Just a heads up to all with a Paypal account. We all know (hopefully) by now not to click on any links from Ebay or Paypal requesting us to up-date our account info. Well, I just received a new type of email from someone pretending to be Paypal. It was a (fraudulant, but official appearing) Paypal receipt stating payment had been made from my account for $1,500.00 for an adult only auction. My heart stopped. I quickly went into a new winndow and checked out my Paypal account activity and balance, and of course it wasn't there. But, I think whoever sent it was hoping I'd get so nervous I'd click on their very professional looking paypal receipt under "my account" to check it out -thus they would get all my info. Another red flag for me was that it had been sent to me under an old email address I used long before I ever had Paypal (was still with Verizon, tho, so was forwarded to me). It was also in my spam folder -so even the computer detected it wasn't real!!

Have to always be alert and vigilant to stay one step ahead of these guys! :sad2:

I got this too! Bummer, we have to be SO careful. At least they didn't get our Disney money :)

I got one like that from PayPal, and also got another one stating that they were letting me know that someone had added another user name to my account, and to click on the link if this was not so.

Of course I didn't, but I could see how someone will fall for this.

Have you guys ever gotten the car sweepstakes spoof ebay having ebay giving away a car? I almost fell for that one. I could use a new car!
LOL

No - guess I've been lucky not to get that one, too!

I just noticed in your signature that you are booked for the Freedom of the Seas next year. We are too - in July! If you go to the cruisecritic board, you will find many threads for roll call for the different sailings. I've already met several people who will be with us on our sailing. The ship should be just beautiful - I am so anxious for them to release more photos and info!

I got one of those a while back too. It said something like payment for 350.00. My heart almost stopped too. Thankfully there was no such payment sent.

I also had one from ebay saying that I had been voted one of the top sellers and something about power sellers and to click on the link to update my junk. Funny I haven't sold anything in ages.

These emails get so old... I get paypal ones every now and then.. I never click on them.. I got one a few days ago saying it was from ebay and that they cancelled my auction that I bid on , etc.. and had a link for me to click.. I havent bid on ebay in months!! I didnt click any of the links but in a different window went into my acct and there didnt show anything about any bids, etc.. Just wanted to give a heads up in case someone gets this email too.

I got this too. I knew it was fake b/c I don't have paypal but I was curious to compare this email to the real paypal page. The "buttons" on the email that I received did not work, but the pages looked exactly alike.

Same old moral of the story. Do not click the blue words in email messages. Do not cut or paste those blue words.

Go to Paypal directly on your own to see if any unusual activity has taken place.

The point I was attempting to make was that because the old type of ebay/paypal scam has been around for awhile, and most people have become wise to it, they (whoever these creeps may be) are trying newer methods. (rather than sending the old email messages with the blue links to click on).

The email that came to me was a "paypal" statement of the supposed transaction, and the side column had all the various links to click on, including "my account" link. I don't know if any of the links worked (I'm sure the my account one would have, as this was their reason for sending it in the first place). It was made to appear official, and I think they were trying to catch someone off-guard to click on the site, and enter their info. I'm the only one in our house with the Paypal account, but in other households one member might see that email and think "whoa - who the heck ordered that!" :earseek: and click on the link to check it out, without thinking.

Just a reminder to always open a new window and go into the Paypal or Ebay site on your own to check your account status, irregardless of what is sent to you or how shocked/upset you may be initially reading it.
