My fiancee and I went to Disney last spring and decided on going to the Cape May Cafe after hearing good reviews in our "unofficial guide to walt disney world". We were horribly disappointed. The whole theme of this restaurant is a clam bake buffet so I was very excited being a big seafood fan. The clams were horrific. There was a mixture of sand and broken shells in every bite I took. Other dining options consisted of the kids food bar (which was more than fine for children), a few ribs (what was left of them!), bread, and salad. The only amusing part of the dining experience was the fact you can color on your tables which my fiancee took as an oppurtunity to write "donald loves goofy....only legal in Massachusettes". haha. :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

We love Cape May Cafe - can't wait to dine there Thanksgiving Day!

I keep seeing some not good reviews of the clam bake dinner. We're going to be eating there on Sunday, 11/19 - our first TS meal at DW. We're also taking our family who live in Orlando there, so I'm hoping it is OK. We're all from Maryland - so we love our seafood. I tried to get into Boma but there's no room for a table of 9. Hope we'll be happy at Cape May cafe.

If you really love seafood try Flying Fish!

Being a Yacht & Beach regular, I have some experience with the Cape May Clambake. They seem to vary a lot depending on who's cooking. Sometimes the clams will be washed, sometimes not. Sometimes the potatoes will be nice and fluffy, sometimes they will be reduced to inedible paste in a food processor. But the one thing you can count on is that the clam chowder will make it all worthwhile.

I'll second that - we were very disappointed in Cape May, being from New Orleans, we know our seafood too!

We just ate at the Cape May Cafe Sunday for dinner. I do not like seafood, but my mom does. She was very impressed. We live on the Jersey Shore so she really knows her seafood too. Her clams were cleaned. I guess it really does depend on who is cooking :confused3

We have always had great food at Cape May. We decided to skip it next time though bc we enjoyed the food so much we felt sluggish at the parks after eating so well!

Flying Fish looks really good but it's a little too expensive for us. The 4 of us will be on the DDP but we're treating 5 family members to dinner that night. We figured we could contain costs by taking them to a buffet. We also need to eat at a resort - not in a park because they don't buy annual passes anymore.

Sorry about your disapointment. We have never had a bad meal there in the last 4 years of going. It may have been an "off" night? of some sort ?
We are a family of 7 that has dinner there each year, and find it to always be very good. Already looking forward to Jan for another fine meal .

As someone once said you cant please everyone !! :confused3

The Flying Fish is just across the lake on the boardwalk, not in the park and is FANTASTIC!

Another Cape May lover. We have been happy with every time and book it every visit. We are a seafood family, but we also enjoy the salads, soups and other nonseafood items.

The best thing about buffets is, if something is not to your liking, move on and try the next item. There are plenty of choices for everyone. I'm sorry you didn't have a good experience, but everyone has different tastes. I'm sure you will find a restaurnant more to your liking. :teeth:

I don't know if I can give a fair review since I am from Cape May, but we do go there every trip and always enjoy the steamed clams. Also the desserts are really good. We will be going back in Sept and have made resv. for this on our 2nd night. :sunny:

Sorry to hear about your experience. Everytime we have gone the clams have been excellent, well washed and no sand at all. We are from Boston and love seafood and really enjoy Cape May, we usually stay at the yacht or beach club and go to Cape May often :Pinkbounc

Sorry to hear you had a bad experience. I've eaten there a few times and haven't had a bad meal, but I can see how it could happen...

DD9 and I had dinner at Cape May on Saturday evenng, and I have to say the clams were the best ever. DD and I went through two really big bowls full. We had eaten there once before and were happy with that meal as well. I will not eat sandy clams.... and we have yet to experience them at Cape May. I enjoy the ribs as well. Never reallly made it to any other part of the buffet. I know I don't get my monies worth out of it there.... but DD does love it so! She requested that I make an ADR for this past weekend. We will also be dining there on NYE.

Of course the oreo bon bons were delish!

Oh yes - the Oreo-mintini was a hit as well. (We has some time to kill before our ADR due to a bad storm - we couldn't wander around outside, so we visited "Martha's Vineyard" - a very nice little "pub"!

Here's DD "exclaiming" how am I going to eat all that? She did!
