk without problems. Same with WalMart ID and Entertainment coupon.

I agree, I only pointed it out to indicate just because you have a physical coupon or code, it doesn't mean you are eligible for it.

Ok..so what is everyone planning to do? I was really only using it for the free additional driver(my husband), but what about the other walmart codes? Are they no good? I was actually going to use the kiosk, but I don't want to get there and have to spend 800 dollars. Maybe I'll use national...

I have ressie for pick up at the CCC on Sept 22. I plan to use the walmart code for which I have the printed page showing the code. I have never had a problem in all the time I have used it. THey have a kiosk at the CCC (which I used the last time) but you still go to the counter to pick up the keys. (weird, I know) Worst case scenario? They refuse the code, even with the print out, and I say.. thanks but no thanks.. take me back to my hotel.

I won't hassle with them and just use WDW transportation for the vacation. I rent a car more out of convenience because of my 78yo mother. I won't let it ruin my vaca.

I hope everyone who is able to use it before then, posts their results.

Thats what I did as I was getting a better rate, now because of this thread I go and read on the WalMart website, "In the United States, offer valid only at airport-serving locations." GREAT I am using the Disney Car Care Location.............:confused3
Does this mean National will not honor the code??

I've been watching this thread, and with all the others, I would print off the page, take it with me, and expect to get the rate as advertised (or I would become a very polite but very difficult customer). But in your case, I would probably make other arrangements (or find another code).

Thats what I am doing now, trying different codes and looking into the discount fine prints. Thanks to the OP whom brought this to our attention....

I don't think I'm going to chance it..my hope is that as my trip gets close the rates will come down and the code won't be as important. Is anyone going down in the next week or so and going to try it?

I also read on another blog that Alamo is cracking down on code usage at certain locations, one of them being MCO. I guess their pinching their pennys and want to make sure everyone entitled is truly entitled, but this is such a generic code. I though I read somewhere else that the Latin code is very similar to the walmart code and it was creating some confusion..somethin about the Latin code being 430170 and walmart is 430710 something like that...I'm not positive though..I'm going to see if I can find it..

I was concerned when I read this thread. I checked a few different codes and was able to get the same rate with my annual pass. For anyone who has an AP check the codes (found on disney's site logging in with your AP). I was able to get $78 w/tax for my upcoming five day trip.

I had also reserved using the Walmart code. After reading this thread I searched the other codes. I actually got a slightly better rate using my Borders Rewards membership. If you belong you may want to try by using Borders Rewards Perks.

Fyi - we flew into Orlando this morning. I used the wal-mart code with absolutely no problem. I did use the kiosk for check-in. Everything went as smooth as usual and no pressure to buy any extras.
