Beverages and Drinks on-board...what's included? What's not included?

And not in an insulated bag/cooler ! I gave DCL a piece of my mind on that one.....
we had a small rolling insulated disney cooler (purchased at the Disney Store many years ago). We've brought it on 2 previous cruises and it was fine. This was our 5th cruise and they wanted to confiscate it. We had to remove our bottled water and soda and they gave us a very thin clear plastic bag to carry it on the ship with. The bag proceeded to break 5 min after the security people on the ship gave it to us......soda and water rolling all over the floor in all directions. We had to get out of line and take the cooler back to our car or risk having it taken away. Lost our place in the security line (had been there 10 min). Came back from garage and had to wait at the end of a much longer line---more like 20-25 min. Dh and I were not happy. We let DCL know how we felt. Funny thing is....DCL sells insulated coolers on the ship and on CC.

I thought I read somewhere that you can't bring corkscrews on board. Is this true? And if so, can you get one on board to open up your wine in your stateroom?

You can bring a corkscrew onboard but you can also get one from your room steward. You can also order wine glasses to be delivered from room service so you will have glasses in your room. Most just order them at the start of their trip and wash them out throughout their stay so they can reuse them.

Another newbie here. Just curious on the cooler issue -- so no soft or hard sided coolers? I was thinking of bringing a personal size pack-it along to help keep drinks cool for our Nassau and CC day.

No hard or soft coolers. My guess would be that if your lunch bag sized pack it is in your suitcase (empty of course) and not being used as a carry on you will be fine.

Yes, the stated policy has always been no coolers (you can put your beverages in a rolling suitcase) While the policy makes an exception for medications, there was one post where a guest said they were not allowed to bring their meds in their soft sided cooler!

And it makes no sense at all that they prohibit something and then sell it in the gift shops. This happens with coolers, toy weapons, etc.

They let us bring this exact same cooler on board in Nov 2002 and Nov 2004. It's a Disney cooler in fact. We didn't bring it in 2007 or 2011. But there were no questions asked when we brought it on our first two cruises. And we found issue with the woman CM who checked our ID's just prior to entering the line for security (just before you walk across that covered bridge area). She saw it in plain sight and never said a word. Let us get in line and wait for 10-15---no where did we see signs PRIOR to getting in line for security not to have one. And we read the booklet and can't find any policy on soft sided coolers--or other. There is an alcohol policy in the booklet. We also traveled with our TA who also was very surprised they wanted to confiscate it. So where can I find this policy---because I plan on following up further with DCL about it. At the very least, if it is written policy, they need to display it and make it known much better. I'd say 50 confiscated coolers (and we boarded at noon so there were many more to come after us), shows their policy is NOT clearly stated.

Thank you ! Because it's a bit misleading considering the lack of disclosure on this subject. There had to be 40-50 coolers confiscated by security just prior to boarding the ship. Luckily we drove and could just run back to our car (albeit wasting 30 min). We were not happy.

A couple things I learned for our last cruises that might help newbies

1.) Shirley Temples in the MDRs are free.
2.) Seltzer water (I mix it with cranberry juice) in the MDRs are free.
3.) Smoothies are free during brekfast only (unless part of a kid's club activity). They aren't clearly listed on the menu. We thought it was a fruit and yogurt plate our first cruise and were nicely surprised. The strawberry one is called the Tugboat. On the Magic they are at Goofy's Galley in the morning.

$12 for one seemed a bit much, but not so bad for a pair. And you do get to keep the DCL glass.

Just an FYI - you can get any of these drinks not in the souvenir cup for a whole bunch less (like half) money.

Some info for ya, as we were just on the Dream last week. Free drinks from the stations poolside... Coke products, Pink Lemonade, Iced Tea. This mix is also available for free while on Castaway Cay at Cookies. Most non-alcoholic beverages are also free in the dining room.

As far as alcohol goes... poolside, there is beer and mixed drinks which get charged to your KTTW card/room. Didn't do a whole lot of this, but one afternoon the wife and I got a drink late in the afternoon once they had gone to 2 for the price of 1. $12 for one seemed a bit much, but not so bad for a pair. And you do get to keep the DCL glass. You could also get the poolside mix of alcohol and beer while eating at the Cabanas buffet.

Some of our party did share the cost of a 'wine package' that they bought into the first meal and stretched out over our other meals. Don't know what that set them back. There were also mixed drinks featured (at cost) in each MDR menu for dinner. HTH.

Thanks for the 2 for 1 tip. I was considering getting one to get the cup, but now dh can each get one.

I hear a lot about people bringing water on board. Is the water not drinkable? Or is because some people only drink it from a bottle?

I'm a big water snob & the Magic's water tastes great! The reason I would recommend bringing a case of water is because it's not easily accessible otherwise. (Of course, you can run up to the drink stations, but I notoriously forgot to load up before heading back to our room for bed. I LOVE a big glass of water before bedtime.) If you are like me & love to drink water, just bring some bottles to keep in your refrigerator!

Actually, it's very accessible. Turn on any tap and you are getting the exact same water that comes out of the water dispenser at the drink station or poured in your glass at dinner.

I guess that is pretty accessible! I just couldn't stand drinking out of a bathroom faucet. I guess that's where my "water snobbiness" shows!

Are straws available for the sodas?

What about something like Perrier or San Pelligrino at dinner? My DH also likes "bubbly" water, and will drink the seltzer water if they have it, but would prefer the other, even if he had to pay for it.

Nope. You are free to carry on as much as you can carry in your carry on(s). I wouldn't recommend putting any in a minor's bag. They would technically be committing a crime of underage possession.
