Definitely "better" trips than more often "budget" ones. When I was a kid we went to WDW every three years for a week and we stayed at the Polynesian and did 2-3 TS meals a day. We went camping and had cheap vacations in between Disney, but there was nothing that can compare to the anticipation of knowing Disney was coming up and what a luxurious vacation it was going to be. We never went out to eat as a kid (not even fast food) so the memories from those trips are so special to me and my brother! We felt so spoiled. I had never stayed some place as nice as the Polynesian and I remember being so blown away by the underwater music in the pool.
Now that I'm older (31) and can afford to go as often as my husband and I would like, I still would rather wait and build up the anticipation and have a "once in a lifetime" type of trip every 2-3 years.

Plus long distance. So short vacation for us in a place with king bed (necessity). Our luxury is choosing to do so on-site where we can get a king bed with sufficient conditions for a large family (read: 2 bedroom). Much nicer that AKL had 3 bathrooms for 2 bedrooms, more like real life
. I hate camping, and anything less feels like camping. The last thing I want to do is to need a vacation after I get home from vacation.
